Next time they should go with free roam.

Ok, here are some of my ideas:

Combat: The way it was done in Batman begins was pretty good, but there was barely any variety. I say there should be three fighting styles you can choose from: Regular fighting style, which is basically some straightfoward streetfighting style mixed with Batman style fighting. The second style would be something like Akido or Kung Fu, and the third would be keysi or something. Each style would have a special move like in Batman Vengeance. also, Batman's movements shouldnt be cartoony.

Environments: Environments should be completely destructable. i didnt like it in Begins where you can only use certain objects to raise everyone's fear meter. you should be able to take out lights with your Batarang, windows, etc. There should be options of how you want to create fear.

Body Armor: What irks me about the BB game is, is that in the movie he's wearing body armor, but in the game he can get killed by like three bullets. Since Batman wears Kevlar in the comics, there should be a meter with how much armor you have. The more damage thats done to you, the more this meter goes down. when your armor meter's down, you're not protected from bullets.

Batmobile: IMO, I dont think it should be used that much while you're free roaming, only during the main story. The Batmobile system will work like Need For Speed and Burnout.

Grappling and Gliding: I dont think Grappling around the city will work. With Spider-man, he repeatedly shoots weblines. with Bats, he only has one grapple. Grapple's should be used like they were in BB, to get you to high buildings. The main mode of transportation around Gotham would be gliding, like in BB the movie.

Bosses:In most games, especially comic ones, the hero usually has a boss battle. I dont think that can work with Batman. Most of Batman's villains cant engage him in hand to hand combat. The main challenge instead would be to solve the plot of the villain. Instead of fighting Joker, you have to stop his insane plot to gas gotham. With Penguin, you have to stop him from stealing some priceless bird. However, with some Villains like Bane, Killer Croc, or Ras Al Ghul, you'll engage them in combat.

Finding Trouble: Certain places in gotham will have a certain amount of trouble, as well as a different kind of trouble. Let's say if your in Uptown gotham, with all the rich folk, you'll see alot of robberies where thieves will be robbing some penthouse. If you're in Gotham's Financial district, where Wayne Enterprises will be, you'll see crimes such as coporate sabotage. If you go to gotham's waterfront, you'll find alot of snitches and mob bosses. Places like Park Row and the East End will have the highest amount of crime. Murder, Rape, Muggings, More Robberies, Hits, Dead bodies, etc. Also, while you're in park row and you're injured, you can find Dr. Thompkins, and she'll fix you up

Reputation: Throughout the game, you can increase your reputation. Unlike BB where you have to build it up again after a different level, you're rep stays with you the entire game. you dont have to do stealth, but it'll be hard to up your rep. You're is determined by how stealthy you are and the strategies you use while playing the game.

Gadgets: In this game, you'll have Batman's most popular Gadgets at you disposal. You can use the Batarang to knock things over, or to knock and enemy unconcious. Here's my list of gadgets for the game:

*Batarangs
*Smoke Grenades
*Flash Bangs
*Bat Bolas
*Night Vision Goggles
*Infared Vision
*Electrical Batarangs
*Razor Batarangs
*Bat Device(Used in Year One and BB, but its use will be limited)
*Grappling Hook
*Gas Pellets
*Flashlight
*Universal tool
*Mini Computer
*Optical Cable

I even figured out a control system:

Triangle: Action/Multi Purpose

Square: Punch

Circle:Kick

X: Jumping/Gliding

L1: Gadget Select

L2: Initiate Gliding/Grappling

R1: Use Gadget

R2: Fighting Style Select/Blocking(Hold R2)

D-PAD Up/Down: Night Vision Goggles/Infrared

D-PAD Left/Right: Select Target/Objects

Select: Call Alfred/Summon Batmobile

L3: Enter/Exit Stealth mode

Right Control Stick: Camera Control

Left Control Stick: Move

Start: Pause Game/Access Pause Menu/View Mission Information, Notes and Controls

As for Costumes, you'll get to choose a number of outfits Batman's worn in the Comics:

Blue & Gray:

Black and Gray:

Dark Gray and Black W/ Oval:

There should be an option for customizing your costumes, something you unlock. And maybe something of the same for the Batmobile, similar to the Hush issue where there were dozens of vehicles.

What about the idea of Bruce Wayne training to gain more strength? Let's say after a mission he's injured, so while in the cave recuperating, he can lift weights, stretch and do cardio to build the strength back up. To make it even more exciting, you could have flashback sequences that help Bruce boost his power, such as thinking about when Kirigi, Ducard, Richard Dragon or even David Cain trained him. At the same time, we'd see cameos of these people which would be a great addition.

Someone had mentioned earlier about having Bruce Wayne during the day getting information. That would be cool. I was thinking maybe certain decisions he makes could lead to other parts of the game, such as social events, the women he chooses to date. And at social events, when he sees an enemy like Falcone, maybe a warning can go off in his head. Also, let's say in the beginning of the game, Batman can only grapple through his city. Like in Batman Begins, Bruce has to secure equipment and prototypes from Wayne Enterprises, like the memory fabric for the cape, and the cape cannot be used to glide through the city until you get it. Same could apply to gadgets such as night lenses.

Soundtrack: Danny Elfman, Shirley Walker, James Newton Howard, and Hans Zimmer. Basically a melding of the B89, TAS, and BB. The best of them all.

Then there's other ideas such as investigating as guys like Matches Malone, but those are just minor ideas. :joker:

ya for real dudes, this thread has gone uphill since i left it for the dogs :)

ill consider most of your ideas The Batman...thanks!

If this game doesn't get made, I'll get it done...seriously. :D

Should there be a button to counter a move? That way it could look even more fluid that you counter one and hit a strike?

One thing I would like is that you could play the entire Batman experience.

LEVELS
Bruce Wayne
The first levels should be Bruce's travel through the world, you have a chance to roam an entire country. What you do could impact the entire game. You could go to a retired thief and learn lockpicking, if you choose not to, you won't be able to acsess somethings in the game! You could learn all the types of martial arts which will let make you a more advanced fighter! The more you learn the more you will have options to do.

Gotham City

After training Bruce returns to Gotham. Everytime night Bruce goes out. Now the players get to take all the fighting techniques they know and put them to use. Imagine walking down an aley and seeing two guys raping a woman. You spring into action! If you had trained, the thugs will be no problem, but if you took the easy way out every fight will be hard. Now, one of the thugs pulls out a knife, if you had learned proper defence you will be able to dodge the knife. The player beats up the thugs and continues roaming through the dark streets of Gotham.

The Batman

After a while Bruce realizes he needs something more. Thus he becomes The Batman. You know have the option of using the rooftops! This opens a whole other world to the game. You can now use fear and swoop down on foes. Since this is the early Batman you will have few gadgets such as Batarangs, a grapple, and the bat calling device. You will also have the police on your tale. After a while you hear that a crazed maniac is trying to poison Gotham. You search for clues, interogate criminals etc. You eventually find the criminal mastermind The Joker is behind it all! You stop the criminal. This gets you a reputation. The cops like you, and the criminals fear you. You meet many criminals such as Catwoman, The Riddler, The Penguin and Mr. Freeze. Eventually you will build the Batmobile and unlock the option of driving to the crime sceene. You can aslo play through different classic stories such as Year One, The Long Halloween etc.

Dick Grayson
After fighting crime for a while players will see a cutscene of Dick's parents dying. Then the players will get a chance to train Dick however they choose to. Then Dick mounts the mantel and you get to play as both characters. You can switch through them anytime you want! Dick may not be as strong as Batman but is much more acrobatic. This will allow you to go to places you couldn't before. You will get to follow different stories and eventually Dick will quit and the player will be alone for now.

Jason Todd
After fighting crime alone for a few levels, players will follow the classic story: "A Death In The Familly". Players will have to play mostly as Jason Todd but will still be allowed to play as Batman. Eventually Jason will die and Batman will get stronger every time he fights The Joker.

Other Heroes
Eventually you will unlock other heroes such as Batgirl, Nightwing, Tim Drake and Huntress. You will get the chance to play as them but sometimes you wont. For example after you follow The Killing Joke story you won't be able to play as Batgirl.

Free Roam
Gotham is yours. You decide what happens. You decide who you control. You are in control.

GAMEPLAY

Story
You will get to play through the classic Batman stories such as Year One, The Long Halloween, Haunted Knight, A Death In The Familly, Hush etc. This will be the only way to unlock other characters and certain extras!

More Than One Path
There will always be more than one way to complete a level. For example when facing The Joker you can go ahead and beat him. You have a risk of getting shot or hit with his acid and he could escape. But what you could do is you take away his weapons using Batarangs, you sweep down on him and fight as he weakens.

Heroes
  • Robin (Dick Grayson)
  • Catwoman
  • Robin (Jason Todd)
  • Batgirl (Barbara Gordon
  • Nightwing
  • Robin (Tim Drake)
  • Huntress
  • Batgirl (Cassandra)
Villians
  • The Joker
  • Catwoman
  • Two-Face
  • The Penguin
  • Mad Hatter
  • The Riddler
  • Mr. Freeze
  • Poison Ivy
  • Bane
  • Mr. Zssaz
  • Scareface and The Ventriluquest
  • Ra's Al Ghul
  • Carmine Falcone
    • Hush

  • Scarecrow
  • Black Mask
  • Killer Crock
  • Holiday
The Batcave

You can always go to the batcave. There you will be healed by Alfred, you can look at criminal files to help you solve crimes, you can change costumes or The Batmobile.

Costumes
As you progress you will unlock different costumes! You can go to the batcave anytime and choose a costume.

The Batmobile
Each car will have certain disadvantages and advantages. For example, the 90's car is very fast and has a battering ram but isn't very defensive.

Stealth
Stealth will be very much like Splinter Cell. You will be able to sneak, peek behind doors and walls etc.

Fighting
What ever you learned in the begginig of the game will stay with you. If you learn a lot of defence you will be able to block a knife with your hands! If you learn a lot of Tae-Kwan-Do you will be able to deliver poweful kicks!

Storyline/Continuity: The game would be based on the comics...per se. It would have the look of the comics, but not follow the current comics down to the tee. In fact, I'd say my idea is more "Batman the icon" than "Batman in the comics today". My game would have Dick Grayson as Robin, Babs as Batgirl, and thats it. IMO, all those sidekicks are repetitive, not to mention annoying. The General Public who are the main buyers of the game should have the continuity as streamlined as possible. The Storyline would drive most of the gameplay. You'll have missions and villains you'll have to face. The main characters in the story would be Batman, Robin, Commissioner Gordon, etc. and the major baddies(Joker, Ras, Catwoman, Riddler). I think they should get some comic writers (Greg Rucka, Jeph Loeb, Geoff Johns, etc) to create the game universe

Guest Stars: What if for one mission, you find yourself teaming with Green Arrow? How about going to Question to investigate something? I also had this one story idea where Batman leaves to investigate something and you have to team up with Black Canary while you're playing Robin.

okay , you can stop now "the batman"

"Thatll do pig....thatll do"
