The Amazing Spider-Man Moviehole scoops details on both scripts...

Raimi wanted the much better Black Cat. He wanted to do a true Spidey love interest. Sony probably feared Black Cat would be called a Catwoman clone (but when done right Felicia really isn't.), Sony forced Raimi to change Black Cat into Vulturess.

That...ladies and gentlemen is how it happened.

Seems the studio wanted Black Cat. I am not against Black Cat anyways. What is wrong with Black Cat? Some great stories of Spider-Man have Black Cat in them.

To me, this is your opinion that you don't like Raimi. You grasping for straws to attack him with and decide you hated SM4 before seeing it proves that.

I DON'T ****ING HATE RAIMI!!!!!!!!!!!

I already said, I LOVED the first two movies. Spider-Man 2 is EASILY in my top 5 comic book movies of all time.

Another Chaseter trademark, putting words into peoples mouths.

But Raimi is not perfect. He made Sandman into Uncle Bens killer for ****s sake! That's stupid!

Then you add studio interference into the mix... SM4 was doomed.

You do what you always do, blame the studios for EVERYTHING. Sure the studio is to blame for a lot of stuff, no doubt. But it isn't just them.

And hold on...the Calgary Herald? Who? Forgive me if I don't take what they say as gospel, especially when other movies sites reports contradict what they say.

"Different" doesn't automatically equate to "Better."
Please point to me where I said it did. Quality of the creative direction did not apply to what I was saying.

Yes, I understand the concept that they want to do something different. I fail to see how this indicates that they have less of an interest in meddling, or that they will not compromise the creative integrity of the project.
Never said they'd have less interest in being hands-on. I thought this was about what they had outlined for the movie, to which whomever gets hired has to abide by. In which case it then becomes a question of whether or not their outline is good in the first place. I would wager the plan is to find a creative team who's ideas for the movie coincide with the studio, at which point they'll have free-reign given they stay within those bounds.

the big difference is spidey is sony's flag ship title. the franchise has a direct say on sony's bottom line. so the freedom they give the likes of D9 (30 million budget) and bond (I'm guessing no more than 100 million) is granted because there is less to lose
Bond is cumulatively a bigger franchise than Spidey. I don't know where you got the idea that Bond is somehow a low-budgeted affair. The most recent flick was budgeted at 200 million, and it's been above the 100 million mark dating back to the Brosnan days.

If my trademark is putting words in people's mouths, I guess Ace's is making up crap:up: I'll take it.

I'd honestly rather have a reboot than possibly be disappointed again, and have Raimi waste his time at attempting to redeem himself when he could be doing other projects. People continue discussing the possibility of Sony casting someone who's young enough to play a high school student, I don't think they'll literally do such a thing. It would be financial suicide. Someone like Emile Hirsch could pull off a teenage look, and has the acting chops to do so. And with this becoming a new trilogy, Sony needs someone they can honestly invest in, instead of making another error.

Yea but am I making up crap? No I'm not.

You choose to believe the Calgary ****ing Herald (who?) I'll choose to believe the various other reports from more credible movie sites ok?

Which all the more proves Sony screwed with Sam's ideas.

Still waiting for you to post an article that says that all of those ideas were Raimis. I already know the baby was his idea so lets see some links for the other stuff you hate:up:

We are better off without the SM4 that Sony wanted. Sam left because the script was terrible yet you still knock him for that:up: Cheers mate:awesome:

WOW the Hype suffered a major break down there.

Anyway..,

I'm not knocking him for walking away, 100% NOT. I applaud him for walking away. He wasn't gonna get to make the movie he wanted, and instead of sticking around and being a yes man, he walked. Good for him, which means, good for us. No more SM4.

As for the articles? Search yourself. Vulture being editor of the Bugle is on all the major sites. Raimi wanted Vulture, Vulture ends up editor of the Bugle, put 2 and 2 together. They also say Vultress is the daughter. We already know the studio changed Black Cat to Vultress though.

Unless you believe some random news paper.

Raimi gets to exit the Spider-Man franchise with his legacy minimally tarnished, and now if Spider-Man Begins sucks, it's all on Sony. At least Raimi didn't let the studio force him into doing something he didn't want again, like with Venom in Spider-Man 3.

I find it pretty hilarious how so many fanboys were praising how now Spider-Man could be "truer" to the comic and that Spidey himself would be funnier, and now we find out that it's going to be a high school version of The Dark Knight. LOL.

I love how you are just jumping to as big of conclusions as the ones being positive, but yet somehow...you are more ''right" than us.

People are taking "more like TDK" way too literally.

Yea lets take Spidey, a character popular for his humour, a character who is worth millions mainly because of his personality, and completely change him beyond recognition!

No.

They mean the STORIES will be darker. Like the Death of Gwen Stacey or Kravens Last Hunt.

You know I've personally wanted my ideal mature-oriented Spidey flick for quite some time, but now I really want it just so it can shut a lot of these complainers up.

I hope to god Sony knocks it out the park like CR did, so I can bring up threads such as these to point out how ridiculous some gossip girls have been.

I just hope the younger actors can convey the serious tone decently...

Moviehole has details on both scripts.

Basically for SM4:
- Spider-man 4 DID feature Peter and Mary-Jane with a baby.
- Vulturess was added in the script, at the request of the studio.
- Vulturess was a retooled version of Black Cat.
- Vulture was the editor of the Daily Bugle.
- Script was apparently pure crap.
- Raimi had lost hope in the project and walked.
- The studio also wanted to add a third villain.
- Anne Hathaway was gone from the project late last year (my guess is when Sony turned the Black Cat into the Vulturess).

For the reboot:
- The script is much better than the script for Spider-man 4.
- The script IS complete, and was finished at the same time as SM4, allowing the studio to compare the two.
- The script was commissioned as a contingency plan, should Raimi walk.
- Unfortunately, they describe the script as "more Dark Knight than Spider-man".
- The new film is the first part in a new trilogy.
- The aim of the script is to cut the "fluff" - which they speculate means no humour and a serious tone.

Wow... That's all they got?... After around 4 ----ing years, this is the best they can come up with?... Okay, if they're really thinking about pulling Spider-Man in this direction. ---- this movie. I don't care how good they make it. I ain't seeing it if they're just gonna rehash some other comic-book movie that we've seen. We don't need to have Spider-Man be completely devoid of humour and be completely serious to have a great movie that people would enjoy. If this is true, I wish that 'Sony' would just cut-off this reboot. Can't we wait a little longer before seeing another 'Spider-Man' movie (if the studios are too dumb to realize just what would make a good 'Spider-Man' movie)?

Pathetic.

No it doesn't make me smart. But Spideys best ever stories feature him in high school. Spideys widely claimed best EVER story is Death of Gwen Stacey. I'd like the possibility of that in film.

you do realize that peter parker only was in high school for like 28 issues... and that gwen and MJ both didnt really become major players in his life till college.... his college life is what i prefer honestly.

No what's pathetic is people thinking "Make it more TDK" like means taking away Spideys biggest selling point completely.

Use your ****ing loaf.

By more mature direction, what do people exactly mean? I get the whole "not TDK" thing but how mature do people want it?

I thought the films managed to balance the maturity and the lighter side fine. The goofy stuff is all apart of SM.

I just need more clarification in terms of maturity. Because at times when it needed to be, the films were veru mature.

People around here act like they were playschool toned films. I mean christ, have we forgotten about the hospital scene?

No more ridiculous ****ing dance numbers for one thing. Serious drama and not soap opera melodrama, which fair enough didn't really rear it's ugly head until the third.
