My girlfriend dumped me

Maxwell Smart said:
Nope, I wouldn't. I was just being obtuse on purpose. :o

Yes, I know you were.

The thing is... just substitute guy for girl and that's how you come across in your desperation to have a 'relationship'. And that IS something you can work on now.

This whole idea that you can't do anything about anything until you move to Dallas is BS. You're just setting yourself up for another fall. It won't be different in Dallas unless you start making it different now. It's an excuse to maintain the status quo. It's just like a fat person who thinks their life will be better and they would be happier if they were just thin. It's not the fat that keeps them from having an enjoyable life, it's their mind. It has to start from WITHIN, not from outside.

Oh really? So you think living out in the boonies with no car and it being too far to walk into town, and even when I go to town its still a ****ty, small town doesn't affect my social situation?

So you honestly think it wouldn't change things at all for me to be living in the city(I don't mean a suburb, I'll be living in Dallas proper), with the ability to WALK to lots of fun places or take the bus(so I wouldn't even necessarily have to have a car)?

I mean I know where you're coming from. If you won't try it doesn't matter where you are, but really, its just common sense that I can get ten times more results from trying if I live in a city of over a million people with actual stuff to do and places to go compared to living out in the boonies near a ****bird town with almost no social life.

Maxwell Smart said:
But everyone says to just be yourself.
Be yourself doesn't mean "act as you currently are", because who you are obviously doesn't work. It means being comfortable in your own skin.

Desparate, shy, nervous, jaded are not qualities in "being yourself", in fact those qualities are attempts to shield yourself from the world.

You compared yourself to Batman (:whatever: -I had to). But who is Batman. He is some rich kid who has serious trauma, to deal with it he exiled himself from humanity and travelled the world training, learning and preparing for a war on crime. Seriously consider this? Would he have had any time for girlfriends or friends. No, absolutely not. Girlfriends take compromise and confidence. It takes interaction. They are not prey you can stalk, unlike Kaine or Hooter's Pimp may claim. Neither are friends.

You're the one who moved there.

I didn't compare myself to Batman, Erzengel did in a sarcastic manner, and I was being cheeky with my reply.

K, and I'm planning to get the **** out.

Actually I just moved here to get out of my mom and stepdad's house because I dont get along with them.

Back to the Hall of Justice.

God, this was so bad even Brodie tried to help him. Does this kid know how friggin' rare that is? Brodie's like our Aquaman. He either hangs out at headquarters and eats all the food or runs off and does whatever the f**k it is he does and doesn't worry about saving the world 'cuz he's got all his fish friends to keep him company even if everything on land goes down in flames. I don't think Brodie got the thanks he deserves from Maxwell.

You said "well too be fair Batman was pretty jaded at my age". That's using Batman as a point of comparison to yourself.

I'm Green Lantern. Because even though I'm traditionally a white guy, sometimes to revamp me the Hype will decide I'm better off being portrayed by an African American or Latino.

And I was being totally serious! I'm SERIAL okay? I'm SO SERIAL.

The intrawebs is serious business.

You're still not getting it. You're blaming your problems on where you live... something external. That's just not where the change needs to come from. It needs to come from inside.

You've got money right? Get a bike. You're doing two things at once... getting into town and exercising.

What's the population of the town? It's big enough to support a painting business, so I'm guessing more than 5,000.

My wife lived in a little country town of about 300 people. She didn't have a car, and had to walk to work. I went into the tiny place she worked at to get a Mountain Dew while out and about on my job. We've been together 10 years now.

You work with what you got. Don't give up before you even get started.

Didn't you say you didn't like socializing and going out people?

A little over a hundred thousand.

Anyway, I'm not going to argue you with you. Dallas will be a totally different situation, PERIOD. I will be in school and be living in the city and theres actually stuff to do there. Theres not **** to do in this town, there aren't even any under-21 clubs.

I don't like partying and having a big circle of friends, but I like to go do fun things.

If you are not an outgoing adventurer now, you won't be when you get to Dallas. In fact I would predict the opposite would happen. The sheer amount of social situations will overwhelm you and make you nervous. At my college there is little to do around town, more to the point little to do around campus. Yet I have friends at other schools who come visit (despite the fact that in some cases I have never been to their schools), organize fun events for friends to go to (like the midnight showing of X3 last year), have poker nights, and go out to the few night spots in town.

You seriously, no matter your situation, could be creative.

AND YOU'RE COMPLAINING????

Dude.....my wife lived in a town of about 300....we now live in the big city of Georgetown (population around 5,000).....and you think you have it bad?

Yeah....I guess they'll be lining up around the block by the thousands for a chance to hop into bed with you.
