Well, another day, another lesson learned. Don't be white walking through Harlem alone at 4 in the morning. Was leaving a good friend's birthday party. Had outlasted all my friends in the drinking department, so I was the last to leave the apartment of the family that threw the party. Then on the way to the subway, was jumped by two guys, and beat down pretty badly. Broken nose, partially crushed windpipe, black eye. Took my wallet, cell, keys, cigarettes, even my chewing gum. Bastards. They could have at least left the gum.

First time in my life I think I've actually been rendered unconscious. I'm not sure if it was the choke-hold or the pummeling of the face that knocked me out, as there was much of both to be had. I struggled to get away, but I remember thinking not to throw a punch or elbow, since they had me outsized and outnumbered. I didn't see any weapons about to be used on me, and the guy strangling me just kept saying "go to sleep, b**ch" so I figured they weren't trying to kill me as long as I didn't piss them off by getting in some hits.

I remember it felt sort of like being drowned, like someone was pulling me underwater as I struggled to get air, and then all of a sudden I was having a relaxing dream, with sort of a soothing underwater feeling. Then all of a sudden it was like rushing up out of the water into hard air, gasping, covered in blood, instantly realizing what had happened, with my pockets empty. It wasn't like a normal sort of groggy awakening at all.

Initially, while still pretty traumatized about the whole thing in the ambulance after I'd called the cops, I remember thinking "f**k NY, I'm going back to Pittsburgh" but now I'm actually in pretty good spirits. As soon as I calmed down, I realized that I'm not gonna let an experience like that sour my image of NY. Just gonna have to pay a little more attention to where I am, and when I'm there.

Hopefully since my nose is a bit ****ed, and it hurts to speak, and sounds like I swallowed a frog, they'll be cool with me not coming to work on monday. Door to door charity work pretty much relies on me looking non-f**ked up, and being able to talk a mean game.

Im sorry to hear that dude. Glad you're ok, take some time off. All the best.

Dude, that sucks, I hope you get better real fast

Dude, im glad youre ok. Sucks to hear that man, get better, you need to look good for the ladies.

I wonder if I would have seen it coming and maybe been able to put up enough of a fight to get away if I'd not been wasted. Though I don't think I could have run with the shoes I had. The shoelaces on my shoes had broken, so I had to switch to a pair of boots that for some reason always scrape the back of my right foot, that makes it difficult to even walk, especially after a long day of door to door work had left a seriously painful wound there. I was pretty much screwed all around :down

No one never sees it coming. You were in the wrong place at the wrong time thats life :(. I'm glad you are ok and get well soon.

I am glad you are alright even though I know you must be in pain. You better be more careful from now on too . Hope you feel better soon.

I really hope I can get my old number back. I'd met a lot of really great chicks lately who I only could reach through phone, since I don't know the city well enough to remember where their apartments were. I didn't have their numbers written down anywhere. They're gonna wonder why I just stopped calling them or answering their calls. I guess I'll call verizon and ask if the old number can be kept after I replace my phone. It should be fairly easy to piece together a chain of my buddies' numbers though, since all of them are connected to at least one of my other friends at this point.

Wow...that's really horrible.
my condolences to you.

Hope you're feeling 'better'. Oh and I hope the cops catch those bastardos.

They used my credit card four times before I cancelled it, luckily I won't be liable for those either. I remember the first one being Dunkin Donuts. You'd think that'd be the last place a couple of muggers would go if cops might be looking for 'em.

I have a feeling the cops won't find a damn thing. They're interesting that way. They have no problem busting me and my friends for drinking a beer in the street, or hassling us for being "suspicious looking" while we're wearing bright red Save The Children shirts as we do door to door charity work in Bumf**k, New Jersey. But when it comes to catching actual crime, they're pretty useless.

who pays for donuts with a credit card?

Luckily I'd spent the last of my cash buying some beer for the cool brazilian parents of the chick that'd thrown the party for my friend's birthday. Those parents were so cool. We'd decided that they, my friend and I, and their daughter were going to drink absinthe together the next weekend, and I'd just taken the daughter's number down. I hope I can track that number down before next weekend. Hopefully the swelling on my nose will be all gone by then. It's a minor fracture, they think, though they said the x-rays came out poorly. If it's what they think it is, I won't need surgery. If it's a bigger break though, I might.

Says it all really :whatever:

Wow that sucks...never been mugged myself (although I had a gun pulled on me...but it was certainly not a mugging)...seriously though, I cannot imagine Pittsburgh being incredibly better than NYC. I mean you were in Harlem so it's not like necessarily representitive of the whole city. But anyways, it's good to hear you're okay. And it's also good to hear from you. It's been a while since you've posted around here so I'm glad you're back under any circumstances.

Yeah you gotta be careful in some parts of NY. I think you can speed through Harlem blowing red lights and if the Cops pull you over they'd understand.

This is really the first whole day or so that I've been able to sit around and do nothing. I've been either working or partying. Right now I'm not really up for doing either, since it hurts to talk.

Ow.:(:down

I hope you get better within the week. Atleast you weren't killed or have an injury that will last forever.
Still that sucks.

With any luck, your gum was stale and nasty, your money fell out of the wallet while they were getting away, they'll get cancer from the cigs and your cell phone needs to be paid off so they have to give up a crap load of money which they don't have anymore because it was lost.:)

Yeah, my landlord/lady was like "I'm hispanic and from the block, and even I won't go there alone."

I really should have left with at least someone, but I was just having too good a time hanging with that girl and her parents to leave when my buddies left.
