The Amazing Spider-Man Moviehole scoops details on both scripts...

why the hell did sony want to make the vultress that is beyond me hell raimi probably wanted black cat but sony thought it was a catwoman rip off

Black Cat is a Catwoman rip off. Sexy atheltic cat burglar, switches between goodie and baddie, and has a romantic interest in the hero.

Can't stand Black Cat myself. Awful character.

anyone else wonder how she attaches that tail?

If anyone's been to a full nude strip club, you know where I'm going

yeah, not a black cat fan

Agreed. I think it was Raimi's way of giving them a happy ending. Not adding a baby in their for Peter to be EMO about all film.

But, fans overreact to news without knowing the full story.

Just like how this is all an over reaction. I've spent way to much time on the forum today and guess what we've learned nothing about the new film really or the previous film that is canceled other than hype. I'm gonna try to avoid coming on here for a while cause I tend to get caught up in conversations that truly won't amount to anything but arguments over a movie that isn't even being made anymore and a reboot that everyone is assuming will be the be all end all of Spidey films with quip(do you think anyone at Sony knows what that word means?) So I'll be back when something is announced. I'm sad That I've been excited for Spider-Man 4 since they announced May 5th 2011 months ago then in turned into a giant sh** storm in weeks, but looking forward to hearing new news for the Spidey Reboot and that's all folks.

FROM WIKIPEDIA:

In 1979, creator Marv Wolfman was looking for a female foil for Spider-Woman. He decided to base a character on a Tex Avery cartoon "Bad Luck Blackie" in which a black cat brought misfortune to anyone in close proximity. The Black Cat's costume and appearance were designed by Dave Cockrum.[1]
When Wolfman changed writing assignments within Marvel Comics to Amazing Spider-Man, he brought his character with him. On the bottom of the letters page of her first appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #194, a thumbnail of the intended cover for Spider-Woman #9 (as well as a rejected cover for Amazing Spider-Man #194) appears.
The Black Cat is sometimes mistakenly considered an homage to DC's Catwoman,[2] yet Felicia Hardy's signature low cut black costume, cat burglar profession, and steady relationship to Spider-Man, predate Selina Kyle's similar depiction in comics by almost a decade. Catwoman originally appeared in comics as "the Cat", a maskless cat burglar in a green dress and unrequited love interest for Batman,[3] but later on became a gimmick supervillain that used big cats for elaborate crimes.[4] Although she was eventually given a black catsuit in the television series, her modern incarnation combining these elements didn't occur until 1987 with Frank Miller's classic Batman: Year One.[5]
CBR: "When you created the Black Cat to be Spider-Man’s new girl friend, was it linked to a desire to write stuff about Catwoman or was it only an homage?"
Marv: I didn't plan Black Cat to be in Spidey. I created her for Spider-Woman (look at the letter column of the first B.C. story and you’ll see). I then decided to leave Spider-Woman and moved her over. So, I never even thought of Catwoman when I did her. I got the idea for her from a Tex Avery cartoon, Bad Luck Blackie.
The Black Cat has been the star and co-star of numerous miniseries and appears as a supporting character in various Spider-Man titles.

...Stop with this Batman-superiority. For once i can said Catwoman is a rip-off of Black Cat.

I don't want the reboot to fail, but I am nervous about it. Especially with how Sony has managed the making of Raimi's SM4 (by constantly putting in their input) and how they forced things into SM3 like they did.

They were always going to have another love triangle... they already had two involving MJ. Three if you want to count Brock, Gwen, PP. They never quite explored an additional PP love interest. I don't mind if they wanted to add another love interest. It should have just been Felicia or Valeria Toomes without having them becoming superheroines. Not yet at least. I don't know if Sony insisted on the next female love interest dawning a costume or just having their characters in the film as is.

she may be a catwoman rip off but still seems stupid for sony to make up the vultress character

Great. A dark, gritty Spidey for the re-boot. ********. Spider-Man is not Batman. Sure some stories of his get dark, but Spider-Man is a light, un-gritty character.

They won't make Spidey gritty and dark. Because that wouldn't make business sense. Spidey is popular because of the humour.

It means we won't get any ****** dance routines and cheesey, corny melodrama. Which is a good thing.

pure speculation my friend you dont know that just like we dont know that it is gonna be like TDK with it's grittiness

Jesus, yesterday I was confident it was the right move, now after reading that I'm convinced. I can't believe that the Vulturess rumour was actually true. Good god Sony, the sooner Marvel Studios retains the rights to Spider-Man the better. You may not all realise it but Sam Raimi sacrificed himself for the sake of the fans, he didn't want to put us through such a horrific film. You left on a great note by doing this Sam.

Actually, the studio DID want Black Cat to be the new love interest.

Think about it. If they were so adamant about not wanting the Vulture, why would they want a female version of a character they were against.

Vulturess was the terrible compromise...

Agreed. I applaud Sam walking. He went down this road, and learned from his mistakes. He tried to fix the problems this time (unlik with SM3), and he has handled this situation like a true professional. I am sad his Spider-Man is over, and SM3 is his final legacy. But, I think he did the right thing.

That is speculation. We don't know what it means. Like I have said, I hope this reboot is good. I really do. However, given the way Sony handled SM3 and was poking into SM4, I can't share in the optimism that many posters on here have.

Am I condemning the film before I have seen it? Of course not. I didn't think BB would be very good (trailers were meh), and then I saw the film and loved it. But, just like with BB, I am not going into the new Spider-Man film with any hype. If Marvel were doing this reboot, I'd be more interested. But, not Sony.

I have my doubts Sony will have this film up by 2012 anyhow regardless of whether they have a script nailed down or not. That year will in all likelyhood be an Avengers/BB3 themed summer. Spidey would be an afterthought. Assuming the former two go through as planned of course. The longer they put this off the better.

Don´t care what he says, this Tex Avery cartoon is a bad excuse. The character is a female cat-themed sexy villain, the similarity is obvious, and CM was a very well-known comics character at the time.

With the studio not wanting the Vulture as the villian I am skeptical they
forced him to turn The Black Cat Into the Vulturess.Rami did turn The
Green Goblin II Into the New Goblin. And his treatment of Green Goblin,
Dr Octopus, and Sandman shows he will make major changes to characters.

If Spider-Man 4 would have been made with Peter married to mary Jane with
Child and he were to fell for Felicy hardy,or find himself drawn to the Vulturess
It would have made him look very bad.

I am waiting for soon real details on the reboot to come out before making
final decsions. There could be upsides to It.

I agree with you. Sam did the right thing. I just wish Sony had left him alone and let him do his thing with both Spider-Man 3 and 4.
