Mortal Kombat 2021

One reason for the failure in Japan is that Mortal Kombat is banned over there so the Japanese aren’t terribly familiar with property.

This movie really came and went.

I blame the producers.
I agree, this movie is practically forgotten about at this point. What happened with this MK movie is no different than who New Line picked to revive Nightmare on Elm St. I remember when that director proudly mentioned that his Freddy would look like a actual burn victim oppose to Robert Englund’s “pizza face”. Look how that mess turned out.

YO I forgot all about that Elm Street reboot. I remember that also when that director took a jab at Robert Englund. I think that was the main reason why I boycotted it. LOL.

I remember what a big deal that director was, Samuel Bayer, and how he rose up alongside David Fincher as the premiere commercial and music video director of the 90s (basically every cool video of the 90s including Smells like Teen Spirit).

He said how he turned down so many opportunities to direct a feature because the right project hadn’t come along. Then the Elm Street reboot was announced with him as director.

Wow, this must be special. He waited so long and this is what he picked. Out next David Fincher. Our next Ridley Scott.

To this day, that was his first and last feature film lol

I appreciate the new take, but they should of kept his costume simple and practical.

Unfortunately, none of the extended fights are part of this.

it didn't help that the movie was written by a first time screenwriter in Greg Russo and a first time director in Simon McQuiod. James Wan made a big mistake hiring those two. If the movie had been written and/or directed by the people behind John Wick, it would have been a lot better.

I have a feeling James Wan had almost zero involvement with this movie. He probably took two meetings and after the second he probably realized WB had no faith or understanding of the source material.

In the end, producers are the ones in charge though. It's the reason they're the ones that get up to accept the Best Picture Oscar. They hire the director, and either trust in their vision or pull a Weinstein and take over.

The deleted scenes were OK, but they wouldn't have really "saved" the movie or made it a great movie.

I think the Shang Tsung scene at least better sets up that he has life-draining, soul sucking powers.

But yeah Asano as Raiden was just bad and clunky.

I think the movie needed to be built around the Twin Dragons, and Liu Kang being in Kung Lao's shadow. Kung Lao being the golden boy chosen hero, heir apparent to the original Kung Lao, something like that. For Kung Lao you could even make an arc on living up to the memory of the original Kung Lao and how difficult that is.

Cole Young is just a lame character and a terrible choice as your central main character for the movie.

I mean that's his backstory from the games, and they did say in the movie Kano was the one that crippled him.
