New Mutants New Mutants News and Discussion - Part 2

Yeah this is obviously a boX office juggernaut in the making. It doesn't change the fact that its been delayed two years from its original release date... after A trailer is released and it has only hurt the film tremendously. Winner - it is not.
Who cares tho.
We don't get any of the money anyway and I think we all knew it wouldn't get a sequel once Disney bought FOX
Really? You are gonna say who cares though in a movie forum you've been posting.

Okay lets have plenty of movies flop. Who cares, right?

But it doesn't change the fact that version of characters is gone whether it makes money or it flops. Even if it was by some miracle a massive hit they wouldn't continue with a horror based property connected to their family friendly universe so none of that affects us audience.

Realistically I don't think anyone would expect Disney to prioritise New Mutants in the forseeable future even if this movie never existed and we all know once the X-Men enter the MCU they are going to be fine despite the box office decline in the last couple of films. What's the worst thing that can happen to the brand? Not hit a billion bucks in the next mutant movie and reaching that amount in one or two after that like it happened with Spider-Man? I think some of you are making out to be much bigger deal than it actually is for the studio.

Actually read what I said. I said who cares in reference to the box office and I listed reasons why. No one said this was going to be a box office juggernaut. Relax

Is something wrong with you? Why do you have such a thing for this movie? Before when it looked like this wouldn't come out at all and slugzilla was promoting his nonsense you believed and championed every negative thing that was alleged. Then recently when it seems like this might come out, you said you hope it goes to streaming for some weird reason (it's not like anyone is forcing you to watch it). And now when it seems like it might be going to theaters, you keep bringing up the box office and how it'll flop when no one else really cares about it.
It's just weird.

Things don't have to be kumbaya, everyone holds hands and agrees. But you're not even constructive with your dislike of the move. It's a slight level above trolling, if it's not overtly that. It made it so for a while we couldn't discuss anything about the movie in this thread because of you and a few members were just being annoying. I just don't get why complain and bring down the thread for everyone else. It's just sad, annoying, and immature.

I Wonder because of the budget what happens if this movie become a huge success, would sequel still be planned in spite of the X-Men coming to the MCU?

Huge success after the Dark PhoeniX debacle? If anything, Disney only helped New Mutants' demise for delaying it 2 years from its original release date. What studio would really delay a movie (that already released a trailer) based on Marvel characters this long, if it is that good? That doesn't make sense. Disney isn't even bothering with reshoots and just letting Boone go ahead with his "vision". Whatever that is.

Why do you care so much if you think it's already doomed to fail? Disney won't continue the series whether it's it's succe or not, and it won't effect the reboot as all Marvel have to do is throw a Black Panther/ Captain Marvel cameo in to show it's connected and people will go to the reboot in their droves.

You have never wanted this movie so why still keep going on about it. Move on.

I do think there is concern from some fans that this movie could potentially do further damage to the X-Men brand after the Dark Phoenix pretty much embarrassingly bombed. Another black eye for the brand commercially (and possibly critically) could further make Marvel gun shy about trying their hand at Mutants. So in their view, it doesn’t make sense for Disney to take a risk on releasing a troubled movie in theaters when the smarter, less expensive decision would be to just release it on a streaming platform.

Not to mention, the movie has delayed so much it’s become kind of a running gag in online circles that this movie is only going keep getting delayed and never actually is going to get released.

These concerns are understandable, but the reality is as soon as the Fox merger went through the question as to whether the movie was going to be a hit or not became quite irrelevant because as others have pointed out before: Marvel Studios was never going to make a sequel to this and even if this movie flops it won’t really impact the timetable for Marvel to reboot the Mutants since they were always going wait a while.

Whatever happens with New Mutants — whether it bombs or becomes a modest success it won’t really do any damage to the brand at all. Unlike DP this movie was much cheaper to make and they definitely made the right move not to do reshoots in order to avoid unnecessarily inflating the budget. This movie will be released, and then promptly forgotten about. If it’s good, then it’s good if it’s bad it’s bad — however regardless of how the movie does it won’t affect the MCU’s ability to do the Mutants one way or the other. Disney won’t do much promotion for this movie, and the movie will be nothing more than a blip in most people’s radar at the end of the day. This movie was always going to be more niche than DP was, it’s much cheaper to make, and as long as they don’t spend any more money on reshoots there’s a chance this movie can be profitable.

If one looks at what movies come before it and what movies come after and at the same time as its release, one would realize how much Disney doesn’t care for it. Fact that Disney’s own major release Mulan will come out just the week before only goes to show the Big Mouse has all the faith in the world this movie will be a non factor.

if there is no more delay, then it will be a movie dumped on semi wide release and be quickly forgotten and written off; if it manages miraculously do well against all odds —A Quiet Place (a horror movie with lot more buzzes), James Bond and Peter Rabbit (while Disney’s own Black Widow isn’t that far behind), then more screens could be added. I don’t see it though.

if this movie doesn’t make a loss at then end of the day, I think Disney will see it as an absolute win, anything more than that is cherry on a cake.

The X-Men brand is fine. Once it's in the MCU proper, no fan will really care about how horrible the last few movies were.

Seems like Kinberg’s ideas and plans were total crap. Go figure since he had absolutely no idea on how to handle the X-verse in general. I am glad Disney is kicking his ass out. Kinberg is almost solely responsible for how crap the FoxVerse became; **** useless hack.

Given that Disney is allowing Boone to run with his original take is a good sign and refreshing. Disney/marvel I think are taking a different tone/approach with their next phase which I think will be terrific. Eternals, Wandavision, Dr Strange 2 being more horror, Shang Chi, and Blade. These all look like they will be quite different, bolder, riskier and more innovative from what some consider the formulaic too jokey MCU take of phase 1-3.

so I guess original cut was josh boon's vision but fox hated, and this new edited cut is the one both josh and disney like.
I wonder how much are edited and changed. I think saw some saying on twitter, some scenes were removed in this new version.
