The Amazing Spider-Man Moviehole scoops details on both scripts...

I agree with you. Sam did the right thing. I just wish Sony had left him alone and let him do his thing with both Spider-Man 3 and 4.

Me too, but we'll never know now :csad:

At this moment, I'd be more excited if you gave me a Spider-Man 3.1 or a copy of the Sam & Ivan Raimi SM3 script, with the Vulture still in it than I am this reboot. That says a lot coming from me.

Again, we all want a good Spider-Man movie. I understand that. But, Sony's recent track record is scary. They micromanaged a man who made them BILLIONS! Do people think all of a sudden, a newer director is going to get more freedom? I don't see it.

In my opinion Vulture is lame anyway. The only time he's been decent, for me, was in Identity Disc.

If Raimi wanted to use Lizard in SM4 (y'know, after using Doc Conners in all 3 films) then I would be upset at this.

But Raimi's ideas for SM4 were absolutely crap IMO. Sure Sony wanted Vultress, but Raimi wanted Vulture as the head of the Bugle, for some stupid reason. And Raimi wanted Pete and MJ to have a baby, which would automatically increase the crappy relationship melodrama that most people have been complaining about. AND it would inevitably lead to Pete questioning whether he should be Spidey... AGAIN!

There is no way in hell SM4 would reach the heights of SM2. So why bother?

Nuff said.

Raimi has his trilogy - that feather is firmly placed in his hat.

Time for something new.

Yep. I am grateful for what Raimi has done. I LOVE Spider-Man 1 and 2. It's OBVIOUS he wouldn't be able to reach those heights again. End of story.

That isn't necessarily an issue if the selected guy can make the studio mandates work. The problem with Spider-Man 3 wasn't that the studio wanted certain characters or other inclusions. It was that the execution of those ideas resulted in dreck. It was entirely possible to craft a film that incorporated whatever Sony dictated into something worthwhile and satisfying. It just didn't happen. It's a similar story to the problems that befell the proposed Spider-Man 4. Instead, another direction was taken. The key now is finding someone capable of delivering the goods with whatever is coming down from the studio who is funneling hundreds of millions of dollars into this project.

We see failure in these situations far more than success. Look at FOX. No one FOX has selected has been able to make studio mandates work (sans Bryan Singer...whom had a backbone, though). Heck, even Ghost Rider (Sony's other big superhero franchise) sucked big time.

iron man and tdk came out the same year so your comment makes no sense now every studio thinks you need to be dark to be successful. Remember those superman going dark rumors till project was scrapped

Because it was lighthearted and cheesy.

Iron Man was not dark and gritty WTF?

By this they mean;

No stupid dance numbers and no cheesy melodrama.

Tell me, what is one of Spidey's greatest ever story arcs? Yes that's right, The Death of Gwen Stacey.

By "TDK tone" that is what they mean, I guarantee it.

Death of Gwen Stacey is very TDK like, but it's still a Spidey story. By that I mean, the hero doesn't save the girl, the rise of the heroes greatest villain. Ever thought about that?

Oh no of course not you're all too in love with Raimi.

Totally agree

Like I said in another thread, I think the next film will be more serious while maintaining the fun and wit known of Spider-Man.

Exactly. There is a difference between taking things seriously, and being dark and gritty.

Yes it was. In large part due to Nic Cage and Sony. It was Cage's great idea to make Blaze a candy addict whom listens to the Carpenters. MSJ wanted him to be an alcoholic.

MSJ made a dark DD movie, that never saw the light of day til DVD. Cage made the film goofier than MSJ wanted. You're just giving me more reason to be concerned by pointing this out.

And Ghost Rider bombed, they didn't make a lot of money of it.

Ignore my other point about Death of Gwen Stacey then...

I'm willing to bet right now that by saying "Make it more TDK like" they mean do the Death of Gwen Stacey.

It bombed, and Sony showed a micromanaging tendency. They did the same with SM3. They did the same with SM4.

1 is a fluke. 2 is a trend. 3 is evidence.

And about Gwen Stacy's death, if that story is successfully adapted, I'd be happy. Again, I'm not hoping the series will fail. I want the film to be good. I just doubt it will be since Sony is not letting directors actually make their own movies. Their making Sony's movies right now, and it is effecting the products.

AOK you are misinterpreting what we are saying about iron man

we were replying to another poster who said why was iron man successful if it was'nt dark and we said it came out before tdk brought the grittyness to the comic book genre

The aim of the script is to cut the "fluff" - which they speculate means no humour and a serious tone.
I'm torn on this. On one hand, I'm okay with dropping the fluff and soap opera-like aspects of Raimi's franchise. If I never have to see Peter Parker dance again I'll be a happy man.

However, there has to be humor. Spider-Man is a wisecracker. He makes jokes. I am so sick of the character being robbed of this trademark. Raimi dropped the ball with it. If they drop the ball again in this new franchise, I will be thoroughly annoyed.

we are not out the clear yet sony wanted the vultress character for god sakes who knows what else they will cook up

We can only take things at face value, Moviehole said from what they gathered the reboot script sounds much better. I'm not going to get hung up on the TDK comment, for all we know that could just mean that they are cutting out the goofy stuff.

Agreed. I applaud Sam walking. He went down this road, and learned from his mistakes. He tried to fix the problems this time (unlik with SM3), and he has handled this situation like a true professional. I am sad his Spider-Man is over, and SM3 is his final legacy. But, I think he did the right thing.

It's unfortunate but he knew it was time to go, he wasn't calling the shots anymore, Sony were. Unfortunately Sony were making the wrong calls.

Raimi's the one who took the blame for S-M3 for something he couldn't do anything about, he shouldn't have to do that again. I mean sure, Raimi didn't do what he should have done and get a rewrite for S-M3 to suit Sony's plans, but do you think Sony were going to green light delays? No way.

why do you guys want death of gwen stacy it wont even be ground breaking or edgy anymore in the comic movie genre

you may hate it but TDK took your thunder away and it will come across as second to TDK since they did it first and will come across ans copying TDK

No you guys said Nolans Bat films did. Implying Batman Begins too. Batman Begins came out before Iron Man yes?
