Mission: Impossible - Fallout - Part 1

Looks like the action movie of the year to me, from the chopper action, to the fight scenes, to the skydiving, everything just looks so crisp, and I love the sinister Solomon, it seems he's broken out with some cool underwater exfiltration, and Cavill is carrying more threat to him than I expected given how he's almost always the wholesome good guy or smoothy.

Looks intense I can't wait. Love that we don't really know all that much about the plot.

Yes, other than Luther it's hard to be sure who Ethan can trust and what exactly Solomon and the Syndicate are actually up to, and how it's something Ethan has done previously that plays into their plan.

I prefer Ilsa and Ethan being on again off again lovers that sometimes end up at odds on different sides of a problem. It's more interesting than Ethan having a safe marriage to a normal person like Julia.

Kinda like the Batman/Catwoman deal, which is what I expected, given I thought Ethan had realized he could never be with Julia.

Don't tell me they just gave away how Cavill dies in the trailer.
No, but they might have given away how he APPARENTLY dies in the trailer, only to come back and be killed in the final scenes by Ethan.

Agreed this looks to be the big action movie of the year with some amazing sequences. The hand to hand combat also looks wonderful and brutal.

Loved Rogue Nation and this looks like a good follow up, glad a lot from RN are returning for more screen time.

I hope he doesn't die.

One, because Cavill should be in more films
Two, because that gives them the opportunity to shoot a sequel with him and then with our luck (DC fans) MoS 2 is gonna be filming too so stache drama strikes back

Man Michelle Monaghan and Rebecca Ferguson really do look alike.

At 2:17 I like how they timed the reloading of the gun to the MI theme beats.

Unless the trailers are deliberately misleading us, it looks like Lane is still in play most of the movie. And here I thought he was going to get killed off at the beginning.

Yeah, I mean it's possible that they kill him off right after his "escape" and the real villains just blame whatever happens next on him, but it certainly looks like he'll still be pulling the strings, at any rate.

Anyway, now that Infinity War is behind us, this is back to being my most anticipated flick of the year. It looks SO good. Give McQuarrie whatever he wants to direct Superman, please.

Apprehension about jumping out of a window seems mundane compared to the past stuff Hunt's been through.

Looks like he

-Survives a high speed crash into the side of a car and rolls away

-Two near fatal crashes in a chopper(Truck and remains of a rolling chopper)

Plus a dozen more things that should have killed him.

Looks very exciting though

Ethan's got the same natural survival instincts the rest of us have. Jumping out the window of a high rise without a chute is gonna make anyone clench up a bit.

@edgarwright

I may have seen an early cut of this. And it may be completely killer, with literally tons of amazing practical stunt work. But on the other hand @chrismcquarrie may disavow all knowledge of me having seen a sneaky peek...

I have to say...I think MI has become better than Bond story and action wise. That trailer was just fantastic. They seem to just keep upping the bar over the past 3 films.

It certainly looked that way.

I don't know if thats the case here, but they gave away the ending to In The Line of Fire in the ads.
My father was so mad about that!

My point with my previous is that trailers often say too much.
I think that this trailer showed us a little more.

But, it didn't ruin anything for me.
Did anybody out there feel spoiled?

Like the first trailer this one did nothing for me. I'm beyond tired of the "Ethan goes rogue" trope, and I haven't liked the Marvel-esque schtick the series has adopted under Bad Robot. I'm also still frustrated that Kraemer won't be doing the music.

Overall I just can't get excited for this one. Not sure there's anything left to do with this franchise in its current iteration.

I agree. It's strange, they're both essentially spy/espionage/action flicks with a fairly invincible and highly skilled central character, loads of tech, some tongue in cheek quips and always an evil villain of some sorts.

But I feel like Bond has become a bit tired over the last few films, almost like they're repeating the motions. I still thought they were excellent films (even Spectre), but MI films have almost felt fresher, less cliched and more rejuvenated as they go on - especially from Ghost Protocol onwards. Personally I've only felt that kind of kinetic energy with Casino Royale, which - after the Moore/Brosnan period - felt like purifying the brand somewhat.

Not sure if it's just the differing tones, or if it's down the characterisations of the protagonist. Ethan Hunt seems 200% committed to doing his job no matter what, whereas Bond has had a bit of 'will he/won't he' in recent times and seems blasé about his role on occasion.

Not sure that I notice these Marvel influences.

There aren’t any. It’s just a new Zeitgeisty way of trashing something. And it’s flawed to begin with as Marvel does good work. People just hate what’s popular.

This looks spectacular. The action looks fantastic and I really hope this leads to better roles for Henry Cavill.
