Basically for SM4:
- Spider-man 4 DID feature Peter and Mary-Jane with a baby.
- Vulturess was added in the script, at the request of the studio.
- Vulturess was a retooled version of Black Cat.
- Vulture was the editor of the Daily Bugle.
- Script was apparently pure crap.
- Raimi had lost hope in the project and walked.
- The studio also wanted to add a third villain.
- Anne Hathaway was gone from the project late last year (my guess is when Sony turned the Black Cat into the Vulturess).

And THIS is why I trusted Raimi. He knew this was going to be crap, so he walked. Good choice. Why Sony was shoving this stuff down his throat is beyond me. I would have walked too.

This reboot being more like TDK, though? DO NOT WANT.

The only thing the studio pushed on Raimi was Vultress.

All those other terrible ideas like Vulture being editor of the Bugle. Black Cat being his daughter. And Pete and MJ having a baby? ALL Raimi's ideas.

What kind of drugs was the company taking when they came up with the Vultress? Was that REALLY the best they could come up with? If that really is the best Spider-Man 4 script they could muster, then I applaud Raimi for getting out of it!

I'm not blind, I'm just mad at Sony that they backed themselves into a corner that left them no other choice but to do a reboot. It did not have to come to this.

Exactly. If it was solely important to milk the Raimi tree for all it was worth and go for nothing but a cash grab, Sony would have blinked before Raimi left. They would have caved, just counted on another huge pay day and waited for the box office results. Instead, the studio held its ground. Knowing that Maguire had indicated he wasn't in working with another direction, they still didn't budge. If the only concern is money, why not give the golden goose what he wants?

Word is they planned some sort of reboot starting with Spider-Man 5. This includes getting a guy to pen the fifth and sixth films that Raimi allegedly wasn't all that interested in working with. The idea of a reboot isn't entirely out of the blue. Just ahead of schedule.

Yes Sony came up with Vultress. And that was ridiculous.

BUT Raimi also came up with the TERRIBLE idea to make Vulture the editor of the Bugle. HE came up with the terrible idea to give Pete and MJ a baby, which would inevitably lead to MORE relationship melodrama crap AND Pete wanting to quit as Spidey... AGAIN!

Raimi and HIS writer wrote that TERRIBLE script. Sony wanted to change Black Cat to Vultress. That's all they wanted. And Raimi walked.

I actually wouldn't mind a darker tone if the villian were lizard. a darker tone would actually suit the subject matter. I really wanted sam to tackle the lizard though as it plays to his horror strengths. oh well.
