Need of a Batman Next-Gen Game

It was delayed due to quality issues...for several months in fact. But the problem is, when it came out, what we got for our patience, is a game that was boring with a huge city and nothing to do. Plus repetetive enemies, bad controls, and a story that climaxed with a tornado as the final boss.

Like I said, this keeps reminding me that it could end up like that. :(

Well...it is promising that they didn't rush it out.

I think if it's in development...it will come out. I can't see them scraping it now, espeically when you consider everything. Success of TDK, It being Batman...etc...

Seriously...according to the Kotaku report the game seems pretty far along. Can you imagine all the money they will have blown (money invested and potential earnings) if they just cancelled it at this point?

Without an official announcement, let alone a release date, they've got plenty of freedom to tweak it to perfection from behind the curtain without worrying about public deadlines and scrutiny.

Besides, the frenzied anticipation and speculation surrounding the mystery of this game is probably higher than it would be if there was official confirmation and press coverage.

I can't think of any reason why they wouldn't eventually release a game at this point.

Here are some screenshots from Batman: Arkham Asylum (the Eidos game), and it looks amazing.

The last screenshot..either that´s Killer Croc, or Batman teams up with Marcus Phoenix to kick Locust´s butt :D

wooooooow it looks REALLY good.
I'm actually impressed. :)

I hope they don't screw this one up...
Batman trapped in Arkham, with Paul Dini writing. what more could you ask? ;D

well maybe for it to be fun, glitch free, and the pacing to be right...but thats besides the point. lol

it's very clear they've taken some inspiration from the dark knight.

the gloves have those knuckle brass looking things. he doesn't have those white eyes on the mask. and the look of the gaunlets are pretty close too.

plus the joker has his TDK smile. and the hair is pretty close to it as well.

Im not liking that it takes place only in Arkham Asylum. Doesnt seem to offer much variety

They have addressed this concern. Arkham is such a huge building that has been damaged and rebuilt so many times that it will have a bunch of different set pieces to play in.

The idea of sneaking around a huge, atmospheric island/prison filled with henchmen and scattered villains, sounds awesome. Like MGS with Batman.

yEah, there was already a shot of the underground remains of the old Arkham, so that in itself could at least double the size of the playable aboveground areas.
and I'm sure by the end of the game you'll be familiar with certain areas of the island that you will have to revisit multiple times. I actually love the idea, beats another Batman game with themed levels for each villain. Batman stuck on a island with all of his mortal enemies? I love it!

plus the joker has his TDK smile.

I don't know about that. Doesn't look very cut-up scarred-up to me, more like painted lips.

Yeah i thought Joker looked like Jack Nicholson with Heath's Smile.

Shouldn't we merge this fourm and Batman : Arkham Asylum

I don't think it'll end up like Superman Returns.

Just because of the release.

We have no idea where the game really is, since there's been no reports on hands-on...so it's entirely possible that the game isn't as repetitive as rumored.

Then again, there's no due date that we know of....so it doesn't have to be released with the DVD.

The Dark Knight videogame probably has the time that Superman Returns should have had to get right.

Sometimes when you poured enough money into something and it's not working, the best thing to do so as to not waste anymore money is to put it out of it's misery.

I applaud their decision if the game wasn't working. It's better than pushing out a crap game, and then having people start to moan and whine "EA always make horrible games!"

Yeah we still have Lego Batman and Batman Arkham Asylum.

Exactly.

On top of that, EA is actively trying to fix their reputation with gamers, and not pushing a subpar project out the door is showing that they are taking quality pretty seriously. I think it is great on their part to make a dicision like this.

Or...they could just take the time they need to not make a crap game. If they release a AAA quality free roam TDK game (that takes place after the events of the film...as rumored) they will make back their investment back a bazillion-fold, I don't care if it's released next Spring.

Fans deserve a serious Batman game...I say F that cutesy Lego b.s. And BTW, Arkham is not coming out for a FULL year:

I know Arkham is coming out in a year but it is serious Batman game from what i have read about it and the graphics look nice. It will be worth the wait, trust me.

The thing is you don't know what the game was like, and what problems they were having with it. What if the problems were such that they would have to go back to the drawing board and scrap the current project? The money lost would be huge.

Sometimes, putting something quietly to rest is the best course of action, whether you like it or not. I work in the financial field and see similar things occur everyday, I know what some companies have to go through in similar circumstances.

I see your point...however, based on the rumors, the game had combat and camera issues. Those are problems typical to many games and are fixable. The Kotaku report regarding the insider who played the game didn't indicate that the problems were beyond repair at all and implied that they could be solved given time.

Maybe the EA or WB suits are just trying to make a point..."See, we don't publish crappy movie tie-in games anymore! We cancel them!"

I find it interesting that this news comes a few days after the Arkham Game Informer hit the stands. Did the suits see it and get intimidated? What's the matter EA/WB...your balls drop off?

I do understand where they're coming from and the EA track record with tie-ins have been mediocre at best...but why not FIX the damn game??? Why not give the developers more time to turn out the perfect product? This thing will make big money even if it's released next Christmas! They're not gonna make a cent by canning it altogether. And could you imagine if they delayed the project as long as it took and released a game that was absolutely epic? EA's cred with licensed games would be instantaneously secured.

And Warner can afford to invest more money into this game...hell, the movie it's based on is the second highest grossing of all time!

Man, this is really depressing. When I first heard that Pandemic was making an open-world Dark Knight game I've not been able to stop thinking about the potential. A free-roam Batman title (done right) is an absolute dream game for a hell of a lot of people. We were this close...now it'll be years before something like this could ever see the light of day again (if ever). Sadly, for the forseeable future, the dawn is not coming.

You could be right about that actually. I wonder if they got intimidated due to Batman: AA, since that game looks awesome. Maybe they knew that their game in it's current state (Even fixed) wasn't up to the quality standards shown in the new game.

We'll probably never know though.
