Shredder definitely needs to be played by a Japanese actor. Doesn't have to be a big name over here like Watanabe, but could be a popular actor in Japan who has done some good work. It probably would be more authentic if he has the Japanese accent.

Oh Michael Bay will work his magic on this one. He will find a way in

Just like with Nightmare on Elm St.
What a horrible casting job he did a producer on that one. Mara? Haley? all of em.

Anyways, Good to see Mr. Laird eat crow now that more information has come out. He can word it anyway he wants but the logic was to wait and see and he started out fine enough with his sarcasm but then he clarified and now he, like many a fan boy realize there's more going on then a blanket statement.
I suggest he sends a letter to his co-creator to find out the real story. It's also funny to hear him diss the series fan boys hold most dear. Strange.

In a good movie, Kitsch would have been a good jones.

Laird is far from eating crow, at least according to his new interview up on ************** . If anything he's being even clearer on his discontent for the project. And Nightmare on Elmstreet was pretty bad, and regardless of who the cast was . As usual in Hollywood ,the original was better , and it wasn't as if the original was a masterpiece itself.

Bay knows how to make money, but to make good films,...not so much. But you know what, this is TMNT so the most you can hope for is a good time and lots of good action pieces and FX.

You missed my point. I wasn't talking about a good film making, what ever that is. (Bay makes fun summer fair but is cited as failing to make dramas. See reviews for 21 jump street to see the reverse of this in action).

I was talking about what happens to the cast when bay produces and i pointed to Nightmare. People might think the film worse then the original(both crappy to me) but last I checked Mara is an Oscar nominated actress was she not? Who's to say April won't be the same?

Laird is eating crow because, he made a statement on a hunch and its come to light that said hunch was wrong. There's more to the story and people need to wait and see before anything. Bay himself said take a chill pill, and wait and see. The truth is Laird had waited till this very week to speak up he would have sang a slightly different tune. Lesson of the day...obvious really.

I won't be mad is Oroku Saki is not in the film as the Turtles have plenty of villains they can go up against and I am quite sick of him to be honest.

I'm hoping for something else! Especially since I am a very big fan of the Mirage comics and that Shredder has already been filmed.

Well, to my mind, Rooney Mara wasn't very good in this film. She killed it in Dragon Tattoo but otherwise brought nothing to Elm Street that I'm sure another actress couldn't. She felt interchangeable.

And in all honesty, Haley's Freddy just wasn't that effective, either. I always felt he was a "prestige" name brought in to lend the film credibility, but he's far creepier to me without the glove and burns (Little Children).

Also -- and this could just be how your posts read -- but there seems to be a really condescending tone from you, like you're personally offended by the "fan boys'" reaction. Again, that might not be your intention and I'm not stating for a fact that is your angle, just that to my eyes it's beginning to read that way. Anyhow, nothing personal, and clearly nothing is that serious on this board, so back to the speculation :woot:

I know the dude is probably typecast like a mother****er but I would not gripe if Ackles got offered the CJ role.

I'd honestly just love for them to recast Chris Evans to be Casey again. I know it'll never happen, yet I can dream.

I wouldn't mind some cameos from actors of the old films.

Seeing as there seems to be a universal knee-jerk assumption that this movie will suck; I'm calling it: It will rule.

As a general rule when I see hoards of fans trying to explain something away, praying and hoping it'll turn out the way they wish (Deadpool, for example) it generally turns out to be an abomination. Perhaps this same principle will prove to work in the opposite direction. Especially since it seems the media/fans are grasping at anything to cry wolf about.

Still calling them Ninja Turtles could mean taking out the Teenage and Mutant part of the mythos. You never know with Bay.

You don't know with Bay, but you do with Eastman, who, to my knowledge has always been far more conservative with his ideas concerning the franchise than Laird ever was.

You have to think like Michael Bay. So hot young model that things she can be a good actress for April

God forbid we have an attractive April O'Neil this time out. :)

Actually, it's been so long since I saw the Turtles sequels that I forgot she was replaced.

What might be cool is to see April start as a sort of a freelance journalist/blogger who is working on the various turtle/alien/Foot stories, and ends up making a name for herself. Basically what JJ Abrams wanted to do with Lois Lane in his SUPERMAN script.

Perhaps they are reffering to the idea that the Turltes were created by alien technology. In the comics it was revealed that the aliens, called Ultroms (http://www.comicvine.com/utroms/65-49937/) came to Earth and were secretly living among humans. They own some factory and one of their supply trucks nearly crashed and spilled the green ooze on the turtles and that is what turned them into the Mutant teenagers they are.
I would be fine if they showed that as their origin. But not if they came to Earth in a spaceship and were teenage aliens.

My intentions are harmless as always, my tone however is proportional to the tone of the forums I post in. This past week this particular forum has brought out my sarcastic side.

As for the casting, again. The film was what it was, but to objectively look at the casting of the leads alone it was strong. It would be as if they cast Judi Dench herself but she sucked in the overall production.

I want April to be brunette this time. I'd love to see Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

And that's the weird thing, because you're right -- they're both very good actors -- but, can we really call it strong casting if an actor is miscast? Isn't that every bit as much a misstep as casting a terrible actor?

At any rate, I'm more than happy to wait and see. I don't want any film to suck -- that's just counterproductive as a movie fan -- and that attitude can be self-fulfilling, convincing yourself of a movie's worth beforehand and then having to stick to that narrative just to not be wrong.

I can't say I have a lot of faith in the folks involved, but, "past performance does not indicate future results". So we'll see. I hope it turns out great.

I really like Mary Elizabeth Winstead. I would support her as April.

I'm much more interested in seeing what a photo-real Ninja Turtle will look like. That initial test-footage reveal should be something :)

Edit: other than Donny's weird drooping-beak, I actually like the design of the turtles from TMNT 2. Would be equally curious to see what they could do with modern animatronics and CGI blending. Wonder if they'll at least try a few tests with men-in-suits...
