Just saw Spidey 3. For me, I think it was my favorite. I loved it. Had a good audience. Lots of emotional range. The audience laughed, gasped, jumped, teared up.

I thought we'd wait until Sunday morning so the theater wouldn't be so packed. WRONG!!! The earlier showings were sold out when I got there, which was ok because I wanted to see a later showing. And it was packed. But the audience was good. I wanted to clap when it started because this little girl a few rows back with her friends or siblings who were talking said "It's starting! Everyone hush." Got a chuckle from more than a few people.

Whaen I saw it here in geneva the theater was relatively empty but that is not a surprise in this market.

My theater was maybe 3/4 full, but then they were showing the movie every half hour in seven theaters, so there was room for everyone. And after I've slept on it and such, I think I will officially, as of right now, label it my second favorate after the first. If I watch it a few more times it could match the first, but I don't think it'll pass it. I think the thing that holds it back for me is that I felt Sandman and the Uncle Ben storyline wasn't necessary and that it was time that could have been focused more on the development on Venom/Eddie Brock. I understand that to build up Brock/Venom during Harry's good days would have ended up with no villains for Black Spidey to face, and I think they should have rather put in someone fairly established, such as John Jameson/Man-Wolf, or Curt Conners/Lizard. There wouldn't be much development needed as both are already developed and known, and it would have given more time for Brock and getting to know the symbiote. Oh... and I couldn't stand the Parker Strut down the street. I hated it!

Other than that, the rest was good. Though I didn't think Sandman was needed, I thought they did a good job with him and he was a very likable villain. I didn't expect much from Harry this film (figured he'd be a throw away storyline that'd be resolved half heartedly) but I really enjoyed his role as good guy and bad guy. Eddie Brock impressed me as a character and I LOVED the church scene and the creation of Venom. Though I first thought Venom looked a little hokey, it grew on me and I really liked him by the end. Overall I liked the film. I probably won't get to the theator again, so I'm excited to get the DVD when it comes out so I can watch it a few more times to really decide what I think of it.

:wow:

That scene was a big hit in my theater. Everyone had a laugh at it. I thought it was great.

And the dance scene in the club got a good response too. And although I liked it, I'll admit it could have been saved for the DVD in favor of other scenes (I have a feeling there was a scene or two cut right before Pete takes the sample to Conners). But don't forget that the club scene led to Pete and MJ fighting, and Pete hitting MJ. Which finally pushes him into getting rid of the suit. So it did have some importance.

The dance was funny at first but dragged on way too long.....ending it of with a Brant/Peter close shot.....umm yeah....like that would ever happen.....

I can't believe how dissapointed I was with the movie.....I had loved the series so far, but this movie bugged me continuously....there were so many scenes where I was like....WHAT?!?....that doesn't even make sense....or what the hell happened?....

The main points that bugged me were: (just in case you have been living under a rock I will it in spoiler tags)
1. at the church he had to rip the suit off but before that he could casually take it on or off.....did I miss like 10 minutes of the movie where he maybe struggles a little to get it off....and says...woah....what's going on?...
2. The dumb kids at the battle royal who basically look at the camera and says "Wicked awesome"......I thought I fel asleep and woke up in the middle of a TMNT movie...I was just waiting for Michealangelo to come in on his skateboard yelling cowabunga.....there was constant cheesy dialogues, and quick one liners like that...but that's the one that stood out.....not surprisingly since they are actually Sam Raimi's kids.....the third was the one with the camera (but no film)....
3. A day after Harry got blown up with a bomb he just gets his face somehow just melted but no swelling, wounds, burnds, open sores, and all his hair was there....grrr....but he gets a little knock on the noggin and he almost dies???...
4. The fact that it was over 2 hours long but felt like I missed most of the movie since everything was rushed.....but at the same time I felt it dragged way too long....figure that one out....

There is a bunch more but I leave it as that....I hope after watching it a second time I will enjoy it more.....I was expecting more from the movie compared to the other two....I still give it a 3/5 (passing grade) but mostly because you have to watch it to complete the trilogy.....

Hmmm so my original comments were not blasmephy after all ;)

My biggest problem with the movie:

NO FANTASTIC FOUR TRAILER!!!

I would have much rather seen FF2 instead of Across The Universe.

The more I think about the movie, the more I don't like it.

First, I was expecting an F4 trailer, too....but, I was just as happy to see the new Harry Potter trailer. (But, these kids aren't aging nicely. I was thinking the gal who plays Hermoine is getting rather homely.)

Now, I liked Sandman; but, I didn't think his story was fully developed. He never seemed that menacing; plus, the situation involving his daughter never reached an adequate conclusion. Too bad we couldn't see Peter helping her out in the end or something. (How crappy would Sandman feel...I keep getting money, but I can never hold onto it. Maybe it would have been best to scrap the whole sick daughter scenario.) I thought the casting for Sandman was dead-on, though. He looked exactly as I have always imagined Sandman.

Venom was the biggest waste of time. I would have done the entire black suit saga...but, I would have held off doing Venom. Just have the end of the movie be a teaser for the next film. Let the audience see Eddie Brock being taken over by the black suit and let film #4 be the Venom movie, ala X2, knowing Dark Phoenix would be X3...or the end of Spider-Man 2, knowing Harry would become the Green Goblin.

The biggest problem with Venom was lack of time spent on such a great character and not showing the audience how ruthless Venom really is. Film four could have focused on Venom terrorizing a city, going after Peter's family and friends.

Now, the movie also screwed up with Peter wearing the black suit. They made him waaaay too campy, and even Peter's dark side just made him look like more of a dork. He wasn't the least bit menacing. It also didn't show the costume taking over when Peter thought he was asleep, which worked well in the comics.

Finally, the introduction of Gwen Stacy was almost a waste. Sure, it made Mary Jane jealous...but, that's it.

I agree with you Phaed. Gwen Stacy was definitely wasted. She never was a true love interest and now probably could never become one. What was the point of having her. It could have been some other random girl instead.

The other thing was the symbiote was only grafted on his clothes and he could take it off . Of course, when he wants to get rid of it, there are no more clothes and just the creature which has grafted onto his skin .

In any case, I was dissappointed not that it will change anything.

I'll probably get skinned alive for saying this (I KNOW I would on the Spidey boards) but after letting the movie settle in my mind, I actually prefer X-men 3 over Spidey 3, and I never thought I would say that. I thought both had MAJOR faults, but at least X-men didn't make me sit through 2 1/2 hours of those faults. It's almost like Ratner realized they were there and tried to get through them as quickly as possible while Raimi just tried to expound upon them.

That is actually a valid point  but the wolverine thing botherred me too much for me to place it above spidey 3.

I'd take X3 over Spidey 3 any day. Even though X3 couldn't hold a candle to X2, it still had some great scenes, and definitely more action and better villians. The problem with X3 was first, it was rushed, and second, for some reason couldn't get the budget of Spider-Man. While Spidey3 was way too long, X3 was probably not long enough.

I don't think X3 ever deserves a favorable comparison to anything. Now I haven't seen Spidey 3 yet, and I'm not that big of a fan of the Spidey series anyway, but X3 was seriously one of the biggest pieces of crap I've ever seen.

Maybe when it comes to superhero movies, we should never have a third.

Superman 3
X-Men 3
Spider-Man 3
Batman 3

Not a good record going on. Although, out of all four, I'll take X-Men 3. Spidey 3 would be second, though.

Out of those four? Superman 3. Richard Pryor, baby!
