New Mutants New Mutants News and Discussion - Part 2

If the Arrowverse or Marvel/Netflix shows or Watchmen are any indication, it's that there's a clear advantage to telling long form stories for comic book shows or television on a streaming platform. There'll always be an appetite for big budget special effects and story telling on the big screen and there are stories to tell in movie form, yes.

But as far as crafting an ongoing narrative that lets you connect to characters on a deeper level, coupled with not having to spend as much money on the budget unless you're getting really experimental or doing crazy stuff like on a Legion or Doom Patrol or Preacher, television is where it's at right now.

It depends on the character though.

I think all the Marvel Netflix shows, even the ones I liked, all suffered due to their format.

I don't think I want to see a show like Legixn ever again. They literally just adapted 3 comic book characters in a span of 3 seasons. Talk about making out the best of your comic book catalogue. It was also confusing.

Someone help me out, the hospital the kids are in, is this still supposed to be

Mister Sinister's hospital?

much better than teaser. and there are lots of positive reactions and interest.
the vfx on some scenes are not great great but understandable considering budget.

The horror vibe is interesting. It does indeed feel like something different which is always very welcome especially in this MCU and DCEU era of shared universes and formulaic movies. The effects look terrible though. It has a cheap feeling at times that's more suitable for a TV show. I definitely liked the first teaser more but I'm glad it's finally coming so we'll see what all this trouble was about.

I think it looks good but I thought the teaser was cool too so . I’m really interested in the horror angle but at this point, I feel like the movie itself is just going to be mediocre. Not as bad as the delays might make it look like, but also definitely not a gem misunderstood by the studio executives. I’m just happy we get to see the movie at least. Would’ve been a bummer if the movie had just been shelved forever.

Well Disney isn't gonna accept subpar vfx from Fox anymore after this

Wow I actually liked that trailer a lot more than I was expecting, so I'm definitely seeing this in a theater. I think the teaser was still a bit more effective, but I am loving the horror vibe, and I'm glad they are still advertising it as a superhero horror film. All the power displays looked great IMO too.

This is a huge stretch when I say this, and it hardly counts because they're not MCU-proper and on TV, but I think that Daredevil and at least the first season of Jessica Jones did help broaden things as far as adaptations on television. But again, since that's Marvel/Netflix and not Marvel Studios proper, I could just as easily take that back since those may not count as much.

Oh, definitely. I was talking about the Marvel Studios productions.

I think it looks great, and I love the cast. I'm already sad we won't get a sequel with them & Anya Taylor Joy looks amazing as Magik. She's excellent casting and I'd love if the MCU stole her with some kind of multiverse bs.

For a moment there I thought it said "Warlock" instead of "Lockheed". That's cool tho! I think Lockheed was in the movie animatic way back when, right?

Edit: Yup, he was.

I kind of wish they didn't give Sunspot his fire powers. I recognize he eventually got them but they weren't part of his original powerset. Also, I obviously wish they cast an actor of African ancestry.

That being said, if they are good actors, I'll be happy and curious what this.movie will end up being like.

It's a blip anyway you cut it, but yeah, definitely curious based on the good young cast and the trailer being pretty decent minus the shoddy FX work.

I was certainly expecting less with this being a Kinberg production. The real Last Stand.

I only just now remembered those early rumors that Wolfsbane is gay in this movie, though I'm not 100% sure they mentioned Mirage... I think they did. Not too far-fetched with some of the shots in this trailer actually. I mean look at 2:07 and the framing at 1:30-1:31 for example. It doesn't have to mean anything, but...

Isn't Sunspot Latino though? Casting seems spot on to me...
