Michael Giacchino WILL score The Batman

I will say, as someone who's been a bit hesitant on Giacchino, I enjoyed the score quite a bit. I think he def stepped up. I fell asleep listening to it last night and woke up in the middle of the night with the piano sonata playing, haha. That's not a bad thing, as I used to always love putting on Zimmer's Begins score (the softer tracks) to go to sleep to.

While he still makes some composition choices that aren't always my favorite-- I will say that I think this is an incredibly well-produced and mixed score. It sounds very polished, punchy and clear. Very much like the movie itself seems to be. A bit of a golden age throwback with a few modern touches. Could've used a few more of those touches and some more variety though, personally. While I enjoyed everything I heard, I also kept waiting for that epic moment to knock me off my feet which never quite came. I do really enjoy the softer, more emotional stuff IE Catwoman and Bruce's (or heroic Batman, whichever) theme. I think that's where the score is shining most for me so far.

Will obviously need to give it more time to sit, so far I'm not sure if I can say this is quite near the benchmark of Elfman/Zimmer/Walker for me. I definitely can hear some echoes from all of them in here, but something about this also just feels a bit 'standard' to me. It's a very solid Batman score. But it's a 3 hour film and there's probably a ton of music not released + seeing how this all works in context. It could definitely grow on me some more once I get more familiar with it.

I will say, i am a little disappointed that the arrangement of the batman theme as heard in the 2nd trailer is not in the score. Nor is the ave maria track that was heard in the Oreo marketing.

whaaaat ??! where he included the 60's theme in the soundtrack ? i didn't heard it

Тhe Batman theme arrangement from the 2nd trailer is in the soundtrack - specifically in the "Can't Fight City Halloween" track.

It sounds almost exactly the same as it did in the end of the main trailer.

Yes that is true, but I'm talking about the music that starts when Penguin says the "sweetheart" line and then continues when Batman jumps from the building. It has that epic quality and energy, that I think is missing from the score. The only track where the batman theme builds to a conclusion is in The Batman Theme, everywhere else it cuts off rather quickly.
I do enjoy the score however, and I'm sure there is a lot of unreleased music. I'm already thinking about the recording sessions, and hoping I will get my hand on those.

I need to give it a full listen, I like what I heard so far.

I try not to compare but for me it’s tough to top Zimmer.

Hell - I absolutely loved what little Junkie XL did with his Batman theme, wish he had an opportunity to score a full Batman soundtrack

I hear snippets from previous Batman themes, snippets from some of Spider-Man 3 music (both film and game), snippets from the Godfather motif, and it meshes wonderfully.

I used to lean towards indifference with the main theme, but gradually appreciate more and more of the score.

I enjoyed the album, but I think this is a score that will be better experienced in the film. There's a lot of underscore in the OST, which will no doubt be picked apart and spread out over the film. It's surprisingly not very theme-driven. You have the material for Batman and (I'm assuming) Bruce, Selina's theme, and Riddler's theme. And that's about it. The more I've heard it though the more I think Giacchino's motif for Batman is a stroke of genius. It's minimalistic and operatic at once, almost reminiscent of John Williams' Jaws theme in its simplicity and build.

really like a quite a few of these tracks. havent really dug into his work post Lost but this is good.

Funeral and far between really has a lost vibe to me! really dug it. speaking of oats Damon lindelof shows are 3 for three in terms great osts for me.

Highway to anger seems perfect for the chase scene(presume thats for it).

By far the best Batman theme ever for me, on par with Zimmer's theme and Arkham City's theme. Such a shame this version is not officialy used in the OST.

The soundtrack is available to purchase on CD at Amazon, but still no word of a Vinyl/LP release. Anyone else hear anything different? So in love with this score, any exclusive and/or limited print is what I plan to pre-order IMMEDIATELY.

I notice that the score is ranked fifth overall on iTunes albums list.

Now, I don’t often look into these things, but that’s pretty impressive for an soundtrack that’s just score, no?

Just as I suspected.. the score is amazing in the movie. At first I was a little iffy on it but hearing the score during the movie made me like it a lot more

On par with Walker and Arundel, easily.

I've had The Bat's True Calling on loop and I'm still a sobbing mess

Really dug the score in the film. Intro was amazing.

Question. Does anyone remember where (and if) in the film we get the full crescendo of the theme that we hear on the "The Batman" track? I'm scanning my memory and questioning if we ever get that full build-up from piano to the orchestra at full blast.

Thought it was at the end when Catwoman was trying to convince him to go with him.

Either way.... All's Well That Ends Farewell is so f'ing good my goodness

Almost £25 for the physical CD? I know it's all digital and LP's these days, but come on.

It's amazing, beautiful, masterpiece of a score. Bat in the Rafters Part 2 just does it for me.
