Trivia. That was adapted from Strange Apparitions.

That is from Strange Apparitions. Strange Apparitions is the name of a TPB collecting several issues of Detective Comics from the late 70's written by Steve Englehart. The Laughing Fish is among them.

Its a ***** to get a hold off, lol. It was used for inspiration for B89.

what i dont like is how everybody is trippin on bruce adopting dick. there alot of people who have done things like bruce getting drunk and burning down his house, but people grow up. wanting to adopt is somethin somebody like bruce might want to do. all bruce would have to do is show that he is responsible enough to take care of a kid. any judge that wouldnt allow someone to adopt just because of things he did in the past (which would be years ago) shouldnt be the judge of whether or not he can adopt. everybody diserves a second chance and its not like he has a criminal record.

dropped out of college, presumed dead after 7 years, returns, buys a hotel, hangs out with models, buys a ballet and takes them to china or whatever, gets in car accidents trying to make a red, curses out his guest, proceeds to 'set his mansion a flame'.

dude i really wouldn't give bruce wayne a child cause i could see it being one of his 'phases'

Judge: "You request for adoption is denied Mr. Wayne."

Wayne: "Really? Well see I'm just going to purchase Gotham City so the boy is already mine...and you too."

Judge: "Mr Wayne. You, to me see, sir, are the most irresponsible, idiotic man Ive ever met and Ive already met Eddie Murphy. Now you think you can raise a child?when God only knows what kind of illicit and seedy world you would drag him into. I rather slit my wrists and sleep with that decompsing naked woman in the bathtub from The Shining, than to let you EVER have a child".

Wayne: "5000 Dollars for the kid"

Judge: "SOLD!"

Wayne: "And Ill buy that Statue of Justice too".

Judge: "Now youre pushing it"

Wayne: "I have cash with me know..."

Judge: "SOLD, YOU LITTLE ******* BEAUTY"

There's an age to grow up. A man in his early 30's that gets drunk periodically with such disastrous results I'd say just didn't grew up.

Add to that that he's single and he's the next worst option for adoption after Michael Jackson.

Any judge would want to see an actual proof of such maturity, like getting married in order to prove that he can provide the kid a normal home. But that won't happen, because Bruce has no time for a normal relationship (let alone raising a kid). Plus, that hasn't happened in the comics that way, which is the only reason why people think that Robin could be an essential element to Batman.

wanting to adopt is somethin somebody like bruce might want to do.

Why exactly? Why should he suddenly feel like having a son when he knows that his crime-fighting carreer comsumes all his time and strenght?
Why would he feel that beinmg a father is perfect for a man that has to lie all the time to cover his double life, keeps busy all night and puts his like at stake constantly?

all bruce would have to do is show that he is responsible enough to take care of a kid.

Which for a man that has an inmtense double life is hard to do. The last thing Bruce needs is someone scrutinizing his life, house and daily routine.

And no, having Bruce's reputation he has to preove far lot than just look responsible. Bruce's behaviour ios known to be unpredictable so a deep examination would be in order. Not to mention that any judge would prefer a man that's married so he can provide a normal home.

It's even worse.

Bruce's behaviour can't even be addressed to financial needs. He has been a drunk womanizer that burnt his house - and all that AFTER being completely dissapeared for 7 years or so while the world believed he was dead - just because he wanted to. He fits perfectly the profile of the young dandy that's so bored of being rich and having it all that gets into unpredictable erratic behaviour.

Any judge who thinks that after a couple of years, a man with that past who hasn't been able to have a normal love relationship and get married is a candidate for adoption is out of his mind.

Then comes CPS knocking at the door of Wayne Manor:

CPS Agent: *knocks on door*

Alfred: *opens door* "Yes?"

Agent: "Uhm...we have received reports of child abuse at this residence...are you the legal guardian of the child?"

Alfred: "Uhm...no...Mr. Wayne is...but he's...out...uhm...shopping..."

Agent: "Oookay...but who are you?"

Alfred: "Uhm...his butler...yeah..."

Agent: "Uh huh...I see...and why is Mr. Wayne out shopping for his own things?"

Alfred: "Damn! It figures that Gotham hired a smart CPS Agent!" *Yells into the house* "Master Wayne! Run! The government's here to take the boy!"

There has been discussion of making Wayne, or the public Wayne persona, more philanthropic for the sequel. If that's the case giving him an adopted son wouldn't be as ill-advised. Not that I'm arguing for the inclusion of Robin, just putting that out there.

It's still risky for a kid. As I said before, Wayne has already stablished a reputation of unpredictable man. Giving money doesn't make him elegible as a adoptive father all of a sudden with his past. Get Bruce married for a num,ber fo years (to prove he doesn't mistreat Mrs. Wayne) and I'll start to believe something has really changed.

Yes. Robin is wanted:o

How are you?

Not too shabby... visiting the UK so going to be shortly. Just thought I'd pop in and see if anyone I knew was still kicking around.

I CBA to quote the last guy who posted about philanthropy and child adoption. As an Average Joe in Gotham I could buy the philandering Bruce Wayne taking steps to become more charitable but having a man who refuses to have a relationship with an adult female decide to take on an adopted son would be a bit beyond what I would buy into.

I understand that Robin is an important part of the universe but I cannot for the life of me see how he would fit into the storyline that Nolan has masterfully created. There are probably posts from me at the beginning of this thread saying the same thing and that belief has only solidified since TDK.

First of all to everybody else he got drunk on his birthday and burned his house down once. it has been a while since then, there's no proof that bruce still gets drunk all the time because he doesnt.

Second there's no reason y he cant proof he is responsible enough to raise a child on his own.

when i said someone like bruce i didnt actually mean bruce. he sees himself in dick and thats what made him want to help him.

Any judge that wouldnt be willing to give somebody even with bruce's past a second chance when bruce can honestly say that he has changed. Its not that hard to believe
