New Constantine Movie?

Nah I blame Johnson too. The whole sequel trilogy is something I'm not particularly a fan of.

If he's just producing, whatever then. And as long as it's not reduced to PG 13, I'm fine as well.

I'd like Matt Ryan to have a 100% proper shot at the character for a change, but since that's probably not gonna happen... Perhaps it's time to go back to my fan casting of Paul Bettany :

I’ve read a lot of the Hellblazer comics, and I still don’t mind Reeves’ take.

I liked the Keanu Reeves version - although it's difficult to change the character in such a fundamental way, as Constantine's speech and mannerisms are such an important part of his appeal - and those are derived from his origins as a Scouser ( from Liverpool).

Not a bad film, but not a great adaptation.

Paul Bettany is a pretty good fit , provided he can pull off the accent - which is very different from his received pronunciation.

I enjoy the Reeves film for what it is but I have no interest in seeing an American Constantine again. Also, if this film happens, can we finally title it “Hellblazer?” The next time I see a movie titled “Constantine,” it had better be a Ridley Scott epic about the Byzantine Empire.

I tend to say this a lot (maybe not on here but ) ; Keanustine is something I see as like an Elseworlds take on Hellblazer. It actually works really well when you look at it like that. They actually do pull a lot from the Dangerous Habits arc and Original Sins run.

That being said, I think the character deserves a full-on Hellblazer adaptation by now. I'm tired of these half assed versions.

at the very least, they should call it "John Constantine : The Hellblazer" or something :oldrazz:

Abrams is awesome, he doesn’t seem like a good fit for this though. Thankfully he’s just apparently producing. He should be directing Justice League or Superman.
I am all for him directing a Superman movie as long as someone else writes it. Since they wouldn't be using his Flyby script because I have no interest in seeing him just write an updated version of S:TM & SII which seems to be what he's doing these days. All he does now is remake old movies and just adds a little twist in it.

Lol, yeah that would be fine, as it is the full title of the original comic. I just don’t know why they’re so afraid of using “hell” in a title. I mean, Satan is a regular character so why shy away from it? Do they seriously think people will confuse it with Hellraiser? Unless a guy with pins in his face is in the trailer, I think people won’t get the two confused.

Tbf the better business move for WB is to get Keanu back instead of getting some new guy.

Since Colin Farrell will be buried under prosthetics for The Penguin, he can also play Constantine.

Keep Charlie Hunnam far, far away from this. I really enjoy the 2005 film but it's probably for the best that they start anew with a different actor.

My shortlist (other than Bettany) would probably go along like this , in no particular order :

- Joe Anderson
- Cillian Murphy
- Rhys Ifans
- Jude Law
- Tim Roth
- Aidan Gillen
- Rupert Grint (going a bit outside the box here, if you couldn't tell lol)
- James McAvoy (yes, I know he's voicing Dream in the Sandman audioplay alongside a Taron Egerton voiced John)

A lot of these choices depend on if they're going for an older or younger John. I'm fine with either or.

Of course, Ewan McGregor and David Thewlis already got wasted as throwaway villains in the DCEU, but I would've gone for them too. Thewlis' role in Mike Leigh's Naked is practically his audition tape for John, to the point where his name in the movie is literally Johnny lol

I've seen some people suggest Dan Stevens. I've only seen s1 of Legion and that wacky Eurovision movie, but I could see him looking the part. I might be open to it.

I love Keanu but I’ll be super disappointed to get him again instead of an actual Constantine movie.

Give me Mike Flanagan and Ewan McGregor. Go low key, actually haunting, make John a challenging and deeply flawed human being like he is in the best Hellblazer stories.

A Constantine movie should be a character piece first and foremost, hopefully with no influence from the absolute bastardization DC has subjected him too since Vertigo died.

Like I said, I want McGregor but they already kinda wasted him in BoP. Maybe they don't really care anymore idk lol

All that being said if Keanu played his Constantine in like a JL Dark movie or something that would be cool in its own way. There’s a lot of appeal in Keanu Reeves as a demon fighting magician he just absolutely is not John Constantine.

Isn’t it great how we had this collective moment of revelation a couple years back as film fans that Keanu Reeves is awesome?

If Ewan McGregor didn't play Black Mask in the DCEU, he would be perfect as Constantine
