Need of a Batman Next-Gen Game

Hulk: UD was a smash fest, almost utterly devoid of things like... story and character development. That works for the Hulk, because most bandwagon fans just want him to hit stuff... and that works for a videogame on a certain level. You can't do the same with Batman, because he has just plain old more facets of conflict than the Hulk does.

Well... I don't remember any of it... there was some church, and some guy there babbling. It all seemed pretty inconsequential at the time...

The Church was Banner's hideout. There was one mission there. It gave you access to the City and Desert.

The next Batman game better have a sandbox gameplay, it should also have the option to be a hero, vigilante or villain
and a storyline faithful to the comic books.

you cant really have the player choose to be a villain and still have a storyline faithful to the comic books. like. at all.

With a sandbox Batman game you wouldn't have to worry about the decision between good and evil, the amount of crap going on in Gotham City at all times (explosions, citizens in ditsress, supervillains up to no good) the real choices would lie in what to do, who to help, where to go and basically how to prioritize keeping the whole city safe at all times.
Also, if they ever did make an open-ended Batman game (which I HIGHLY doubt, unfortunately) I would hope they would give us the option of playing as Batman, Robin (tim), Nightwing or Batgirl, you know, the whole crazy rooftop running family.

You know, when I was playing Assassin's Creed I kept thinking that a modified version of that type of gameplay would work really well for Batman.

You know, I think the main reason we will never get the open-ended Batman game, the one with all the villains, the fully-explorable mansion and Batcave, the vehicles, the sidequests, is because it would be the end-all be-all Batman game. No one is ever going to buy a crappy movie adaptation game when they can just pop in Batman: Gotham Knights (the title I have given this pretend game in my head) and basically play forever.
It would be amazing, and probably sell really well, but it would shoot all future Batman games that didn't live up to this standard in the foot. Just my opinion....but it would be the greatest game ever, seriously.

Yea i can see where you are coming from, but i disagree. Thats like Hideo Kojima saying, 'well ill just make MGS4 only decent so MGS5 wont have re-invent the wheel to be successful'. Most of these dev's want to push out the best title they can.
Say your pretend Batman game comes out this yr, and in 3 yrs there is a new Batman film with a game to go along with it. Regardless of how good your Batman game was 3 yrs ago, ppl are gonna buy this new Batman game today, because its Batman and they need something 'fresh' from the character. Also, if the dev's push out the "end all be all" Batman game, then for the next one all they have to do is add some missing layers to it.

Yea those are some good points.

As for playing as other characters. Id like them to keep the focus on Batman himself. Id actually LOVE to see a game that so many of you keep talking about but set in Christopher Nolan's world, not a movie tie in, but keep with his vision.

That's a very good point, people will always want that new game, even if it turns out to be worse than the one that came before it...so um, which one of us is going to go to school to learn how to make videogames and then make the damn thing? I already thought up the title, so my contribution is made.:cwink:

Yea, that would be cool. Probably give them more leeway also.

It would be great to see a Batman game that had an origional viewpoint, like the Nolanverse, where the characters didn't have to look exactly like they did in TAS or the comics

they could've based a game on batman: gotham knight, since it's like a prequel to TDK. it could've came out before the movie so it pumped up the people who bought it, make them look forward to the movie.

Yea, thats a good point, altho i dont know of anything that could get me more pumped for The Dark Knight, hah. Im so f'ing stoked to see that film!

So, i guess we aren't getting a Dark Knight game? Maybe ive missed the announcement, but i haven't heard a peep.

Well i'm guessing that we aren't gonna get one then. I'm ok with that since most movie tie ins are sub par. Hopefully a comics based game is in the works though. It doesn't seem like it would be that hard to make it good.

i just picked up Lego: Indiana Jones. and cot-damn is it fun. i never really got in to Lego Star Wars, but this is hella fun and has got me hella stoked for Lego: Batman. i know. not exactly "Next-Gen" but looks pretty damn fun nonetheless. :o

i had a dream i saw a tv spot for the next-gen batman game, but it was only a dream...:csad:

If it pops up, it'll have to be when TDK dvd hits.

If it doesn't by then, then there's only two things it could mean.

1) No Batman game is being made.

2) We'll have to wait atleast another 2 years before we know anything for sure.

Why '2' years?

Because I think if it with a year to go, they'd start the hype.

Usually, games seem to begin getting hype when the release date is a year away. Now...that always changes, because they end up getting delayed..., but that's when it always seems that the hype machine begins.

I can't see them starting the hype now, if it's more than a year away. But, if they feel they need another two years of development...I can see it coming to light after a year or so.
