Michael Bay bringing Ouija to the big screen

Something tells me that it will try to be a ghost story franchise ala Final Destination movies.

cool...i've never seen a Ouija board explode super stylishly before :hehe:

A group of teens will accidentally summon an evil ghost, who will use a machine gun and drive a sports car in his quest to kill them all to become human again.

So they're remaking The Wraith?

Morel, White, Stewart Up For "Ouija"

Story details of the supernatural action-adventure movie are being keep under wraps though certain rules of the game such as never use it alone, never use it in a graveyard, etc. will be incorporated.
Universal plans to get the film into production next summer for a release Thanksgiving 2012, making it the second film based on a Hasbro property after Peter Berg's tentpole feature "Battleship" opening May 2012.

Pierre Morel Swaps "Dune" For "Ouija"

By Garth Franklin

"Taken" and "From Paris with Love" director Pierre Morel made headlines in the blogosphere earlier this week when he bailed on the long-gestating new adaptation of Frank Herbert‘s sci-fi literary classic “Dune". Now it seems he's found a replacement adaptation to focus on - a board game.
According to Heat Vision, Morel is said to be extremely close to being locked in as director on "Ouija", the film adaptation of the Hasbro board game where groups of people try to contact spirits that is aiming for a November 2012 release.
Morel has apparently beat out the likes of John Moore ("Max Payne"), Scott Stewart ("Legion") and Sylvain White ("The Losers") for the gig, though he's also said to be in tales for the Sam Raimi-produced alien invasion feature "EDF" for Warner Bros. Pictures. It's unclear presently which project will move forward first.
As for "Dune", the troubled production is unlikely to get underway before Spring which is when Paramount has to put the film into turnaround if it hasn't begun filming the project.

I can imagine Dune turning into a difficult project for any director, but you have to wonder who f***ed up things must be when you'd rather do a movie based on the Ouija Board instead.

Ouija Won't Be Scary

Looks like Ouija won't be as scary as was originally thought.

Based on the popular spooky ol' slice of cardboard that supposedly lets you communicate with the supernatural, the film is being produced by Universal and Platinum Dunes and TRON: Legacy's writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz recently confirmed one thing about the project: It won't be scary.

"No. It's Indiana Jones – that kind of tone," says Horowitz. "It's a big adventure movie."

It will be interesting to see how they will make it look different from Jumanji if that's the case.

Ouija is scheduled for a November 9, 2012 release.

I dunno, i was kind of hoping this would be a scary movie. I'm a bit disappointed by this :csad:

So people are gonna connect to dead spirits to find ancient artifacts ? Doesn't sound too bad . I wonder how we got to the point where adapting board games is acceptable. Also cracks me up how kids have the option to play monopoly , scrabble , or communicate with the dead.

I'm very thankful to have Michael Bay's name plastered on movies, just so I know which ones to avoid:yay::up:

McG is pursuing the film adaptation of the classic Hasbro board game "Ouija" for Universal Pictures and Platinum Dunes reports Heat Vision.
"Tron: Legacy" writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz are penning the script for this "four-quadrant supernatural adventure" said to be along the lines of "The Mummy" and "Indiana Jones".
Breck Eisner ("The Crazies," "Sahara") reportedly pitched his take the other week. The studio is targeting a November 2012 release.

Didn't they already make a movie about people screwing around with an Ouija board?

McG directing a movie called Ouija board...

It's so lame they should change the title to "Sucks"!

Ouija Board Movie Gets Sherlock Scripter

Simon Kinberg on game to film adaptation.

June 16, 2011June 16, 2011June 16, 2011

If there ever was proof of hell, it must be the current crop of movies based on board games. That would include Ouija, which is being turned into an "action adventure" by McG. And now that project has a new writer. No, not Satan...

The Los Angeles Times reports that Simon Kinberg (Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Sherlock Holmes) is doing a polish on the script for Universal. Presumably he is reworking the earlier version by Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis (Lost, Tron: Legacy).

"The move does offer an interesting window into the direction of the film," points out the paper. "Although some were quick to assume the movie would have a supernatural bent, Kinberg's specialty is big, upscale -- and sometimes comedic -- action pieces."

Kinberg and McG previously worked together on the upcoming romantic comedy This Means War

Chutes and Ladders would be epic.

Uncorking a .50 cal at the top of a 15' A-frame would be something for the ages.

"That Ouija sounds interesting. What is that, a foreign horror film? ..... Oh, it's pronounced 'Weegie'? Like 'Weegie Board'? .... They're the same thing? ..... Well, **** this." :o

Universal Puts Ouija Adaptation Into Turnaround

Source: Vulture
August 24, 2011

Universal Pictures has dropped another big project following Clue and The Dark Tower.

Vulture reports that the studio has put Hasbro's Ouija into turnaround. The adaptation was to be directed by McG and produced by Michael Bay. This means Universal will have to pay Hasbro a $5 million penalty for dropping a project as laid out in their 2008 deal.

Ouija was previously said to be one of four Hasbro adaptations that Universal was still interested in, with the others being Battleship (in theaters May 18), Stretch Armstrong and Candy Land.

It's not clear what happened with Ouija, which recently got a new draft from screenwriter Simon Kinberg.

Vulture adds that McG and Bay are now taking meetings with other studios, though Paramount Pictures has reportedly passed on the project.
