Mission: Impossible - Fallout - Part 1

To be fair, Alias is basically 2000's MI: the series.
I can see where people would think that.
Except, Alias had more of a continuous narrative than the original MI series ever did, it was a pretty self contained show.

Also to be fair, that's exactly what Cruise wanted when he hired Abrams. I remember reading interviews back when M:I3 came out, about how Cruise was looking for the next "vision" for the series (because back then his concept for the franchise was basically to hire a new action director each time and give them a platform/showcase), and he saw a couple episodes of Alias and loved them, and basically said, "That's it. Get me that guy." So Abrams was simply delivering exactly what was asked of him.

Yeah, recall something along those lines too.

Was Abrams sort of trying to break into movies anyway around that point, post-Lost? I can't remember, I know he'd written scripts, but like in terms of directing big blockbuster stuff.

I loves me some J.J., but it's pretty insane when you think about it - successful as he was in TV, he's still a TV producer/director following in the footsteps of ****ing Brian De Palma & John Woo, in arguably the biggest movie star in the world's "my baby" big-screen series.

I think it's supposed to give off the 90s vibe of the first.

It's got the off brand dvd cover look.

It reminds me of MCU posters for some reason. I think it is very close to being very nice, but has some obvious flaws. Which I think makes Kane right. A bit of the off brand DVD cover look.

Actually, it looks like the poster you see when you go on fandango or a theater website to buy your tickets.

The one you get for shipping and handling as the "free" gift for ordering your tickets with them.

Definitely weird not seeing Renner on there. All that talk during GP about him taking over the franchise and he isn’t even in this one.

For the people who want to see Tom Cruise in a Superhero Franchise, well, you already have one with these movies.

Cruise, you crazy mellonfarmer. You've done it again.

It really looks amazing

I also recommend the 30 minute behind the scenes video AFTER you watch the movie next week

Well, the score is exactly what I expected from Balfe, a bland remix of The Dark Knight Rises and Inception, with his synth textures from Ghost in the Shell thrown in. There's lots of synth droning along with cheap, fake sounding strings. This is yet another score of his that is mainly an imitation of something else, with no unique style of its own. I wonder if Balfe even has his own stylistic voice, or if imitating others is his style.

Thankfully it's not completely awful, so it should work fine in the film, but it's such a massive step down from what Kraemer did on Rogue Nation. I just can't imagine what went through McQuarrie's head in thinking Balfe was a better option.
