Marvel Films MCU Phase IV!

I have no great excitement for any of the future announced Marvel movies. There a couple I am interested in seeing....but the thrill is gone for me. While I liked INFINITY WAR and ENDGAME.....I saw no reason to kill off characters because some actor's contracts were up. I have watched multiple actors play James Bond, Tarzan, Superman, Batman, etc......I could have watched a new actor play Iron Man or Captain America. ENDGAME was an ending. My set of MCU films from IRON MAN to ENDGAME make a grand set and series that I will continue to re-watch when ever I can. Yes, I know that SPIDER-MAN FAR FROM HOME came after ENDGAME....but it seems (to me) to be the start of the new stuff and doesn't fit in with the other movies. I will watch future MCU films as they are released....but I will not be waiting on the edge of my seat for them like I did all the others.

I feel the exact same way. I have no interest in Black Widow, Shang Chi and The Eternals maybe my opinion will change once I see trailers of the later. However I am interested in Dr Strange 2 and BP 2, the hype for future MCU projects won’t happen until the X-Men or F4 gets announced.

Personally, I found myself way more excited for the Disney Plus shows like Wandavision, Moon Knight and She-Hulk, and Ms. Marvel than I am of any of the phase 4 movies announced except maybe Multiverse Of Madness and Eternals(which I both think are gonna be standouts).

I'm really looking forward to She Hulk.

I was annoyed back in April, that we didn’t got any official news about one of those 15 projects.
Now I‘m just frustrated...

edit: 7/25/20: and so ends that 5th month without any good news from Marvel Studios...

My predictions:
2021: Black Widow, Eternals, Shang-Chi
2022: Spider-Man, Thor, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel
2023: Black Panther, Guardians, Blade, Ant-Man

This is me assuming that they still plan to commit with 4 films per year at some point.

Spider-Man is definitely going to be delayed, even if they managed to film something this year. Everything in the Entertainment industry is being slowed down by Covid. Its not going to disappear in the next 6 months and its impact in the movies, would be felt for the next 2 to 3 years and thats me assuming, there's already accessible vaccine and cinemas around the world are now open by mid 2021.

Black Panther II is definitely going to be delayed. I have no idea what they are going to do with Black Panther unless Marvel Studios knew about Chadwick's condition and they already talked about the possibilities when they announced that 2022 date.

Marvel knew. He's been noticeably sick for some time

I agree. This is probably the main reason why they dated Black Panther so far out to begin with. Maybe not a lot of people at Marvel knew but I guarantee at the very least Feige and Coogler knew. If Chadwick was getting any sort of treatment over the last 4 years, Marvel probably had to factor the treatments in while coordinating the productions and filming.

EDIT- Actually, given the timeline of things, I believe both IW and EG were filmed back to back in 2017 right? If that's the case, it's very much possible they didn't know during filming of those movies, but possibly found out sometime after.

Wishful thinking but I hope we get the Mutants, the Fantastic Four and Avengers in 2024.

Marvel isnt going to release 3 heavy heights teams on the same year. not one single studio would do that.

The best option is to spread them out on different years, so each one gets all the attention they deserve

I could see the FF being released the same year as an Avengers movie or something, but X-Men is likely to be the marquee film the year it comes out.

So replace the Mutants with Eternals 2 then? I wouldn't consider the Fantastic Four a "heavy heights team" in the movies at least not yet. A Mutants reboot, despite being in the mcu, is still going to be the next Mutants film after the critical failures the New Mutants and Dark PhoeniX. So both of them are not yet certified hits, they still have to be good/marketed well unlike an Avengers 5 that would gross big regardless of the quality.

Unless
- they launch a new ip for 2024 that isn't Fantastic Four or the Mutants
- they fasttrack a Shang Chi sequel in 2024
- there's still no Avengers 5
- one of the 2quels/3quels is released in 2024 (Guardians 3 could be strong candidate)

I don't see why we should wait until 2025 just to avoid having three team films. But then again, like I said, its only a wishful thinking of mine.

Ant-Man 3 will replace Black Panther 2 in 2022. Black Panther 2 will be delayed for at least a year, if it happen at all.

I think Guardians 3 being a more likely replacement. Assuming no 2021/early 2022 have to be delayed. In which case, maybe Dr. Strange 2 goes here.

I will say getting back into the MCU is going to be interesting. Endgame really did feel like...the end. And now we've gone quite a while with the only noteworthy MCU movie being that one Spider-Man movie. Going to just feel weird trying to get back into it with so much changing up and only having a few characters that I'm still invested in there.

Still fairly interested in the Doctor Strange movie. Definitely keeping hype for the Guardians 3 movie which feels so far off. Another Ant-Man movie would be fun and light. And...I guess that's about it for now. Not sure how good Thor's next movie will be so it's more 'I'll wait for a trailer to get me' and I'm barely aware of when any other movies are going to be coming and what they'll focus on. Mostly not going to focus on Black Panther 2 since...there's just a lot of uncertainty with what they'll even do now.

Really want to be hyped. But...I'm just not there right now. Hopefully once this new 'era' gets going it can start building up excitement again like they did for the first one.

I think sadly Marvel not having anything between FFH and Black Widow was a mistake in hindsight. Not that any of this is Marvel's fault, but when Endgamr came and went, some even then said it felt like an ending and the MCU hype just wasn't as strong. Now, new content can cure that. Sadly though, Marvel now has been hit with 2 awful instances that were beyond their control. First, COVID delays Black Widow and kills their filming schedule, thus delaying the entire pipeline. Then, one of the center pieces of the MCU moving forward in Black Panther sees tragedy, thus damaging people's hype for the sequel.

I don’t blame Marvel for this at all. Both these are beyond their control, but I don’t think the MCU has experienced this type of adversity possibly ever. They will be fine, I am sure. The MCU is a machine. But, it does sting.

I doubt Spider-Man would be released next year. Tom Holland is currently filming Uncharted and who knows how long that will take during a pandemic. so Thor/Dr. Strange will be delayed again but still in 2022. So one of those will take bp2's date.

Holland is supposed to go straight into filming Spider-Man after finishing Uncharted. They are aiming for late September/early October.

Yeah but I think the safety precautions is adding more time. I just imagine how crew members/studios are adding more time than usual just to make sure everybody is safe. Also COVID-19 has also slowed down post prod of so many Tv shows, videogames and movies. I don't think they will have the movie ready just in time for Christmas of next year.

Who would have guessed that Shang Chi would be released first before Eternals?

Now I'm just waiting for Sony to delay the 3quel to neXt year.

Its great that they produce new movies and shows...but they also need to release it, because they can‘t release the whole phase 4 within a year...
Also the circumstance of most Disney plus are dependent when the movies are released.
I really hope Loki could be released no matter if BW or Eternals are out.
Falcon and Hawkeye probably won‘t

Well Falcon and the Winter Soldier haven't finished filming so as Loki. They aren't just delayed because Black Widow isn't hitting the theaters yet. Also they already made adjustments and looks like WandaVision is going to be released before Black Widow and Eternals.

And I'm sure they want their movies that they make to be released... thats obvious. But they aren't going to get their money back when theaters are still closed in a lot of countries or places in America like ca and Ny.

And you don't need to worry about the entire phase 4 being released in the same year. Thats not going to happen. Thor Love and Thunder is already delayed to 2021 so as Doctor Strange. The other D+ shows haven't shot a single episode.

I guess Loki could be quite standalone so that’s one thing in favour of releasing earlier and independently (if true).

Lets hope Loki won‘t be delayed - it was the show that I was most excited about from the beginning (of course before Moon Knight was announced)
Btw Loki was the first of all Disney plus projects (besides Mandalorian) that was announced

The 3 shows you mention all have some extra special edge for me and I can’t wait for them. Although I’m really looking forward to the film slate too.

First announced should be first released, it’s only fair on the despicable traitor. :cwink:

Upon reading the news regarding DoctorStrange, Spider-Man 3 and the Thor 4 cast being in Australia already for filming. I don't feel hyped because we are still in the coronavirus pandemic mess. I wanted Bw to move in Feb 2021 but damn, May 7 feels such a long time and the wait for Eternals is eXtended for like ten months. Other big 2021 movies got delayed to 2022, its hard to get eXcited right now.
