Marvel Films MCU X-Men - Part 4

If they really get Denzel Washington on the X-Men, let alone the MCU then Disney truly can't be stopped.

it’s going to drive me nuts though with people who still think magneto is a Malcolm X symbol. Great actor though so of course I would easily get over it

I'm setting myself up for disappointment, because as soon as I heard their upcoming secret game is an ensemble one I forgot about the MCU. That's what I'm excited about.

There is a chance it's a new X-Men game. But it also could be FF, Young Avengers, Defenders, etc...

I think it is wise to keep expectations low. That way if there’s a nice surprise you’ll be chuffed! My expectations are at best one or two pics from the wolverine game, lots on midnight suns. Maybe if we’re really good one reveal. And probably something awful like a fortnite skin or a mobile game where you have to watch adds constantly

Have they really announced individual Fortnite skins at events like these? They have like four dozen marvel skins in Fortnite, if not more. It's not really news anymore is it?

That pairing is going to capture a lot of people’s imaginations.
Honestly? To have this franchise anchored by two of the biggest Black actors in Hollywood rn, would be simply amazing. The franchise's themes would evolve through them.

If you're trying to recapture the gravitas between Stewart and McKellen, then this is how you do it.

s*** I just looked it up, Can't believe Denzel is almost 70

This is part of why I don't see it happening. Just doesn't seem like Marvel would anchor the franchise with two actors who are that old. That's just a feeling though and I'm cool with being wrong here, but I just expect Marvel to go younger. Late-30s to mid-50s.

I mean, keep in mind they're also still ramping up a lot of upcoming projects with Sam Jackson. He's up there in the 70s too.

But I'm really tempering my expectations with Denzel. That rumor is up there with Spielberg directing Fantastic Four lol.

Yeah, there is that too. Although I feel like Sam Jackson is the exception rather than the rule. The guy is in everything and has never shown signs of slowing down.

Late 50s, early 60s is the ideal, IMO. That's the same age Stewart and Ian Mckellen had, and they played the characters for 20 years.

60s is not that old.

Stewart and McKellen were like 60 when they started right? And that's the same age Sam Jackson was for Iron Man 1. I'd say around that age would be good. It's that age of "starting to look like an older person, but not yet so old that you have to worry much about them not being around and doing work in a few years". Esposito is 64, which is a bit older but should be fine. Denzel might be a bit on the old side already. Though I guess it also depends on what their plans are for the franchise. We've just had like 20 years with a lot of focus on Charles and Erik, so I could see Marvel Studios setting them up to either be less involved per movie, or be as involved a few movies and leaving the option open to retire the characters after a while.

Notwithstanding how awesome it might be to have Denzel and Esposito, ideally I'd want Professor X and Magneto early to mid 50s at the most.

I feel like Denzel is probably Immortus.

I've read some rumbles online about potentially swapping expectations and casting Esposito as Magneto and Denzel as Xavier, which I find interesting...

I won't lie, I'm much more familiar with Denzel's work than I am with Giancarlo's. However, I have always found Denzel to have a paternal quality to him, when he's not busting heads as a total bad*** of course :oldrazz:

I can see him as Charles. What do you folks think?

If I'm not excited about these rumors, it is due to these characters being overused in the fox films

Actually that would seem the more predictable route IMO with Esposito known so well for his intellectual villain roles. Not that I would have a problem that way round either - if the quotes from him were correct it seems he is properly up for the role of Xavier and would consider hanging around a while. Not so sure about Denzel wanting to commit long term in which case Magneto could be the better role.

I could see Denzel as Xavier as Well.

So this is why Magneto is the leader? Because Xavier was killed by Wanda?

I still hate this.
Apologies if someone already responded to this (I didn't see one). But I believe the reason Magneto is the leader in X-Men 97 is because Xavier left Earth at the end of the original cartoon.

I think other X-Men Villains like Apocalypse or Sinister would play a more important role in the MCU than Magneto

I feel gross harping on this point, but casting a 70-year-old as Magneto (and that's to start a franchise) just does not vibe with me at all.

I think I'm with you on this. Some younger folks who can stick around for 3-4 movies at least.

Maybe we could work with that though? Do a Morrison era New X-men Magneto and then build to other as yet unadapted villains?

Choosing a Magneto that only appears in 2 x-men movies (from 6) would be pretty fine by me.

Ya know, we all assume Magneto will be a big bad again
But he's been an X-man for over a decade now in the comics, and that's not counting his time on the team in the 80's
And especially since House of X, him and Xavier have been thick as thieves

Wondering if Marvel will go that route, rather than continuing the strained MLK/Malcom X metaphor, and have Magneto on the team but just holding a slightly different perspective from most of his teammates. Obviously he'd have to start as a villain, but then I could see him pulling a Nebula and quickly coming on board.

Idk, the MCU loves "subverting expectations" so I dunno if we should all expect him to be a villain for long

And the bonus for me would be that I love his relationships with some of the X-Men, Especially Cyclops (Mags respects the f* outta him) Storm (He recognizes her power and her quality as a leader) and Wolverine (They're not all that different, doing what needs to be done to protect Mutants). Would be fun to see him as an elder statesman on the team and not either the antagonist like McKellan, or the "will he or won't he" of Fassbender
