Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor

But if they use those new but different additions to have it have it's own Identity there shouldn't be a problem it's better then fully ripping it off and nothing more then that. it's why certain people always tell people that sing to make the song their own and not fully copy the person that sang it first. Have your own style to it.

And they are doing their own thing with this thing. I'm not seeing this Ranger fight like a ninja from japan. As batman does. that would be interesting though. The man from middle earth that has come back from the far East

You are missing the essence of what it means to rip off other material. You can't do it whole cloth. If you do, you get sued. That is why you change things, stuff that isn't truly integral.

See Harry Potter at summer camp, aka Percy Jackson. Or Star Wars with dragons, aka Eragon.

Go to their fans. They will tell you how "different" they are. But all you have to do is read the books, or even watch the films and it is pretty flipping obvious.

And there are plenty of things that have copyed what Stan lee did when he made the teen heroes like spider man and the X Men and have Johnny storm be a full fledged memeber's of a team instead of a side kick. (it's an example) people ripped them off from japan and other places on many levels. But they did their own things ether with using powers or weapons. but they took the same concepts.

war of the planets from japan as some others know it as gotcha mon for example.

it's hard to train teen heroes ( class of the titans set in a school) of any sort with out the disguise of a camp or school . That's most likely why those others did it and to have it in plain sight too. there alot of people that are guilty of it then.

What matters is what they did with them though to set them selves apart.

The engine kind of reminded me of the Arkham games honestly.

Yeah, it's the mark your target system on the top of the orc's heads and the fact you can some what counter in this game not the same way as you could in Arkham. but similar. it's bit more like whats in assassins creed which had the same. the difference is that selecting the main character your after. which is kinda like what in the latter of the two games mentioned.

The combat reminded me more of Batman or Ryse than AC. And the only thing where I thought it was a little too much like AC was when he performed the air assassination but I want that more in games, its too badass to be stuck to one franchise.

I think it's funny that one of the old Ubisoft is having a PMS fit on Twitter about how this game stole ACII's game engine. Yeah..Because WB Games hacked into a computer that held the engine of what? A Five year old game? Piss off guy.

This game is also still in pre-alpha..Who KNOWS what the combat and gameplay could look like a year or so from now.

Don't care either, it'll probably be more fun that AC-III anyway.

Yeah, the combat is clearly Arkham style. However, the climbing mechanics appear to be almost exactly the same as AC (not that I have a problem with that).

I was watching Adam Sessler's impressions for the game on Rev3Games. The intial shock of how derivative it looks hit me just as hard, and he even used the word embarrassed like I did yesterday. But as he said after you get past that, it does look very interesting.

Here it is, if you are curious.

They also have an interview with the director of design.

The game looks cool and interesting.

But I can see the resemblance to AC and Arkham games.

in fact, I read that an AC dev commented on how similar it looks.

^That's what I was talking about. He's a former Ubisoft employee that went on a cry baby twitter rampage about how they obviously stole the ACII engine.

Yup. That's what they did...Stole a 5 year old engine.

I certainly see the similarities.......but tbh.......this kind of game interests me way more than the AC or even the Arkham games.

the whole "wraith mode" sounds like a cool feature, and I'm interested to see what else you can do with that.

also, the nemeses system or whatever it's called sounds interesting, too.

Agreed, his little rant was embarrassing

Don't game engines basically get re-used all the time?

That's my understanding. It's expensive to make brand new engines, so a lot of games and developers just use pre-existing ones.

Here's what I don't get. Wraiths are servants of Sauron and evil are they not?

Or are these good wraiths like the ghosts from the Paths of the Dead?

Yeah, but you still usually do your own thing with them. A lot of the time two games made using the same engine can be indistinguishable.

Haha no they can't. You can always tell when a game is using a game engine from another game or is basing its gameplay after another game

Game engines get re-used but generally the developers have to pay to use certain engines. If they're using an AC engine without paying, that's a bit dodgy. But since we haven't heard anything else about the whole AC 2 engine thing, I'm taking it with a grain of salt.

Those are two different things.

Also considering Bioshock Infinite, Borderlands, Gears of Wars, the Arkham series, DmC, the Mass Effect series, Injustice, Fable Anniversary and The Mighty No. 9 were all built on the same engine, I'd say you are completely wrong about being always able to tell when games use the same engine.

Then you don't play a lot because you can tell. Transformers also goes on that list

Which Tomb Raider before 2013 ever looked on the level of even the first Uncharted? Tomb Raider up to that point were clunky and slow in comparison to Uncharted. Legends was the one released closest to Uncharted, and it is like night and day.

Um...you're giving Uncharted waaaay too much credit here...and I absolutely love that franchise.

What makes Uncharted great is the presentation. If you get rid of the art direction, story and great voice acting, Uncharted is an unremarkable and very standard 3rd person shooter with some platform sections; two things that have been done to death over the years. Uncharted just took those and repacked them with good graphics and characters.

As for this game specifically, I'm excited. I've wanted a good LoTR game for YEARS, and this one seems to have nearly everything that I've wanted.
