He had a perfect, absolutely perfect candidate for Joker...and he wasted him. I am talking about none other than Cillian Murphy.

Yeah i definitely see where you're coming from, he has the cat-like wide mouth sort of smile, and the crazy sort of look in his eyes.
I haven't really read many comics, but from watching batman begins i didn't like the scarecrow character at all :down

Not just that; the inflection in his voice-the fascination whenever he says "The Batman". He sounds perplexed, intrigued & amused all at the same time-which is exactly how the Joker reacts to him.

Although Cillian may be *wasted* as Mr. J, I really really hope that they bring Scarecrow back as a totally deranged psycopath.

One thing I didn't like about BB *looks around for people ready to jump on him* was the way that they took Scarecrow out..with a bloody taser shot by Rachel. I mean after his badass "second coming" on the fire-snorting horse (yea yea fear toxin effects..but still), he delivers a cool line and then boom, out by a taser and rides away yelping like a biotch.

I wanna see him come back more psychotic than ever, maybe even a team-up with Mr. J - I mean, they did say they didn't find Crane at the end of BB right?

Here's to hoping..

No I don't see him as Joker, Nolan made right choice. I hope he'll make right choice by casting Bettany as Joker.

i guess he couldve played a good joker. a little young but i think i could see it. but i think he did a good job as scarecrow so it wasnt a waste.

You're right, Chris, he could've played the Joker. Still he played Scarecrow wonderfully, and for that I can't say anyone "blew it".

hed of been great as either but they needed scarecrow at the time.

But Murphy was a great Scarecrow. He was tall, thin, gangly like Jonathan Crane. Sure he has that wicked smile and eyes, but to me he was The Scarecrow. However, if he comes back in one of the sequels he needs the brimmed hat, mask, and either his straightjacket look, or scarecrow-like clothes.

Actually, Cillian is only about 5'8, so he wasn't tall.

That said, he was absolutely excellent as The Scarecrow. He played him exactly as he should be played. He owned the part IMO.

He was poor as Crane, non-existant as Scarecrow and lucky me he won't be Joker.

The first time I saw the movie I said that: "Murphy should play Joker"

I agree 100%. The only thing I don't think he has, is the height. But other than that, he could have been an AMAZING Joker.

It wasn't his acting that made him poor as Crane or non-existant as Scarecrow. It was the writing. When he was on-screen, he was very creepy, peformed an amazing part. But he didn't have enough time on screen. The Scarecrow was barely in Batman Begins, and as Crane he was just fine.

Don't blame the actor.

My pick would be Jonathan Rhys Meyers He was in Match Point and Prozac Nation. I think he would rock but hey If P.B. doesnt want it they can always get Richard Simmons to play the joker.

LOL

Jeeezzz!!! some people look waaaaay too far into the actors actually playing the characters!! Its not as if there playing themselfs in the film, there acting!! So long as they look roughly like who there playng and can act.. thats grand, even then.. just look at Batman89 I would have never seen jack as the joker. But he did it pretty well.

All you need to know is that with the team thatmade batman begins it will be done right!!

I'm going to have to agree on this one. CM would have been a perfect Joker. As it stands now, I'm pretty hyped about Ledger. He wasn't my first choice but thinking about some of his better roles has changed my mind. Great voice and pretty toothy. Plus he's a very good actor and I think he'll nail the Charles Manson zanyness.

No I disagree, but any people who has over 10,000 post deserves the right to start a thread to make a statement like this.

By the way, where Nolan actuall blew it was at the end of the movie when Crane declares himself as Scarecrow!! Coming out on that horse with fire coming out of his nose was bad ass!

That was the perfect opportunity for Nolan to create a 30 sec to a minute scene of Scarecrow chasing Rachel and the kid down a dark alley reminicent of Burton's Sleepy Hollow!!!

Instead he got taken out by a taser.

I think Crane pre-Scarecrow was more effective as a villian.

Cillian Murphy doesn't seem all that intimidating. Too girly.

Absolutely. And the wide eyes opening and slow talking (the batttttmaaaaaaaannnnnn) don't help one thing against it.

Scarecrow's exit was disapointing.
but maybe Nolan had done that because this isn't the last we see the scarecrow. He'll probably come back a much bigger badass then before...with much bigger action then getting just tasered.

Now on to Heath Ledger...I'm still skeptical...but quite curious as to why Nolan would cast him. I'm sure Nolan has great faith in this guy and so I am willing to have an open mind about it. I won't judge his performance until I see him on the silver screen.
