Mission: Impossible - Fallout

After how well the last two have done, I'd be really surprised if this isn't worked out fairly quickly.

I'd be surprised as well if it didn't get worked out. Mission Impossible is one of the last viable franchises Paramount has left right now after Out of the Shadows tanked.

I mean again, Tom Cruise literally got fired by Paramount, and they were still able to work together again and make a new movie. This seems minor in comparison.

And there's really no point in continuing the movies without Cruise.

It's funny how things change. During Mission Impossible 3 Cruise was the one who took a pay cut

While Mission: Impossible 3 has been delayed over the past few years by several director and cast changes, the production’s biggest obstacle may have been its biggest draw: star-producer Tom Cruise. Reports last week in the New York Times and elsewhere suggested that Paramount might pull the plug on the expensive project because of fears that Cruise is alienating potential moviegoers with the public spectacle of his romance with Katie Holmes and his increasingly frequent talk of Scientology. A more likely cause of Paramount’s jitters was Cruise’s budget-busting profit-participation deal. On Wednesday, however, Paramount announced that the film is a go, with shooting to begin next month. According to the Los Angeles Times, what put the film back on track was Cruise’s willingness to take a major pay cut, giving up what could amount to tens of millions of dollars.

Then Ving Rhames asked for more

"I may be doing something very small in Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol but I will just say that the budget changed dramatically and I'll leave it at that."

We followed up by asking if that meant that he would only be appearing in a brief cameo in the film?

"Hmm... Cha-ching could create that but it's up to them."

With the kind of year Paramount is having, they need Ethan Hunt and Optimus Prime now more than ever.

MI III was in the midst of people turning on Cruise after the Oprah thing (which I've always felt was overblown myself), so they weren't sure if the movie would do as well (and as I recall, it did underperform somewhat. It wasn't a bomb by any means, but it didn't make as much as they were hoping).

Fast forward to 2016, and if anything the franchise is at it's strongest now. It's last two installments are the most critically praised and financially successful ones and people are actually pretty excited for the sixth one. So circumstances have changed and Cruise can afford to want to get paid this time around. He's got the leverage now.

Give Cruise whatever he wants! This is a no-brainer.
The series is better than it's ever been, and it's been one of the most trustworthy, safe choices in quality for moviegoers in recent years for a franchise. It keeps getting better AND it consistently delivers AND it's a critical darling.

Well they greenlit the movie during the whole Oprah fiasco, and his antics were really putting them off. The movie did under-perform and they blamed it on Cruise and the Katie Holmes business. It was a very public spat.

MI III s still my personal favorite.

That's the only one I haven't seen all the way through, but I've been meaning to.

I really liked the last two and looking forward to this one...Is Paula Patton coming back?

Not sure. I'd like her to. There's no reason why we cannot have two women involved this time (especially if Rebecca Ferguson continues her "I'm kind of on the team, but not really" thing).

MI:III isn't my favorite, although I do like it quite a bit. But it does have the best villain in the entire series imo, and it was the start of the franchise turning around for the better.

:funny:

M:I-6: Danger Money.

C'mon. The easiest joke ever

M:I-6: The search for more money.

I'd like to see the next movie have Ethan NEVER interact with Benji or Luther or Renner's character

We got through half way with part 5 when Ethan meeting Luther and Renner in Morocco.

That would make for a fun sequence. Here's some cool buildings for a Sky Bridge sequence.

If he comes here, this will be something I'll need to see.
Traffic will SUCK if it does happen.

Exclusive: Tom Cruise closes deal for 'Mission: Impossible 6' http://thr.cm/ZGlel4

Light the match and cue the music.
After contentious dealmaking halted pre-production on Mission: Impossible 6, earlier this summer, Tom Cruise is on the verge of closing his deal to return to the Paramount action-thriller franchise.

Cruise’s return for a sixth installment in a movie series that he has been toplining and producing since 1996 seemed like a no-brainer, but negotiations with Paramount took an unexpected turn with the studio, which was co-financing the movie with Skydance, digging in on things such as backend profit participation.
The project was heading towards a January 2017 start when the pause button was pushed.
Now sources tell THR that issues have been resolved and Mission is being re-started. Spring 2017 will be the new start time.

Christopher McQuarrie, who reinvigorated the franchise with the fifth installment, wrote the script and will direct.

Thank goodness. Although I expect MI6 to be a spring or summer 2018 release with the new start time.

They will have to get to a point where the mission impossible series is going to need different casts as they dont have eternal life.

personally i think Chris Pine would be a great choice to replace Tom Cruise at certain point. Definatly needs to be named differently to Mr. Ethan Hunt.
Evan or John Reed i dont know.

There is the possibility to give Cruise another function assignment in the movie. i dont recall what happened to his wife and kid though, i remember in, was it 3? that he had a wife and kid and i dont recall at all what happened there as of 4. perhaps an entry to get him to finally disappear at the end of MI6.

what is the origin of Mr. Ethan Hunt btw?

Called it almost a month ago. This was just a minor informality to get worked out.

You didn't need to call it. We all knew it would be sorted out eventually.

He has a wife but there is no kid.

You would have thought that after Rogue Nation that they would be done with this franchise but it seems to keep going it is almost like the Bond franchise

Did they say Rebecca Ferguson was going to be back? Hope they bring back Paula Patton and Maggie Q too and and basically have the greatest MI team assembled on film. (In addition to Renner, Pegg and Rhames)
