New Constantine Movie?

I'm a big fan of Dan Stevens (loved the guest and even thought Stevens was one of the few good things in call of the wild) but I don't really see him as Constantine. Stevens is a bit too middle class to play the roguish working class Constantine imo.

Part of the core elements of the Constantine character for creator Alan Moore making him a working class warlock who was streetwise because most comic magical hero types were top hat and tails wealthy types according to Moore.

Joe Anderson or Joe Cole would be my top picks. Richard Dormer might work if they go older.

Well, there you have it. Can people finally stop saying “bring Keanu back” now? He was fine in the movie but let’s get an English Constantine this time.

My shortlist (other than Bettany) would probably go along like this , in no particular order :

- Joe Anderson
- Cillian Murphy
- Rhys Ifans
- Jude Law
- Tim Roth
- Aidan Gillen
- Rupert Grint (going a bit outside the box here, if you couldn't tell lol)
- James McAvoy (yes, I know he's voicing Dream in the Sandman audioplay alongside a Taron Egerton voiced John)

A lot of these choices depend on if they're going for an older or younger John. I'm fine with either or.

Of course, Ewan McGregor and David Thewlis already got wasted as throwaway villains in the DCEU, but I would've gone for them too. Thewlis' role in Mike Leigh's Naked is practically his audition tape for John, to the point where his name in the movie is literally Johnny lol

I've seen some people suggest Dan Stevens. I've only seen s1 of Legion and that wacky Eurovision movie, but I could see him looking the part. I might be open to it.

Out of this list for a DCEU Constantine...still sticking with Dan Stevens but out of this list I would go Rupert Grint because he needs a big role especially after the Harry Potter series and Constantine can do that for him

I find myself more and more in love with the idea.

Guys like Grint or Murphy could really capture that grumpy/cynical side and guys like Gillen can pull off that smart allecky trickster/conman side. And he looks fitting with blonde hair :

Grint still looks like he’s 12 years old. I’d rather have Tom Felton as Constantine because he looks like he’s aged 30 years in the last 10, lol.

All I ask is in the next adaptation, whatever it may be, they finally pronounce his ****ing name right.

I watched the little clip from that CW Crisis where John and Lucifer meet up and Lucifer actually says "Constantyne" and of course Matt Ryan had to say "uuuh, it's ConstanTEEN".

No the **** it's not

Just reading that made me unreasonably angry.

I’ve never seen Matt as Constantine. Is any of that stuff worth watching as a Hellblazer fan?

I think he's a great cast.

He's just constantly stuck with the wrong material.

The first half of the Constantine series is eh but the later half gets a bit darker and takes more from Hellblazer. They gradually add in the cigs more and more each episode, too.

The CW stuff can **** off. It's a tragedy he's seemingly stuck with it now

City of Demons is about as close as it gets to what he deserves, but of course, it's animated.

Give Grint a bit of scruff and he could pull it off

I guess I'm not opposed to the idea of Felton either, but something about Grint intrigues me more

I listened to the Sandman audiobook the other day. Taron Egerton does pretty well as Constantine. Do ya’ll think he could pull off a live action version? Seems a little young to me but I guess it depends on what stage in John’s life the movie is set in.

Also, that makes me wonder... will John show up in that Sandman TV series that is under development? I think they could (and should) avoid characters like J’onn J’onnz and Scott Free, but skipping Constantine would be disappointing.

Like I said I'd prefer McAvoy myself, but he voices Morpheus lol

Maybe Egerton could be Chas?

Oliver Jackson Cohen is perfect. A very good actor as well, see Haunting of Hill House.

I like the Dan Stevens casting too.

Still hoping for Farrell, even more so after the Penguin prosthetics.

Now there will have been two Constantine movies and neither of them will have had Constantine in them.

Keanustine is good once you look at it as an Elseworlds take on the character . I've probably already said this on this very thread, but I stand by that.

A sequel... Wouldn't exactly be what I want, but I wouldn't entirely be against it either. A majority of people are only familiar with that take on the character and only care for a continuation of it, hence the show lacking views and getting canned after one season and things of that nature. It's the more logical, profitable choice, no matter how much fans like you or I just want a fully proper version already . It is what it is....

Oh, for sure, I'm not mad. Keanu is great and at the height of his popularity so even though Constantine is a deeply mediocre, forgettable movie it isn't super shocking they'd go back to it.

If it has a whole new creative team and is more or less a soft reboot it has plenty of potential to be its own cool thing but it is still such a waste. You could make a great Hellblazer movie on such a small, low-risk budget, I feel like there's so much creative and box office potential there.
