Need of a Batman Next-Gen Game

The Kotaku report says the game their insider played was an open world sandbox game...I'm presuming that the Game Informer cover might instead depict the rumored game based on the comic book license (acquired by Eidos) and not the limboed TDK project.

If this is correct, I wonder what Arkham Asylum might actually be? A linear Horror game set within the confines of the asylum?

Well, at least it's been confirmed that the game will have open ended sandbox gameplay. :woot:

I was right!!!

This is an Eidos game...not the Pandemic TDK project.

It's a good time to be a bat-fan and a gamer:

"Game Informer subscribers are in for a real treat this month. We’re proud to bring you the world-exclusive first look at Batman: Arkham Asylum from Rocksteady Studios and Eidos. This completely original title explores Gotham City’s darkest location, the infamous Arkham Asylum. But as a routine prison transfer goes wrong, the Joker sets his demented plan into action and Batman comes face to face with an army of his worst enemies. In a dark and gritty setting reminiscent of Bioshock (with a story co-written by Paul Dini), Arkham Asylum is setting the stage for a true-to-character Batman game..."

Now this sounds interesting.

If the story is good, and the game is well paced...then we don't need an open ended game. This sounds like it will be leagues better than TDK game.

Please let this hit my PS3 - Please!

Try doing a google thing on Rocksteady Studios and THIS turns up: Rocksteady Studios is an independent videogame developer based in North London, currently working on our latest FPS title for next-gen platforms.

FPS? and Bioshock is mentioned by GI? Holy! Shooter Batman!

So this isn't a Dark Knight video game? I don't care as long as we get a good Batman Game. I hope they release a trailer soon.

Oy, I hope it's not Batman: The Shooter. :whatever:

I swear that is the most overdone and overhyped genres to grace consoles right now. It's like the generic RPG craze of the 90's all over again. :csad:

FPS?....FPS???????

That would be FukTARDED. Shoot with what? His gauntlets?

If this is an FPS I will ignore it...like I'm gonna ignore Lego Batman and DC vs. MK...because I want a fukking Batman game that makes SENSE. A decent Batman game that is NOT made of legos or set in the MK universe or a damned First. Person. Shooter. !!!!

Auuugggh!

p.s. can someone do the math on that counter to give us a release date?

i HOPE I'm jumping to conclusions.

But I'm looking forward to Lego Batman. :csad:

Where did you guys get FPS? Relax. They said the setting would be dark and gritty like Bioshock's. They didn't mention anything about the type of game it'll be. I doubt it'll be a shooter.

EDIT: Actually...I can see where you probably got the FPS part. If you do a google search for Rocksteady, under the Rocksteady Studios Limited link that leads to the website with the Bat symbol Iron Stark posted, it says "Rocksteady Studios is an independent videogame developer based in North London, currently working on our latest FPS title for next-gen platforms".

If those are milliseconds in the countdown, then my conversion came out to 78.8 days which is October 29ish.

Porblem is...WHICH game?

I count three. There's this thread...which I thought was on the rumored TDK game, that Pandemic is supposedly on.

Then there was the rumored, and then ignored Eidos one...that now became official.

And then there's Lego Batman.

Wow.

Dunno if this was posted here yet....but this is my bid for keeping this thread, and the Arkham Asylum thread, seprate...since I guess this thread is supposed to be for TDK.

As it stands, nobody has commented officially on the specifics of the next Batman game. Hell, nobody has officially acknowledged that the game even exists. That doesn't mean we can't hear about it unofficially, however. So, courtesy of someone who's already played the game, let's look over the first details on what you can expect from it, and how it's shaping up.

Firstly, our source confirms Pandemic as the developers behind the title, though we pretty much knew that already.

Secondly, a good portion of the game is set in a GTA-style rendition of Gotham City, which plays a lot like Spiderman 2 as Batman zips around (he even gets a grappling hook for swingy-swingy when not using the Batmobile) attending to crimes.

And thirdly? As was first raised last week, it's not in the best shape, perhaps explaining why the project has been kept in the *ahem* dark for so long.

Seems the combat just doesn't work. Partly due to the game's wonky free-roaming camera system, partly due to the mashy hand-to-hand combat, partly due to the limited range of moves Batman has at his disposal, which makes the whole thing awfully repetitive. Which is a bit of a shame, though realistically, with no official announcement, let alone release date, there's plenty of time to fix that kind of stuff.

On a brighter note, another source tells us Pandemic have taken a few creative liberties with the game, and while it's based on The Dark Knight, the game's actually set after the events of the movie, which should at least be interesting from a story-telling perspective.

So can we expect them to fix this game and give it to us when it's ready?

Yeah, that's what the article is basically saying. That the game isn't cancelled, just still in development because it still needs fixing.

The game being based on the events AFTER The Dark Knight is an interesting note, too.

Well I hope so, I've been waiting for this to come out and expecting it with the release of the film in theaters but I guess not. Let's keep our fingers crossed. :csad:

Well...it is promising that they didn't rush it out.

I think if it's in development...it will come out. I can't see them scraping it now, espeically when you consider everything. Success of TDK, It being Batman...etc...
