Mortal Kombat: Legacy - Part 2

I actually spit out my food reading this part. :funny:

Van Dien is perfect for the role of Johnny Cage, a cocky, aging fighter who’s been in the game series since the beginning. During the premiere event he stayed in character, periodically yelling out “Mortal Kombat!” and his catchphrase, “You got caged!” The actor also shared an anecdote about his first meeting with Tancharoen. “

“I went in and I said, ‘So you’re the director. So you’re the guy that wanted me to play this D-list actor that couldn’t get a job, right?’” he told Spinoff. “And he goes, ‘Yeah.’ And I go, ‘What are you trying to say?’ And he goes, ‘Oh, my God, you’re perfect for this.’ And I go, ‘What are you trying to say?!’”

Casper Van Dien was one of the highlights of season 2

Casper Van Dien was funny but what do you guys think of Michael Weatherly from NCIS playing Johnny Cage? With the way he plays Tony DiNozzo, I think he'd almost be a perfect fit.

Well, the Movie would be separate from the web series. So they could practically recast every single character. But I hope he returns. He was great. Just write Cage as less of a ***** next time.

If they keep anyone from the web series. Then it should be Casper Van Dien, MJW & the original Shang

Two interviews about MK with KTanch:

Yeah. My instincts are to go grounded and gritty and tonally dark, and Mortal Kombat really lends itself to that. So tonally they’ll be pretty similar if not more grounded. There will still be all the special powers and mythology and mysticism, but tonally I like to push things into the grounded and dark realm.

I'm a bit worried things might come off dull. I've already seen what this guy does with characters, so I think he should switch it up alot. As long as it's not so serious and grounded to the point where he thinks it's a heavy drama... but actually comes of as boring and lame. I'd rather they just go the B movie cheesy route if that's the case. At least that's fun.

I think Kombat is best served with heavy dose of not giving a **** and just going with the ridiculousness. Alot of it's attitude. That's what makes it awesome. Not saying there can't be drama but I really don't care if everything is perefctly grounded. Ultimately I just want brutal gore fest, fast action and a intense soundtrack. Can't half ass this ****.

Well, his dark and gritty take has actually more ridiculous nonsense than the first Movie. Liu for example throws fireballs freely around, while the Liu Kang in both Movies couldn't do that. And the fighters gaining more strength on the island, so they can do crazy stuff like actually punching a person into the ground or ripping someone's spine out with bare hands.

What worries me is the actual tournament structure. He says the tournament is still a focus, but that it will be more war like. That sounds like the terrible Annihilation Movie. Heck, that's what Season 2 of Legacy is. Fighters running around with no rhyme or reason.

Yeah that was a little weird wasn't it? I hated episode 5 where they just showed Cage, Mileena and Kitana all but watching the fight between Kenshi and Ermac (which seemed right) then noticing the other was there. weak.

i liked Matt Mullins from season 1 as Johnny Cage, but Van Dien just had more charisma and i thought he nailed Johnny Cage perfectly

I hated his look, but he definitely had the right attitude.

It's very much a preference thing, the first guy had the moves, the second guy had the look and the attitude.

I just think it all feels dull and lacks fun. It still takes itself way too serious even with the powers. Which are way underused and underwhelming imo. Something is off with it. TBH, Id rather watch Annihilation then Season 2 again.

Oh yeah, that's gotta be fixed. That was a huge part of the problem with Season 2. I want that Enter The Dragon vibe. They should have other things goen on, but the whole reason for everything is the tournament.

That is something I hope they define better in the films. Exactly how much punishment can these people take? One thing I was wondering, if Stryker had just shot Liu with his gun instead of using his taser (which I thought was pretty stupid honestly) would a gunshot kill Liu, or any of the other combatants?

How much punishment can they take in this amped up world?

Anyone here in favor of Katheryn Winnick playing Sonya in an MK film? She's got the looks, martial art skills and the acting talent...she also use to be a bodyguard

For her acting, see the tv show Vikings and the episode of House MD known as One Day, One Room as basic examples.

Wow, season 2 was terrible. At least in season 1, each story was sort of self-contained. This season is part of an overarching plot, but nothing is really connected. Everything just happens because. It spends way too much time building up to 2 minute long fights that ultimately don't matter a bit. And the whole season builds up to a "To be continued." Pretty crappy.

I liked some of the story lines, it had a couple of good actors that I'd love to see reprise their roles in a movie, and some of the re-imagined characters were interesting, but in the end all of it amounted to a bunch of fighters running around on an island and playing tag. And that was indeed disappointing.

I finally got around to watching Season 2. It was ok.

Casper Van Dien has started training for season three.

I wonder if they're just continuing this to promote Mortal Kombat X? Can't see them putting the kind of care into this that went into Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist.

I found Season 1 was better as S2 was just kind of hurry up and wait. I hope S3 is better. :) The Raiden episode from S1 always freaks me out from the lobotomy scene.

nice!

finally some news. i wonder if Kevin Tancharoen will still be involved in this seeing as how he is not involved with the movie anymore.

speaking of which, what's up with the movie? last i heard the movie was actually gonna be something totally separate from the Legacy series but then Tancharoen left the project

Ed Boon talks about the movie at 39:40

[YT]IHnJfuA3Rdk[/YT]

He said he believes it's still happening but was delayed by Legacy and Kevin's departure.

So judging from Casper Van Dien's twitter: Caity Lotz from Arrow might be involved with this season.

She can easily be a replacement for Sonya Blade since she's not only a good looking blonde but is trained in Taekwondo, Wushu, Muay Thai and she does Parkour as well.

To my understanding she's a solid actress as well. Personally I would have gotten ahold of Katheryn Winnick from Vikings for this role because she's also a great actress, martial artist and a former bodyguard.
