Movies that were blatantly plagerized

They also have a War of the Worlds film, and even called it that.

How in the **** did they get the rights for that...

Well to be fair, someone other than Spielberg and Co. did have the rights to make the movie first but it was going to end up straight to video.

I don't think it was this studio though.

but nowhere near as high on the all round dutch gorgeousness scale

Except when they were inexplicably uglifying her face with lame CGI veins and black eyes. What kind of a twisted acid trip did that idea come from?

a twisted one. theres no other sort, in my somewhat limited experience of these matters

Dirty Harry ripped off the Zodiac killer murders.

War of The Worlds ripped off 9/11.

How about specific scenes that were lifted shot for shot? For example...

Tango and Cash...the scene where Stallone stands in front of the oncoming truck forcing the driver to stop on the dime and fly through the windshield is straight out of Jackie Chan's Police Story.

Bad Boys 2 ...the scene where they're driving through the village is also straight out of Jackie Chan's Police Story.

The Musketeer...the ladder fight scene lifted from Jet Li's Once Upon a Time in China

War of the Worlds is public domain, just like The Three Musketeers.

"Pirates of the Carribean" is a blatant and not-as-funny copy of the video game "Monkey Island".
A lot of Disney movies have ripped off Miyazaki movies, but I can't think of which ones in particular right now.

No, I said that The Matrix appears to rip-off Dark City when watched for the first time.
No...you posted something along the lines of thinking "wait a minute" in a thread about BLATANTLY PLAGERIZED films. If the implication was NOT that you felt The Matrix was BLATANTLY PLAGERIZED from Dark City, you should have BLATANTLY stated your position. As it was you made a vague comment, that very clearly implied plagerism. Why not add your disclaimer in your first post? You are back peddling, because you can't stand to be wrong. It's a very annoying trait in some people, and it only serves to make you look like an ass. Playing semantics and word games is pathetic, and will get you nowhere in life.

Go and read exactly what I posted on the first page, it's unedited.

On the subject of The Incredibles and Fantastic Four.

The concept of superheroes is hardly original. They've been ripping each other off for years. It's not even really ripping off, it's doing different things with the same concept.

What the Fantastic Four did was bring a team of heroes that's a family unit.

The Incredibles takes that same idea. Except two of the members are actually children.

The Incredibles is a brilliant take on the superhero family unit idea.

That is all that matters.

The Matrix obviously owes a lot to a lot of movies, but when you see Dark City, you'll say, "Hold on a sec......."
Come on, you do see to imply that The Matrix stole from Dark City.

Making your statement in a topic titles "Movies that were blatantly plagiarized" certainly implies that you believe that The Matrix blatantly plagiarized Dark City.

I will agree that it's not as funny, but it's neither blatant nor a copy of Monkey Island AT ALL.

I did...it's CLEARLY an implication of exactly what I said you implied. Mayhaps you should re-read it yourself.

I hope you're not serious.

in the scene in war of the worlds when the tripods first show up and start vaporizing people and tom (among others) gets covered in the ash of all the people blowing up around him, that was done (supposedly) by speilberg to mirror 9-11, when the tower(s) fell and people were all covered in debri/ash, to get that kind of reaction, however subliminal, from the audience.

plagiarize |ˈplājəˌrīz| verb [ trans. ] take (the work or an idea of someone else) and pass it off as one's own. • copy from (someone) in such a way.

So you can not plagarize actual events, nor can you plagiarize from a book that a movie is based upon if credit is given to said book.

Just thought it might be interesting to throw up the actual definition of plagiarizism.

You're right, I'm sorry.

well, i've never actually been on the ride so I don't know, but it seems to me that POTC and MI both have:
cannibals
a voodoo lady
inept main characters who go out with royal women
skeletal pirates
big mean villains that are undead and keep coming back
forts and chickens
the main characters using pulleys on ropes to escape from enemies
sneaking in on the evil captain of a ship to get an important item
bagering with a dog to get the keys (this I think was on the ride)
Midget pirates
