Man, I am pumped for this movie.
I have not read this thread before, so you have to excuse me if I have missed what you have been discussing here.
But I have been hearing that they are going to start focusing on another characters within the M.I universe. From how I see it, it feel a little wrong. I mean, Tom Cruise isn't too old to be an action hero. One of his "gifts" is his youthful looks. And he's still very physical and good with stunts. We don't need to be afraid of him getting aged out of the character for years to come. As long he's still in good shape, I can see him playing Ethan Hunt when he's 55.
Rather than introducing a different lead character, they could fint a new Ethan. If you want someone with the same hair color as Tom, go pick Mark Wahlberg. Well, he's not as good actor as Tom, but he will manage the action part.
If you rather have someone with talent, take Jude Law. Him being Brittish won't destroy the franchise, it might even give it a different shine.
Don't bring his accent up, I am sure he can change that to sound American.
What the heck, give the role to Christian Bale and you will get both talent, the hair color and the right physics.
I would prefer that to them not getting a mention at all, Ving has been a big part of the series and Monaghan was a big part of M:I3, so to see them not get a mention at all would be dissapointing.

I am getting a positive vibe as well. I'll check it out first day.Man, I am pumped for this movie.
Early reviews seem to indicate its a great action flick. Brad Birds looks to have made a successful transition.
Edit: Good movie with great action, not just mindless action.

I think the second one is pretty great, considering John Woo was behind the helm and had to tame the violence a bit. But it's simple plot was even mentioned in the movie,
Luther: " That simple huh?
Ethan: "Why not?"
It still had it's espinoge feel, along with great action. Although I think de Palmas movie was much more centered on the espionage, the second showed how well Ethan was trained in guns, combat, etc, and the third shows the other tricks, like the lip reading and other gadgets.
I like that, because it does feel like a "new episode" each time, which is what Tom wanted from the beginning.
I really hate Robin Thicke right now, she is one of the finest MILFS i have ever seen.
