I'm trying really, really hard to stay positive here. Really, really hard.

I guess its because I see this film differently than most, but I find it very easy to stay positive.

Those unanimously positive reports from those who visited the set gave me alot of hope and eased by worries.

The director did Battle:LA and Wrath of the Titans, I'm not expecting anything deep and profound in Ninja Turtle5... I'm just hoping it's an entertaining movie and the characters are still in-character

You mean journalists that were invited to the set were they can see all these impressive sights of scenes being filmed and motion capture stuff and treated like royalty were they may have chatted to some of the creators about how everyone is a "big fan" and how "fans will love it" etc

That's one of the biggest alarm bells about this movie. We have little more than "it's gonna be good...honest" from everyone including the creators whose credibility is sketchy at best. The only thing we have is that they've altered an aspect that the vast majority thought was stupid. Other than that we don't have anything other that "it'll be good...honest" to hype us.

To me, Eastman and the journalists sound like Moe on "The Simpsons."

"Oh good! My laundry is done."

I mean maybe they are being sincerely honest that the movie will be good and be what every Turtle fan wants, but the bad outweighs the good so far as I'm concerned, but I am only one man, one fan, and I only have my opinion on what I know so far.

Now, I still would like to read the Bay script if anyone has it and would want to PM it to me. I know I've made some caustic remarks about the production of this movie and its choices, but I only do so because I really want it to be good. I really want it to be as good as the first live-action Turtles movie or better. I want to be entertained and not feel cheated. I'm REALLY trying to stay positive about this movie but at the same time I'm feeling like it's going to get sodomized by shifty Hollywood types who only care about filling their pockets than about the source material and fans. I think any fan can attest to the same feelings when something comes along with a beloved character of theirs and goes, "WTF?!?"

But you can blame people for being skeptical. For me, it's not worth even have any expectations until the first trailer. Or even the first image of the Turtles. That right there will be the deal breaker for me.

I guess I am just less precious about the Turtles than I used to be. It's a beloved part of my childhood, but nothing will replace the first movie for me no matter how good it is. I'm willing to just wait and see how this pans out, and I'm willing for the movie to take the property in some unconventional directions. As long as the personalities of each turtle, Splinter and April are intact, I can probably work with it.

And even if this movie ends up being a "ridiculous but fun" guilty pleasure kind of movie (like I consider the first Transformers), I'll probably be willing to accept it on those terms too.

I really haven't kept up with what any of the reports were saying. But I guess it's basically the Turtles look great and action will be badass? That's like the only thing I never doubted. It's everything else that has me worried.

If the WETA turtles look good, I'll probably be more forgiving. I'm bugged by the Shredder alterations, and Fichtner being cast is the ONLY thing not angering me more.

ILM is doing the effects for the Turtles.

BTW, to clarify what I said about ILM working on TMNT, both ILM and Weta Digital are working on the movie. So, it'll be a joint effort like they did on The Avengers, as well as a few other films.

Particularly "The Avengers" though, in which the Hulk was achieved via a collaborative effort between the two FX companies.

So considering that work on the turtles' (and presumably Splinter and, if they're still featured, Bebop and Rocksteady) cg models began months ago, we should be seeing some top notch cgi.

In regards to the changes made to Shredder, Between Batman Begins, Ironman 3 and Star Trek Into Darkenss, you guys should know by now to NOT put too much stock into who they SAY is the villain, and who actually is.

If there are any twists like that, I think it might have something to do with Karai being the real Shredder. And I'd be cool with that.

Sure. Giving Eric Sachs favours in exchange for him being the figurehead leading her Foot clan.

Can we not whitewash a character just to contribute to an incredibly cliche "twist" please?

Didn't care for it at all in IM3 because Ben Kingsley's Mandarin was freaking awesome(even though Ben Kingsley isn't Asian, jesus what is it with Hollywood and Asian characters). But, then again, the Mandarin's mother in his original origin was a white English lady. So it'd still make SOME sense for Ben Kingsley to be The Mandarin...if it wasn't for that dumbass "twist." But nope. Blonde, tan, rich white guy with dragon tattoos.

I'll forgive Begins because at the VERY least Liam Neeson LOOKED like a great Ra's Al Ghul(short of being Arab) and he's also a fantastic actor.

But, as good as Fichtner is, he's no Liam Neeson.

To be completely unoriginal, it could have gone to Ken Watanabe. He's japanese AND a great actor.

Or, if you just wanted an asian guy who's also a more than decent character actor, why not Daniel Dae Kim?

There were options, but they decided to screw up a character in the name of (crappy)"originality" or for the sake of some tired, cliched twist that people are honestly getting sick of. Or some other third poorly rationalized option for not making the asian character The Shredder asian.

That's not the route I want it to go either, but it's much much better than the alternative, the idea of a Shredder being an American man named Eric who undergoes a mutation or transformation to become the Shredder.

Is Karai even confirmed for this movie? I honestly don't know.

.

Just to clear things up.... Ben Kingsley is of Asian decent.

Who was the supposed villian in Batman Begins outside of Ras?
