Action-Adventure Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters

Can’t wait to watch this. I don’t have Apple TV but I might wait until all the episodes drop. Then I can do the 7 day free trial and binge it. Do we know how many episodes it’s going to be overall?
Looks like 10, according to Wikipedia. The finale drops on January 12. I'm planning on re-upping my Apple TV subscription for one month in mid-December so I'll be able to binge the first half of the season and then catch it weekly until the finale.

EDIT: Didn't see @Pennywise 's post first, it wasn't showing up for some reason.

Best Buy also apparently has a 3 month trial you can get.

10 minutes in, and the show gives me a Godzilla truther. It has won me over already.

Imagine talking a cab in Tokyo and just seeing a pair of SAMs on an overpass. Like thats pretty nuts.

I love how Kurt went from "Who are you kids" to "I am so back" in like a 2 min. Dude is ready to rock.

Since next week is the Alaska episode, i think we're going to need a "The Thing" reference counter.

Man, this is actually pretty great so far and I'm already loving the little we've gotten of Kurt Russell's character. The kaiju stuff is cool but I'm really enjoying the world-building and intrigue the most in this show.

Also, thank god they didn't force in a bunch of corny jokes when it comes to the human characters. As much as I enjoyed Godzilla Vs. Kong the humor in that movie was pretty awful.

Yeah I got a three month trial.

loved the bit where the evacuation alarm went off and everyone had to hide at the train station. Pretty crazy

So far, about the only issue I have is the show trying to convince me Kurt Russel is a 90 year old man.

Just realised that Randa is John Goodman’s character from Skull Island.

…man he aged a lot in those 20-something years. Anyway, thoroughly enjoyed the first two episodes. I’m interested in seeing this story goes and really all of the characters are pretty likeable which is great. I’m really bummed about what happened
to Keiko though. She was already likeable in the first episode and even more so in the second one. Sad :csad:.

Boy there sure a lot of ways to get 3 month long trials for Apple TV. For those in the UK, you can get one if you join the Currys perks club.

Just binged through the first two episodes. Really enjoying it so far, and it's brought back some of the mystique that Godzilla 2014 had in regards to Monarch which I appreciate.

That would be a really fun TikTok challenge actually

Pretty sure you can get a 6 month trial with Sky too.

Overall a solid episode. Suffers a tad bit from episode 3ittis but solid none the less.

Always a treat to revisit 1954 and Castle Bravo. Solid all around though I wish they have shown Goji shaking off the bomb. Because as well know, that bomb was basically the equivalent of a 5 Hour Energy for the Big G. Also nice to see Lee, Billy and Keiko's dynamic continue to develop. The three actors play off each other really well.

The present day keeps going at a steady pace. Kurt's energy is infectious and you realize why he's one of the best character and genre actors out there. Its easy to see a lil bit Snake, Jack and even Captain Ron as he guides Cate, Kentaro and May to Alaska. Somewhat curious as to what the Monarch's field peoples story is going to be. Tim seems pretty benign and his partner feels like a fun homage to Jean Reno's character from Zilla 98.

RIP to Shaw's buddy. Dude got Sub Zeroed. Though it feels like the heat got suck out of him.

Looks like Episode 5 is going to see them in the Desert. Looks like more Alaska fun next week.

The new kaiju they showcased in this one was neat. Love that thing's design.

By the way, it seems plainly obvious that they're setting up Shaw to turn out to be Cate and Kentaro's biological grandfather, right? There's a certain tension between the scenes of his younger self and Keiko. Could explain why he and Randa might have fallen out eventually.

Also, with the Serizawa namedrop, is there any chance they bring in Ken Watanabe for a cameo? Probably not, but still interesting to speculate.

I'm only 2 episodes in and I don't care for May the Hacker. To me she isn't interesting and feels likes she's just there to provide Cate and Kentaro a solution to a problem they. Hopefully her character improves for me at least. Love the flashback scenes. I think the casting of Wyatt Russell as a young Kurt is great.

Thank you for acknowledging that Shaw is 90 years old.

The new kaiju kind of makes me laugh. If you know why, you know why.

The bikini atoll test was fun. Nice seeing the broader context of it. Always great to see the big G. Though I do hope it covers how we go from such massive funding to Monarch almost being shut down in the 70s.

I doubt Shaw is Hiroshi's father. We have been getting the flashbacks in weird order. Randa and Miura are much closer in the 59 flashback.

I think he's got some Titan juice going on. Maybe overexposure to Titan Radiation slows aging?

That’s what I think too. They keep referencing how young he looks. There has to be a reason.

I’m really loving this show so far. Wyatt does a perfect impression of his dad, and Kurt is always fun to watch. I also really like Keiko and Bill in the flashbacks, and Christopher Heyerdahl is always great playing loathsome characters. I also really like Kiersey Clemons in this; it’s a shame the DCEU didn’t make better use of her, but then again, with the way that mess turned out it’s probably better that she just escaped that universe relatively unscathed.

I like Cate but I hope there’s eventually a little bit more to her than just being the unknowing daughter along for the ride. Though I do like that she has severe PTSD; so many of these genre movies just seem to show people moving on and living their lives way too normally after something insanely traumatic like the Godzilla/MUTO battle happens. Kentaro is probably my least favorite so far; putting aside that he accidentally put his ex-girlfriend’s life in mortal danger, he also just straight-up left his mom in the clutches of shady Monarch operatives. I know she basically told him to go but no way in hell would I ever have done something like that. Hopefully he redeems himself soon.
