New Mutants New Mutants News and Discussion - Part 2

Yeah because Dark PhoeniX made so much money in theaters, let them earn more cash by sending this to theaters as well, instead of a streaming site. Great business decision.
Dark Phoenix cost Disney zero dollars so every cent was profit. On top of that, Disney was able to use it as an accounting loss and got a tax write off in addition to the money they made. Finally, they were able to publicly throw it under the bus since it wasn't their movie, which helped distract the news from their own underperforming films (to the extent they care about that). I'm sure they would tell the public it was a disappointment, but I can't see how they say that privately (assuming they care enough about the project to still talk about it much).

it's not like it had serious connection with other xmen. lol
It clearly ignored the Sunspot in dofp which i don't mind. But yeah.

This movie like the last few Marvel films from foX, they were all just doing their own thing.

With the success of R rated Joker, will Marvel consider a Theatrical release of R rated New Mutants ? Also, it's worth remembering that other r rated movies like Logan and Deadpool have been successful at Box Office.

Hellboy I don't think really had a lot going for it distribution wise with Millenium Films mainly focusing on the Domestic market... Dark Phoenix had the marketing pull and reach but no muscle behind it. It could've made significantly more if it wasn't butchered in post-production and essentially ignored post-purchase. The film garnered a lot of negative buzz as MCU film popularity has risen and the rights reverting to Marvel created a lot media attention and subsequent aversion to anything Fox especially Marvel related.

New Mutants I've changed my mind on and am just going to say release it on streaming. It's just not going to pull the numbers and cost a lot to distribute and market on the scale that would be expected to recoup money on this. The theatrical market is a very thin window of success and online attitudes and trends essentially negate this movie at this point in time...

A limited release I think would be cool though. If Disney could actually try and make something out of this that would be interesting... It's not even connected to the core X-Men franchise movie wise and even though a different tonality than an MCU movie could maybe work to experiment with the OTT market.

teaser trailer was great. this one would've been great this halloween 2019. Definitely will be watching Adams Family when I get a chance though!

Say this movie actually takes off and turns into a hit, what would become of the plan for mutants in the MCU?

I doubt Feige would consider this MCU canon.

so according to them(twitter influencer, bloggers, hero website)

the original cut was fox's vision and not the josh.
josh wanted more dark and horror and that was original reshoot plan.
kingerg was going to do reshoot but reshoot got canceled.
now Marvel gave it to josh for recut and added little marvel flavor.
I guess that marvelness is family friendly, less dark edit. but josh is in charge and happy.

something ain't right, anyway conclusion it's less dark/horror than original cut but more fun and better movie?

I was just realising a couple of days ago that we had zero news since the third delay and thinking it could mean another one was to take place until I saw the tweet. I guess that's kind of confirmation it is moving forward again but I'll wait and see first, after all this history of postponments.

Why is Boone reportedly happy with the product again? What has changed? Reshoots didn't take place.

My guess is Disney/Marvel let him have control of his film again after Fox/Kinberg were trying to take it from him to rework things.

Yeah but meaning what exactly? How much could he be able to change in post production and editing alone if (like it was said) he wasn't happy with the movie he ended up filming?

I think he liked his product from the sounds of it. It sounds like he made a young adult film with horror elements. But fox being fox did what they do best and intervene.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a report of negative test screenings.

Kinberg doing reshoots would have been the worst decision they could have made.

My understanding is that Boone wanted this to be much more of a horror film initially but FOX insisted on a young adult one with few horror elements and that's how it turned out to be. The reshoots that never took place were to bring it more to his original vision after the studio saw what a big success the first IT movie was and after possibly being dissatisfied with the end results. So either my understanding on the development is wrong or there something that I'm missing here.

yeah. some stories don't make sense and narrative changing..lol
anyway, hopefully it can get released theater or hulu or anything.
and we get to hear behind story mess which seems like more interesting than movie itself.
