Michael Bay bringing Ouija to the big screen

I had no idea there was actually a Ouija movie in develeopment. It saddens me Universal dropped the project instead of just dropping McG and Bay.

Ouija is Back on Track at Universal

March 5, 2012

Based on the Hasbro board game, Ouija is now back on track at Universal, but with a twist. Deadline reports that the film, once planned for a $100 million budget, will now target a significantly more modest $5 million, likely aiming for some of the same box office revenue as that generated by the supernatural Paranormal Activity franchise and recent hits like The Devil Inside, Chronicle and Project X.

On track for a 2013 release, Ouija is set up through Platinum Dunes. The supernatural adventure was originally scripted by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz with Simon Kinberg coming in for a rewrite early last year. Then, last November, Marti Noxon came aboard to rewrite as well.

The board game Ouija has been produced by Hasbro's Parker Brothers since 1966, with millions being sold worldwide.

As sick as I am with handheld camera movies, it sounds better then the original plan.

Bates Motel's Olivia Cooke is Ready to Play Ouija

Fans of A&E's "Bates Motel" will recognize today's latest addition to the cast of director Stiles White's Ouija. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that actress Olivia Cooke has joined the cast opposite the previously-announced Douglas Smith and Daren Kagasoff.

Originally conceived as a big-budget adventure movie, Ouija, naturally, takes its cue from the Hasbro "game" of the same name. The project saw its beginnings at Universal, but it moved to Paramount where McG was attached to helm. Earlier this year, however, the movie reverted back to Universal with Blumhouse Productions (Paranormal Activity), Platinum Dunes (Friday the 13th) and Hasbro (Transformers, Battleship) producing.

The script, written by White and Juliet Snowden, follows a group of high school students after the death of a girl at their school. Cookie will play the a friend, who discovers that the deceased had been playing with a Ouija board shortly before she died.

Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are producing the horror movie via their Platinum Dunes shingle along with Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions and Brian Goldner and Bennett Schneir of Hasbro.

Oh man, it's from Platinum Dunes so it'll be some quality horror.

:o

Wasn't Shyamalan supposed to make a film about the Ouija board game (with a twist)?

Ouija, arriving October 24, 2014, follows a group of friends who must confront their most terrifying fears when they awaken the dark powers of an ancient spirit board. Stiles White directs the supernatural thriller that is produced by Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form (The Purge, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th) alongside Blumhouse Productions Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity and Insidious series, The Purge), Bennett Schneir (Battleship) and Hasbro. Juliet Snowden and Stiles White wrote the script for Ouija, and Universal will distribute the film worldwide.

The October 24 release date puts Ouija up against Paramount Pictures' horror franchise sequel Paranormal Activity 5 and the Ken Scott comedy Business or Pleasure.

Main character: The board...it...it's moving. What's it spelling?

Secondary character: E...X...P...L...O...S...I...O...N....

Main: Explos -board explodes in giant CGI fireball and kills everyone.*

The trailer is playing with Fault in our Stars, shockingly no one put it online yet. I did casually step into the theatre to see what trailers they showed, and it's pretty much a Platinum Dunes horror, but with a much larger budget. Girl dies, her friends use the board to contact her but they **** up and unleash something worse.

Trailer just showed up in my youtube newsfeed.

Saw this trailer the other day. Is Olivia Cooke trying to become the new scream queen?

Regardless, even though I love her, this looks pretty crappy.

Anyone watched this and the sequel? It's amazing how much Origin of Evil was able to make such a crappy first film make some more sense.
