I don't quite understand this - are you saying the lazy people search for answers themselves, or are you saying that people should be lazy and wait for others to solve it, then read about it on the wiki?
Everyone who starts on this board is a "newbie" at some time or another, but just because their post count is low does not mean they were just born today. A lot of people are just now starting to hear about this board, and coming by to see what it offers, and if what it offers is a bunch of resentment from "old-timers" who see this as "their turf" that is being defiled by new users, well, I would not blame them for not joining and only watching from the sidelines.

No, he's saying that people who registered here only because of the virals abuse the board when it comes to the games. All these people don't bother to read threads or post or do anything unless theres a big game and then we get a ridiculous amount of unnecessary posts and threads. We get "look at this puzzle I found!" five hours after its already been solved and "will i get swag?" from people we've never seen work on a puzzle before. Meanwhile, the rest of us are all trying to figure things out in between big games as well. And I guarantee that once the virals are over, little to none of these people will come back to this site, much less post here again. Thats fair reason to be angry, I'd say.
:bh:

Let's not forget some of these virals are hard for the average for people to lurk is natural. Not everyone can participate. I'm sure if these "Newbies" had something to offer they would.

I don't see why anyone should get "mad"

It's no different than checking out the pics thread and never posting; which I'm sure a good amount of people have done.

I understand how you feel...
But life isnt fair...thats what my mama always told me :oldrazz:

I guess when I just started out on the forums I didnt want to be called out in front of everyone for asking for a link or being called a noob for asking a "stupid question" so I waited and watched. Did the puzzles on m own ...and read every page of the thread before I asked.....

Its hard work being a noob..= ) don't you remember?

I'd agree with you, except that while we work hard trying to solve puzzles to progress the story and a chance at some swag, the people absuing this board are trying to ride on our coattails and get something without working for it.

I'd also normally agree with you, except that the people who come here during games only come here for that. They don't lurk and read the threads in between games or try and solve puzzles on their own. They only come when there's a game, which is why the Viral Marketing board "# viewing" count on the main Batman board page jumps from 40 something to 260 something during one of the carnival games.

And as for life not being fair, it most certainly isn't, but that doesnt mean people have to be happy about it.

=)

I hear what everybody is saying, but let's just drop it. There's no sense in getting upset at stuff like this, just enjoy it. If a few new people actually stick around, then that's cool. To expect that most will is foolish and I wouldn't ever want folks to feel like the HAVE to be CONSTANT contributors to these forums - let's just all chill and keep our eyes out for the next clue... BTW take a look at the MyHero thread - there's something (possibly) brewing there right now.

Well honestly the only thing that gets me is the lag that happens. Everytime I tried to post or refresh I would get booted from the boards. But hey what are you gonna do.

If you don't want them to get the swag then you gotta beat them to it. Just that simple.

ssx3master thank you for translating what I meant to the people who I guess couldn't understand it :cwink:

I guess that I wouldn't anticipate you to understand it

I am not making a blanket statement on all of the new people here. I was referring to the people who show up when something new with the game occurs, doesn't contribute and clogs up the board with the "what's happening?" BS because they were too lazy to take the time to read the first post of the thread, or scan the thread to get up to date.

My pet peeve is the *****ing and complaining because they didn't get something out of the game. Which seems to be 60% of a thread once the viral offers swag and only a select few get it. I just don't understand it since 99% of this viral game has been free. Fuel consumption or travel costs (taxi, subway, etc.) for the scavenger hunts is the only costs that has occurred with the game. And those costs were at the discretion of the user.

It just boils down to greed and laziness.

You must have a hard time understanding what I post. And read into MUCH further than you need to

I understand completely what you are saying, and what you continue to say in 90% of your posts. I too have a problem with people coming onto here just to complain that they haven't gotten an email from Jim Gordon, or their Times has not shown up, or what is going on, or complaining that there are a bunch of noobs on the boards. But just posting to say that there are a bunch of noobs on here does not help advance the game any at all, so I wish you would quit doing it. Hopefully that is clear enough to you.

LMFAO, keyboard courage is such a fun spectacle.

And no, 1117 of my posts have not been about newbs on here *****ing....:cwink:

I suggest we not turn this thread into a flame war and just step away and solve puzzles in other threads.

The way I see it, playing these viral games and solving the puzzles is the reward in itself! We're lucky that we are getting something like this at all. So I couldn't really care for any "swag"... (plus being in England I don't expect any either!)

Agreed. I would love to get all the swag, but I have plenty of fun just being part of this. In fact, I get angry not for not getting swag, but for missing a new game/site because I had to go to school or work.

the ironic thing is that the discussion in question was actually more advanced than the flamers' understanding, not less.

what we're trying out is the chance that the joker's two messages yeild two different clues. So, we de-maze the texts in some way, then apply the known symbol alphabet to the result.

Can we get a break down of what defines a newbie?

Just wanting to make sure I'm safe.. lol

Yeah.. I tried to say that but it got lost in the shuffle. ;)

Good luck to those of you still playing with it. It would be interesting if there's more.

umm...why does no-one read the wiki? this has all been done
Actually, I feel bad for him because he went through all this trouble of solving it when it turned out it had been solved already!

The Wiki is really here for all of you - it's something I would keep for myself because I like having a record of these things, but the fact that it keeps everyone up to date so we can all be current with what's going on is great. :yay:

Well, first off....there has been and still is a HUGE influx of newbies just for the game. Alot of them don't seem to know that the wiki is there. Secondly, I think that it just boils down to laziness and people's inept ability to be patient and search for an answer themselves.
Sometimes it can be frustrating because the boards lag, but yes....there are a bunch of us trying to keep the Wiki as up to date as possible, so when the boards go down, that probably should be the first place you look.

It also seems that a lot of new posters don't know about the Wiki, but more than a few posters here have the link in their signatures. Still, I wouldn't count on everyone being as observant as me. :hehe:

Hey, that's what I do, but then I update the Wiki when someone solves it, so I guess that's my contribution. :oldrazz:

I'm still so very proud of my Steprightup moment.

I think people here have been very generous with their swag - that's what the swapping thread is for. :yay: But when everyone's deep in puzzle-solving, patience is thin and everyone's on edge. I've caught myself in some :o moods, and I've got to remember that not everyone is caught up 100% of the time...

thanks ...thats cute:meow:
the collection of all the virals is great totally agreed...i knew about...just didnt thought of:-(
keep it going!!!!:-)

I hope there is something, a book , dvd in the Collectors Edition of The Dark Knight, that really goes into all this viral marketing. I'm impressed by what these guys have come up with and the depths of some of these games. I mean, I have issues trying to figure out a cypher let alone creating one. Nice work 42E!

i STILL dont know where that cypher came from to crack the pictogram puzzle...was it in the hahahatimes?

I think there are programs (online? I dunno, I haven't checked) where you can enter in a code and it will spit out the substitution cypher for you.

Or it was by trial-and-error. It's not impossible that way, just time-consuming. :oldrazz:

:oldrazz:

:funny: at Keira's face.

You wish it did. :oldrazz: Sometimes it's actually easier to work with cutouts.

I think in a bit, I'll try and pursue this, in Photoshop. That prolly means I'll have to save each quadrant into 21 separate files and start dragging things around. :o

See, I don't even have cutouts, I have Seashore and Gimp, which are great for making stuff in, but moving separate layer is a big hassle.

I guess I am still considered a noob but I read all of the new posts in every thread several times a day. I just don't want to post unnessecary messages if I can help it.

As far as this puzzle goes, I have printed and cut up tons of these little squares and everything I have come up with is a stretch to say the least. I'm not saying there isn't anything, I'm just saying I haven't found it.

Keep up the good work everyone.

The puzzle has been solved.
