Men In Black: International

I always wonder how tough it must be for stars like Hemsworth to keep an optimistic attitude when the movie crashes and bombs like this? I know the salary makes it worth it, but still has to hurt the ego. And he's a had a few like these, and even said in an interview that he needs to pick better movies.

He could make better choices sometimes, but the movies don't really fail because of him, they're just not good movies.

Yes but then you question your choices in scripts that you aren't able to find one that can connect with audiences.

So the franchise is dead, right?

Not necessarily. I thought it was dead after MIB3, and yet they still brought it up. Hollywood studios will always try to revive and keep bringing back once successful brands in the name of hopefully reviving them.

I mean look at Ghostbusters. They are rebooting it yet again.

Ghostbusters isn't technically getting rebooted, this next one is a direct continuation of Ghostbusters 2 but 25-30 years later ignoring the 2016 version altogether based on what I've read. I'm thinking it will end up being more like the latest Halloween which was more of a sequel than a reboot.

In my opinion, Hemsworth never should have taken MiB:I or Ghostbusters, because for me they both had/have very low chances of success as being welcomed with open arms by the established fanbase of both franchises. I don't think anyone wanted a rebooted Ghostbusters with no connection to the original(s) & it's the same here, I don't think there was a huge outcry for a MiB film that didn't feature Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones or even Josh Brolin & those established characters.

Honestly, I think that crazy MiB/Ghostbusters crossover idea now has more of a chance of happening than it did before, because they don’t have much else to lose with either brand, lol.

So, is this new Ghostbusters the version they was going to make with Channing Tat-Yum and Chris Fatt?:funny:

Reboot is a broad term. It's technically still a reboot.

I've no idea. About 8-10 years ago I'd read somewhere that the general premise for a Ghostbusters 3 would be the original Ghostbusters grooming the next generation, one of which would be Dana Barrett's son from Ghostbusters 2, Oscar.

I never read anything about a cast of the newer lineup, but at least on paper I thought the general concept sounded good as it would satisfy the likes of myself as the original cast would return, but also would bleed in a dozen new characters.

I believe it was Harold Ramis becoming ill & eventually passing away was the cause of that idea being shelved, which then eventually became the 2016 film.

We'll agree to disagree then, I've had this sort of discussion at length in the DCEU threads regarding that situation moving forward & what would constitute a reboot. As far as I'm concerned if there are a dozen or so returning cast members, particularly leads, it's not a reboot, you might get away with a couple of supporting cast members reprising roles.

So this is the second film in a row this year that got screwed over because some producer wanted it THEIR way instead of letting the damn director do his/her thing. Between this and Hellboy, why the hell does this keep happing? What did these producers want and what were Neil Marshall and F. Garry Grey doing that pissed them off like that?

Casino Royale featured Judi Dench returning as M. Was it a reboot or a continuation of Die Another Day?

Well hopefully this friday fares better with Toy Story ad Child's Play both of which I pray are decent.

Seems like the movie did indeed open to 30M since BOM corrected their results.
30M OW on underwhelming trailers, really bad reviews, horrible RT score... It just goes to show that there was indeed interest in the MIB franchise, the cast... had it been marketed properly, had a good/great reception and it would have been naturally a franchise restarter.

Well Toy Story sounds like it's much better than decent. I won't be holding my breath for Child's Play.

Once again reboot is a broad term. MiB International was clearly both a reboot and also a sequel to the past three films.

Box office numbers has been updated and upgraded.
It officially opens at $30 million

"The studio was also initially high on the screenplay by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. “The script was good,” says one insider. “You don’t attract Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson if the script isn’t good.” It’s a sentiment echoed by several insiders familiar with the development of International who spoke to THR on condition of anonymity.'

I had to laugh at that part.
