Mission: Impossible - Fallout

Why can't a Fincher directed film happen anymore?
Cruise wanted him once. He's powerful enough to get him.

Because Fincher is naturally unrestrained, which makes him allergic to franchise films. Dragon Tattoo was as far as he was willing to go. He even dropped out of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea because the studio wouldn't let him paint the west as the aggressors and bad guys.

This is Tom Cruise's franchise. Who is he going to pass the torch to? Jeremy Renner? Are you kidding me? They gave him a starring role in an established franchise and he left it in shambles.

I stumbled across an old interview Cruise did with Entertainment Weekly in '96 to promote JERRY MAGUIRE and when they asked him about a second MI film he stated he was actually considering producing only and that they would look for another lead (Cruise at that point hadn't starred in any sequels).

Imagine what the franchise would look like today if that had happened (or indeed if there had been any films past the second one).

Tom wont be passing the torch anytime soon, and while I loved Ilsa I don't see her as an actual IMF agent ever, part of her charm is her mystery and ambiguous nature. They better bring her back for the 6th though.

I think a great sequence for the 6th movie would be the IMF having to infiltrate the White House for a piece of intel, maybe even hidden in the Oval office.

On the chase front Tom loves speed so if they could find a way to do something with F1 cars it would be pretty cool.

Well, we've now had trains, planes and automobiles. Even a helicopter. We still haven't had any death-defying boat sequences yet. I say that should come next.

Maybe something involving a Aircraft Carrier as they have fighter planes as well which offers up an interesting set of possibilities. :D

Maybe something snow-related? He already has done sand (in GP) after all.

Definitely want something in the snow, it's been 5 movies and the team have never been in that environment. It could be a Snowmobile chase of my cable car idea. :sly:

I think Justin Lin would be a good pick to directt he next one, if McQuarrie can't do it.

Justin Lin is a good choice but I get the feeling it will be Doug Liman.

Anyone want to guess what crazy stunt they'll have Cruise do next? He should do something with a fighter jet.

A little bit of a nod to Top Gun in there!

I kind of feel like the series belongs to tom cruise and the opposite of the bond films. You can always have a new bond every so often but cruise makes this series and if you take him off and put a new face in I doubt there nearly as popular. Same thing going on right now with fox and 24 rebooting without kiefer, just isnt the same.

There wouldn't be a franchise if that was the case ;) .

Oh, now the guy thinks of himself as above "blockbuster system".

I hope his next few films will all fail so that he just has to take what's offered to him.

Fincher should do action, adventure, sci fi, fantasy and/or superhero stuff. It's not beneath him at all. He has too high thoughts of himself.

When Cruise is done, they just need to do a complete reboot, imo.

If the franchise continues after Tom leaves, this is exactly what I want to see: a reboot with new versions of Jim Phelps, Cinnamon Carter, etc.

^:whatever:

Doug Liman doing Mission Impossible would be love.

Christopher McQuarrie - screenwriter
Doug Liman - director
Emily Blunt - female lead

As much as I loved Edge of Tomorrow, I would love to see the team to work on MI6 instead of EOT sequel.

See I just want Rebecca Ferguson back. This whole merry go-round when it comes to female characters has gotten kind of ridiculous at this point. Or, we could have both of them, that works to.

I really want the next one to be closer to GP and be more team based.

Probably not likely to happen but George Miller would be an interesting choice for the 6th film.

I love the way they left it open for Ilsa to return and I really hope it happens as she was awesome.

Miller or Liman would be great, the latter seeming like a far more realistic possibility. And yes, Ilsa must come back, though if it's true that they tried to get Maggie Q AND Paula Patton back for RN, I hope they'll try again for MI6. It would be nice to have more than one female team member for once. Just imagine THREE. :wow: :oldrazz:

I think McQuarrie should stay. Rogue Nation was actually the best looking film of the series. The cinematography was outstanding.

I'd love for McQuarrie to stay (and I said the same thing about Brad Bird right after GP), but that seems unlikely as it goes against Cruise's M.O. for the series.

THREE WOMEN?! Whoa now, that's a lot. It's like you're trying to make it all equal or something.

Ethan getting new teammates after each film(which I thought it was cool and added to IMF's deliberate nature of seeing these agents as being formed randomly and doing one job and onto another one) kind of stopped after the fourth film.

The only thing is with so many more characters it means a bigger team and more characters to handle in a lean spy thriller plot. Not all of them are guaranteed to get as much as development as others.

Let's assume: Ethan, Benji, Luther, Brandt, Ilsa, Paula Patton and Maggie Q. Seven can be done you might just need a slightly longer running time and efficient storytelling to still make it fast paced and not bogged down by too many characters.

Heres a boat sequence idea for the ending of the next movie

Ethan is chasing the big bad. They eventually end up on jet skis & they have a chase in the ocean. Ethan has a grappling hook on him & a Grenade Launcher. Why a grappling hook you ask ? Because there are also a **** load of Fighter Jets in the sky failing miserably at taking Ethan down. But his jet ski gets blown up eventually. So Ethan than uses the Grappling Hook & the Fighter Jets & he simply swings in mid air above the ocean & he catches up to the main bad guy for the final fight
