I'll admit, I prefer answers like RDJ's, who got onboard Iron Man and then got really into the character and decided to read, like, everything Iron Man-related ever. But whatever the reason for her involvement, Portman's gonna put butts in seats for Thor, so that's a good thing.

But really I don't mind if the actors are not into the comics as long they are not just doing a poop performance and doing it for the money I don't mind.

It would be nice if they read the comics and were fans but its not a prerequisite.

It's not like Jane really requires a lot of research. She's pretty normal. Plus, given that most of her characterization comes from the '60s, when all comic book supporting women were weak milksops who existed primarily to be damsels in distress, her character is probably going to be much different in the film anyway.

I've only seen her in the Star Wars prequels and i wasn't really impressed by her. But that wasn't only her fault, the prequels were a bit cheesy. I'm sure Kenneth Branagh knew what he did when he casted her.

She's done alot of excellent work in many movies since the prequels, such as Garden State, Closer, and V For Vendetta. Check those out if you want to see some examples of her acting range.

yea starwars prequels were ok films not as great as the originals. But natalie has done some great roles since there. She is a growing talent. As for comic film yea it doesnt really care if the actors were fans or not before they signed on to film. But its nice to hear once one is signed to X film for them to research X character to help them get the character down right and all that.
