It doesn't make the situation better, but it's the reason I wasn't exactly thinking about the whole Harlem at 4 AM thing. Plus, i'd been reading about how Harlem had been cleaned up and was a lot safer these days. Unfortunately what I failed to notice is that they were talking about west Harlem. East Harlem is still pretty much a s**thole.

ahh...well, walking round anywhere in the early hours isn't advisable...
