I have to wonder if they're going to make even a mention of Ethan's wife in this one. She was kind of a major player last time, and she knows everything about his life.

Just came back from the theater.
It was pretty entertaining. Very cool setpieces. Quite funny, pegg constantly throws stuff in.
There is a nice side story with brand which worked quite well i think. And yes there
is something involving ethans wife but i cant talk about it without spoiling different things..

But over all a solid movie.. it delivers what you would expect from the series.
The only minor complain i would have is, that there are way too many gadgets.
There is literally every 5min some device used for something. But some are pretty cool like
the gloves or the thing (dont know how to describe it) they use in the kreml.
Also there is no verbal face-off with the main villian, which i thought was a little odd.

One other thing that was really neat is that they have this sequence at the beginning
which shows bits from the movie .. exactly like in the old tv series, that made me really smile :)

i would give it 8/10

I heard there's a end scene on par to the last Fast and the Furious movie. It sets up a new movie? What was it?

i haven't seen the last fast and the furious movie..
MI4 ends with: (minor spoiler)
ethan hands out phones with a new mission to his team. he then walks over a bridge while listening to the job discription and disappears in a cloud of steam

Yep, Paramount is unveiling MI4 on Tuesday night as well. Our theater will have 7:00, 9:45, and midnight shows.

I have a feeling I'll be working on that day.

yeah,
they are stopping him and his henchmen personally. but there is no talk like in MI3 where you
have the scene on the airplane and the stuff at the end where davian is taunting ethan.
Thats normally the case in every thriller or something from this genre, thats why i wondered..
In this ethan just gets to him at the end , they fight and thats it.
if i'm remembering correctly they dont talk one word to
each other, other than one "hello", where both dont know who the other guy is.

On the other hand i wouldnt know how to construct it, because he´s he pretty straight forward villian
and not very twisted. And he has not really much screentime overall ..
The movie is really about ethans team and the tasks they encounter.
Which is fine and works.. and it doesnt drift into the Tom-Cruise-Show.. every character gets his moments.

Extremely dissapointed! Terrible script, one of the worst villains ever... Loved M:i:III but even Mission Impossible 2 is better than this ****. However... Paula Patton is :hrt:.

4.5/10

I wonder if Tom Cruise would return to a Mission: Impossible 5 or if Jeremy Renner is really going to be the main man from now on.

I'm going to see this in an hour (in liemax)

I just watched M.I. 2 ( bought it for the movie money) and realized it's much better than I remembered. Although I prefer more focus on the team and Ethan shouldn't be doing flips. One thing I don't understand is why they discarded Thandie Newton.

She was supposed to be Ethan's wife in Mission: Impossible III, but Thandie Newton was pregnant and unavailable. So, they separated the character into two: Michelle Monaghan's Julia and Leah Quint, who was going to be played by Carrie Ann-Moss, but ended up being cut from the movie altogether.

if u buy any of the MI movies on blu ray u get 10 dollar off to watch ghost protocol...anybody know if its for edwards cinema or AMC?

The first great Mission Impossible film. The first one was thrilling, the second one flat, the 3rd one exciting and fun, but the MI franchise has always been missing something extra that could make it rival the Bond or even the Bourne franchise. With its fourth outing, the franchise finally feels like its a rival to the other spy action franchises. Here are the positives and negatives:

POSITIVE:
Ethan Hunt. Never cared for him, never liked him. I thought Bond, Bourne, and even Bauer s#$ts on him. But with Ghost Protocol, he has become a proper bad ass. I always thought Cruise's Ethan Hunt can be easily replaced in this franchise, that the missions are more important than the Hunt character itself. This time around, the Ethan Hunt character has become a must-have for the franchise. The thought of having Cruise replaced seemed illogical now.

The supporting characters in Simon Pegg and Paula Patton are great additions and play well with Cruise. I hope they become permanent fixtures for this franchise.

The action. Best action movie of the year. Brad Bird. Let this franchise be your baby. Keep making Pixar movies as well. Action movie directors need to watch this movie again and again and again.

The tone and atmosphere of the movie is great. It's even a lot more more fun, fresh, goofy, and exciting than part 3.

The settings, the locales, the gadgets, are presented in top notch and innovative ways. It more Bondian than the recent bond films (although Casino Royale has a better storyline, Ghost Protocol is a better spectacle).

NEGATIVES

The villain.

Jeremy Renner. I would have liked if Ving Rhames was in this rather than Renner who seems bored. Everything he brings to the team, Cruise, Carter, and Pegg already brings. Don't bring him back for part 5. IMO of course.

The 3rd act. The 3rd act is great, better than MI3's 3rd act, but the stakes and action pale in comparison to the great 1st and 2nd act.

Ethan Hunt's character journey. The portrayal of Ethan in this movie is iconic and brilliant for the first time IMO, but his character plot with his wife feels shoehorned in.

Here is my final score for the movie:
9/10

MI- 7.5/10
MI:II- 6/10
MI:III- 8/10
MI:GP- 9/10

Tom Cruise is still the man. Renner is just a supporting character.

Thanks , It's good to hear she was in consideration.

I just got back from an Imax screening.

They played The Dark Knight Rises trailer , I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. :awesome:

This one is closer to MI3 but more enjoyable. They finally nailed the team aspect while at the same time showcasing Ethan as a badass.
I hope all they keep this team together. It's an interesting dynamic.
I can't see Renner becoming the leader though or them making another without Tom Cruise.
The Dubai Hotel is an incredible action sequence. Also I really like the sandstorm chase , Renner in the shaft , and the final fight was really intense.
Only negatives for me is some of the dialogue towards the beginning sounds corny ,Ethan convincing his cell mate he's Russian seemed far fetched , and I suppose the villain could of been more developed.

8.5 /10

I was shocked that there were people that were actually doubting Brad Bird as a first time live action director. I never had that feeling. In my experience, whether it's in animation or live action, more often than not---talent never goes away when it comes to directing and this movie really surprised me at how good it was. Bird's got my attention.

It's not perfect, but it's still so damn great, especially compared to some other action movies we've gotten this year. The IMAX scenes were jaw-dropping, a lot of the action and camera work was incredibly original and unique, and Giacchino's score is amaaazing. I can't wait to see it again (probably in non-IMAX).

Oh, and The Dark Knight Rises prologue was incredible, despite the fact that I had no idea what was going on.. :p

Was going to see this today but life intervened. Hopefully I'll do so early next week.

Sorry if this has been ask but was this movie filmed with an imax camera?

Bird shot action sequences in IMAX. 23 minutes of the film features IMAX footage.

man, Ethan climbing the building in Dubai was ridiculous in IMAX. My theater clapped after that sequence was over. So much suspense.

Thought the movie was so much fun. Excellent job by Brad Bird.

saw the movie last night with the TDKR prologue and I was pleasantly surprised at how good this movie was.

Incidently at the end of the movie Ethan gets a mission involving the Syndicate which in the old tv series was an evil version of the IMF...think of it as their Venom

jst now back from the movie............. burj khalifa sequence was breathtaking and imax enhance the experince.... my only complaint is the villains and renner is a bit weak i expected something more a
turncoat
... but nonetheless a solid action movie with finest gadgets ever put in cinema..... i go with 4/5 :yay:
