Just saw it for the 4th time on beautiful laser IMAX. Still awesome. Love how Ethan's IMF designation hasn't changed since the first film. (BE-11, or "Bravo. Echo. One. One." He even says it the same way, lol)

I love all the callbacks. The reference to Langley, the rabbit's foot on the handcuffs key, Tom's excellent motorcycle skills. Yes you don't have to watch all the movies to enjoy this one but it helps.

Supposedly they were initially talking to Jessica Chastain (for what I presume was Rebecca Ferguson's role). However, Chastain might be me suited to a "mastermind" type of role. The new leader of The Syndicate perhaps?

I'm sure this has been suggested in the history of the MI threads before, but how cool would it be if they could get Angelina Jolie to be the boss villain of the next MI film, maybe even as Jim Phelps' daughter.

I didn't know Ferguson was only 28, she just has this look in her face that says mid 30s. Not like older but like...she's been around.

She has a mature elegance about her that makes her appear older. I didn't know she was 28 either. Still gorgeous as can be.

There is also a homage to "Three Days of the Condor"
The desk with the operator who forwards the calls of the agents is pretty much an exact replica of the one the CIA uses in the Redford film.

The plane sequence was way too short. It basically amounted to what we had seen in the trailers. I felt a little underwhelmed by it in the end.

I think it served it purpose similar to James Bond gun barrel opening montage sequence. It set the tone of the film that just get's increasingly high. And IMO the film just goes higher and higher in enjoyment.

Saw this tonight, really enjoyed it, McQuarrie is just a damn good director. The cast were great, and wow is Rebecca Ferguson a new force to be reckoned with, and damn she is gorgeous, like a sexy mix of Ruth Wilson and Emily Blunt, and she kicks ass!

The action was really good, no one does a vehicle chase scene quite like McQuarrie, put him together with Cruise who is up for anything and you have something special. This has a better bad guy than GP as well, though overall, while this was really good, I still don't think it topped Ghost Protocol as the best in the series though. Not sure if I prefer it to the first or not yet, but it's 2nd or at worst 3rd in the series for me. Great stuff, 9/10.

According to Google, Ms. Ferguson is actually 31 years old (born in October 19, 1983).

Just came back from seeing this... Excellence in execution is all I have to say. Kudos all around.

I still haven't seen it but bought the Quadrilogy a week ago and have been watching all the MI films in order and I have to say that MI:2 isn't anywhere near as bad as some have made it out to be. The motorcycle sequence with Cruise puts it ahead of most actions scenes of most films today and apparently only outdone by Cruise in this film.

Super excited and will hopefully see this tomorrow. :)

I hate the motorcycle sequence in M:I-2, tbh. It's so over-the-top to the point of being laughable, imo. Especially the part where Cruise's motorcycle defies any laws of physics and floats down (on invisible wires) to a perfect landing.

Saw this tonight. Really enjoyed it. Had myself a marathon of the other movies before I went out.

9/10

What about when Cruise and Scott jump right at each other? Oh yeah, baby. :awesome:

When I first saw Rogue Nation and the motorcycle chase, I was almost waiting for him to pull the rear view mirror shot on one of the bikers following him :hehe:

McQuarrie mentioned there'd be nods to the other movies but mostly I saw big visual nods to the first 2.

Mission Impossible
Hanging off the side of the plane - Hanging off the side off the train
The Taurus sequence - Langley Infiltration

Mi:II
The bike chase
The jump into the Taurus is similar to Ethan's jump through the vent in the building rooftop infiltration.

Mission Impossible III
The Rabbit's foot keyring

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol
The goggles Ethan wore in the Taurus scene were similar to the ones he sued on the Burj Khalifa? :D

YES! Mi:2 gets way too much hate and I still think the bike chase is one of the best action sequences ever put on film.

Give the first one a chance. It starts slow but gets very interesting near the middle. It is different than the other ones, as it has that Goldeneye Cold War feeling. You can skip the second one (trust me, it's the weakest one). The 3rd one, however, is the most intense one IMO. And has the best villain. Let us know what you think after you watch them. :)

So I ended up going back and watching the others, I'll see Rogue Nation in the next or so.

I've enjoyed it quite a lot overall. Glad I watched them.

M:I - 7/10
M:I 2 - 5.5/10 [It hit me about half way through that I actually have seen all of this film, but it was about 10 or 12 years ago. I'd borrowed the DVD off of a friend so I could watch the music video for Metallica's I Disappear and ended up watching the film. Totally forgot :oldrazz:.]
M:I 3 - 7.5-8/10 [Mystery boooooox!.]
M:I GP - 7.5-8/10

I noticed something that annoyed me but in the end when the villain has been caught and encased in that bulletproof glass cell the dude then starts shooting at close range but wouldn't the bullets ricocheted back and killed him?

My rankings.

Mission: Impossible-Rogue Nation-9/10
Mission: Impossible III-8.5/10
Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol-8/10
Mission: Impossible-7/10
Mission: Impossible II-5.5/10

This may change after another viewing of RN, but here are my current rankings:

Mission: Impossible- Ghost Protocol-9.5
Mission: Impossible- Rogue Nation-9
Mission: Impossible-8.5
Mission: Impossible 3-8
Mission: Impossible 2-6

Loved Rogue Nation. Gave this a 10. Obviously my new crush Rebecca Ferguson was the highlight. Such a classic beauty reminiscent of the Hollywood starlets of the 60's. Not like the trashy Bond girls that are just there to look good for scenery. Hopefully in the next installment Jeremy Renner will have more do to.

Yes, "trashy" women like Eva Green, Lea Seydoux, Monica Bellucci, Michelle Yeoh, Sophie Marceau, Rosamund Pike, etc. Yes, "trashy," indeed (facepalm).

You know what I love? Most action movies who have a tough female on the good side will only let her have one fight against a bad guy, and it's usually another female (see Fast and Furious series, Guardians of the Galaxy). But this movie had Ilsa go up against a guy, made it believable, and was awesome.
