Marvel Films MCU X-Men - Part 4

This new series called Children of the Atom seems promising. It's written by Vita Ayala and its pitch is that it follows X-men fans turned superheroes. Ayala is non-binary and Afro-Latinx, for the record.

I'd also recommend Ayala's work on Prisoner X. It's a five part mini-series attached to an unruly and uneven mega-event, but it shows off a really well written Bishop.

Leah Williams' X-Factor also promises queer representation including Northstar, Prodigy, and Rachel (let her come out dammit). Artist David Baldeon designed these fashionable new outfits.

Both series would have been out by now if not for the Covid-19 shut-down.

I love that Northstar design.

I've been very vocal about how I feel about diversityin the MCU X-Men.

If we want a truly diverse cast, for 2020s standard, that actually represent real life minorities that reflects what the X-Men stands for, while having the biggest fan favorites and household names upfront, then option three is the most realistically one. And one I'm not against it at all.

But the best option would probably be number 2. The X-Men absolutely needs to be modernized and refreshed at its core. We need more great diverse characters upfront, leading great storylines.

If this change is going to start in the comics or not, it's a change that needs to happen. And the movies should reflect the reality we live in from the get go.
Agreed, and I prefer it starts in the comics and then works it way through to other media. They need to fully commit and get top guys helping with the introduction and settling in period, not throw someone in briefly and then abandon them like they did with Neal Shaara (Thunderbird) who could have represented the Indian subcontinent for eg.

Right. I'd be fine with them using a newly introduced character or changing an established one, either option is fine with me.

It's kinda crazy how much my stance on this has changed over the past 3 years. I started wanting just a straight adaptation of the source material but I came to feel within myself that's selfish of me because I realize now that X-Men can represent so much more to so many different groups of people than it was confined to in the source material.

I am interested in seeing the MCU approach the X-Men from the standpoint of: "What if the X-Men were created today?"

I know I'm judging a book by its cover (literally), but I see clear references to other characters like Gambit, Scott and Kurt. While I surely don't mind legacy characters, having a full group of them it's a little odd to me.

But I surely support the introduction of more minority characters.

I was going to reply saying we absolutely need indian representation and also latin, and also more lgbt, and native americans, and black.... and I realize I was going to list basically all oppressed under represented groups. The X-Men needs to be modernized ASAP.

Exactly. This is super exciting to me.

It's legit perfect.

It's essentially the Young Avengers pitch from the 2000s and those characters are pretty successful.

children of the Atom looks terrible. 5 legacy characters/carbon copies of eXisting characters is the last thing comics need.

we already have plenty of this
Wolverine: X-23, Daken, Jimmy Hudson, Old man Logan
Storm: Bloodstorm
Cable: Young Cable
The time displaced original five that co-eXisted with the present original five
Jean Grey: Prestige, Hope Summers
Psylocke: Kwannon
Magneto: Joseph
Mr. Sinister: Ms. Sinister
Apocalypse: Genesis

But I saw this coming, I predicted there would be a carbon copy/legacy character of Gambit/Cyclops when I was complaining about Marvel's habit of introducing characters that don't look really original and just taking the mantle of eXisting characters.

seems like Ryan and co. are having a hard time getting the greenlight, doesnt it?
well..... have a seat, Ryan, and play with the new rules from now on. This is not Fox, so you cant control the business anymore (director included)

I'm SO hyped for X-Factor, the delayed wait has been the hardest out of all the delays. Can't say I'm a fan of Children of the Atom, though. They have so many diverse young mutants that no one is doing anything with. Why create a bunch of new copies of the old guard? At least Prodigy and Eye-Boy are getting work in X-Factor.

You say that as if it's a good thing...

Yeah, if they end up as charismatic and important as Laura, Miles or Kamala, I'm fine with that.

I think I didn't express myself well when I used the word "odd". There's a number of Marvel legacy characters who can stand on their own and are successful enough to prove this path can work. I'd just rather if they were completely new and different.

But bring them.

well, taking into account what he alowed to many characters on Deadpool 2, yeah, its a good thing.
I'd prefer we don't get the Disney Brand way of doing things X-Men in general.

I wonder what is happening between Reynolds and Feige behind the scenes. It sounds like things aren't set in stone yet, even after he met with Marvel Studios last year

didn't the director of Deadpool 1 quit because of Ryan Reynolds?

as for Rob. It was pretty obvious both Deadpool 3 and X-Force are over once Disney got foX. he's just stating the obvious. Disney isn't going to let 2 ongoing Marvel Movie Verses ignore each other under their wing.

Look the whole world is basically in a holding pattern right now.

Marvel already announced a Blade movie. Do you guys think a Blade movie would work as well with a PG-13? I'm not saying it can't be done...but you know?

It wouldn't be good for Ryan Reynolds to break rank right now and trash his potential business partners. He's got to be the ones to negotiate with them.

Spent the day watching several TAS episodes and I think I would definitely like to see Polaris on the team. It’s important to have Cyclops their from the beginning. I’d do a mix of the 05 with giant size members: Cyclops, pre fur Beast, Polars, Sunfire, Angel. Over the course of the films were get other members on the team and the true X-Men are formed.

Mystique would lead the Brotherhood: Avalanche, Blob, Mastermind (replaces Destiny), Pyro

Magneto would lead his Acolytes: Colossus, Psylocke, Gambit, Havoc. Colossus, Gambit, Psylocke will see the error of their ways and join the X-Men.

next time we see them the team would be Cyclops, Jean, Rogue,Storm, Wolverine, Gambit, Beast, Colossus, Psylocke

This is maybe the best way. The "First Class" of the MCU doesn't have to be the O5 after all:
ultimate-xmen-critique.jpg

If Marvel truly are going to do a slow build to the first X-Men film then I don't think we can afford to "build" to a movie with the O5 introducing key members like Storm, Rogue, Kitty etc in other films. The appeal would be seeing the characters already introduced to us, come together like the Avengers did.

Unless of course, we get an O5 Disney+ but the X-Men TV rights are apparently tied up with HBO for the foreseeable future..

I agree... I would also like if other key members of the team make appearances in future films, not really opposing the X-Men but teaming up with them of the plot calls for it ala Nightcrawler in X2. I definitely want to see Bishop (setting up Apocalypse), Psylocke, etc I’m the foreseeable future.

Before Liefeld said anything I had been wondering about Deadpool too. Marvel studios has a ton on their plate right now so it wouldn't surprise me if Deadpool is the least of their worries. Is 2023 a realistic release date for Deapool 3? That's quite a bit of time from the 2nd film.

That would be dope. The rotating roster is one of the X-Men's greatest strengths.

Apocalypse could be the "Thanos" of the X-Men franchise. Like TAS, his endgame goal could be an all-out war between humans and mutants. Maybe as the franchise goes on, we realize that Sinister's endgame goal was to stop Apocalypse. He tried to do this by harnessing the genetic potential of Scott & Jean's combined to create Nate Grey aka X-Man.

I also really want to see Darwin in the MCU

According to the scoopers, 2023 is already set and Deadpool 3 isn't on the schedule... This raises a lot of questions. Maybe Feige wants X-Men out first?
