This article is foreshadowing that a certain Avenger will die in Endgame Kevin Feige Says Captain Marvel Will Take the Lead in the MCU

If that is what Kevin really wants then I hope that he recruits better writers and directors to tackle her next film. From what I saw, her first solo outing was decent but not once did I feel that she was ready to inherit the mantle of being the face of the MCU. Frankly, I feel like Black Panther is the current best candidate for that position.

I would have also said Spider-Man as well but due to the deal with Sony, it really makes it hard for Marvel studios to put everything on him.

I just hope that Carol being very powerful is not the biggest reason why she is in line for that promotion.

Wouldn’t make sense as Cap was hardly the most powerful and Thor wasn’t given all that much prominence early on. Also Strange should have a big claim too ignorant it was done on powers only after his amazing IW showing.

Indeed. I only mentioned her powers because Feige always seems to bring that up whenever talking about her.

Right now, I really don't see Carol to be that compelling. She isn't boring or bad by any means. But I feel like she needs her own "Winter Soldier" type of film to really elevate her to the next level as a character.

Black Panther, Black Widow, and Wasp should be the leader, really.

The leader should not also be the most powerful as that means they effectively sideline everyone else, as they are heavy lifting and making all the decisions, so they effectively get all the credit.

Man, I want that Empire cover without the logos and the text, it's a beaut.

I can't say that I'm concerned at all about balance in the next phase of the MCU, simply because it feels so much like a phase 1 concern, like the way people used to talk about RDJ overshadowing everyone.

The studio hasn't made the mistake of focusing too much on one character before, I really doubt that they will make that mistake in the future, now that they are the biggest movie franchise in the world.

All this talk probably has to do with the studio feeling like they were really, really late in bringing a female superhero to the screen (as a lead character), which they were, and possibly also Captain Marvel being able to connect the cosmic and earth-based aspects of the MCU.

I could see that being important.

Apart from Iron Man, I think they all needed at least another film to get going, a 3rd film in Thor’s case. So hopefully CM’s 2nd film is a big jump. The other main candidates to lead I guess are BP and Strange, although they both have major concerns outside of the Avengers.

I'm not worried about a "leader" just yet since it looks like "Phase 4" will be a lot of solo films and new franchises anyway. I don't see another Avengers type event for a while after this.

I see Captain Marvel, Black Panther and Doctor Strange as the new faces after Cap, Tony and Thor are more or less gone.

It's true that "taking the lead in the MCU" is not really the same thing as leading the Avengers.

The former could mean that CM functions like a "glue" character in the next phase, to help keep things cohesive.

I'm not sure what will happen to the Avengers as a team, but the concept may move into the background for a while.

Yep, I see them as the new big 3.

With Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man... they are basically ushering the old guard out. These new characters are the future of the MCU going into phase 4. All having their sequels... Then the MCU still has GOTG 3, Ant-Man 3, the Black Widow movie, Shang-Chi... Nova? Eternals?

There's a total of 9 Phase 4 release dates.

The July 2020 date was removed after Gunn was fired. Now it's only two films next year

What I wonder is whether we see a Thor 4 sometime over the next few years

it all depends on who is the biggest star and agent and who has the best writing in the film.
