Microsoft E3 2009

I think when everyone was saying about Sony having all these exclusive titles coming out and this is Sony's year, their presentation just felt expected. No real big surprises at all.

If you say so, I thought it was good. MS's was the better of the two, but not by a whole lot to me. Not the difference between a Solar System model and a running rain forest anyway

Yea i think MS had the most WOW factor of all 3 consoles. Finally seeing Alan Wake was huge. I still think this Project Natal could have incredible potential. The stuff Molyneux showed, i think, can have some crazy potential. Sony just did as expected imo, they didnt have any big moments. Still Uncharted and GoW looked STUNNING! Uncharted II looked better than anything MS had, so i have to give mad props to that.

But that story has already been created. Why make a game out of it when there is perfectly good book that can be read?
Because Halo is, above all, a video game universe  :cwink:
And it points that they are taking everything into the video game universe.
Look at it as a movie based on a book....
Which makes me believe that all the other books will arrive to video game format sooner or later

I guess I must be the only one who has absolutely 0% interest in Natal or anything they showed for it

What titles were a surprise?

I'm not discounting the quality of their games. But all I heard from the beginning of this year were the exclusives of the PS3, and honestly it felt like they tipped their hand way too early. You knew they had Uncharted, GT, GOW 3, and MAG.

FFXIV and Agent were two titles we had no idea about before the conference. Trico was officially unveiled as The Last Guardian, which was a surprise.

Not to mention the motion, which I think was a surprise for most

Either that, or you cant see past the demo and into the potential of what they could create. I mean what they showed didn't interest me at all, but the concept of it. I mean there is potential there for some really cool stuff.

What potential are we talking about? Talking to NPCs? Moving and jumping around like you're really doing something? Pretend you're picking something up? Flopping around like you're having a real swordfight?

I'll give you FF XIV, but I knew that Sony was planning to do their own motion sensing thing.

No we didn't, it was rumor that basically vanished. It was pretty up in the air at this point. And you'll give me FFXIV, but you won't give me Agent, when did you hear about Agent?

Exactly. I mean think of playing a game like Oblivion or Fallout. Instead of button presses, you can actually converse with the characters to move the story. You could actually be talking to the characters instead of telling your on screen avatar what to say.

And, personally, I really have no interest in that. If I want to talk to people, I'll just go out and talk to people. I'd rather just use the buttons on my controller

Whatever. You arent going to be a gamer much longer. Games are going to get much more interactive than what we have seen.

I read about it on a bunch of websites, rumor or not, I wasn't surprised. And I forgot about Agent, honestly. I just wasn't impressed with it.

Whatever indeed. I guess, I've yet to see how this will make gaming better. I guess some people like talking to screens, jumping up and down, moving around and pretending to do something they're not. I've been doing all that in head since I was gaming from the beginning, I see no need for these things

I'm totally with Teardrop. I have no interest in acting out video game scenarios in my living room.

It doesn't matter what you were impressed with. It was a surprise. Modcar Racing was another surprise title as well.

Im also guessing neither one of you play Rock Band or Guitar Hero either? You are doing the same thing there, you are acting as if you are in a band. Games are moving in that direction, fortunatly or unfortuantly depending on your stance.

Yep, that's a good part of it as well. I don't really get what's so appealing to that. To me, it's like saying you want to somehow digitally put yourself in the movies and TV shows you watch or something

Actually I love Rock Band. But you're still pushing buttons on a controller. You're not doing an interpretive dance.

I've played them both a little, they are ok I guess, but you're right I don't play them much.

Same. I'm sure others feel this way too, but it's what scared me about the Wii once it started getting mega popular. That MS and Sony would feel they HAD to get into motion controls to compete. That gimmick motion games would become the norm. I really don't want to act out a game, I like my controller. When I want to work out, I hit the gym. Motion controls are ok in small doses, but I cringe at the thought of them being the future.

If you want virtual reality, build a seperate machine. I play games for relaxation, as a little get away, or just for the fun or story. Worrying about knocking over a table because I need to swing a sword or walk forward, or gaming becoming like a job or second life...that's just too much for me.

I can RP a bit in some games like Oblivion, but playing with a virutal child is kinda creepy.

I'd kind of hate that. Games like Oblivion and Fallout work because of their stories for me. Remove the scripted responses and you lose the story.

Now, the full-body control scheme could be fun. But overall, like Teardrop, I'm content with my button-tastic controllers.
