Wow, that sucks man. Good thing your friend just got stabbed in the leg.:xmen:

Yeah, it was one of those "holy ****" moments, but when we found out that it would do no real damage to him, all of his friends (especially me) gave him a lot of **** for it. We used to always bring him medical reports of leg problems being linked to erectile dysfunction and stuff like that. Not to mention that now whenever we go out, he can try and impress some girls with his heroic story of being stabbed. So I guess there is always some good in everything.

If you want to sell some comics, I am a serious buyer. You can ask JH.

Yep, Ahura was my best buyer when I had to sell my stuff. He comes with my highest recomendations!!!

That said... I could have sworn that trading wasn't allowed on the Hype? I remember that a guy came in here once asking for trading, and I traded with him and he was legit, but then he got in trouble for it and they said it wasn't appreciated here. Maybe I understood it wrong?

But yeah, I gave him Origin 1 and Daredevil 28 (or whatever issue Bendis' run began on)... and I got Runaways 1-9 and Mystique 1-9. My Origin was a double and I didn't like Daredevil back then, so no skin off my back... and it got me into Runaways. In my opinion it was an awsome deal!

Well, I scared myself silly today. I was a work going through which comics I wanted to fill holes in my collection, and noticed I didn't have any Uncanny X-Men comics checked off in my big book. (I mean BIG BOOK. It's over 1500 pages, and has it so each issue can be checked off if you've got them. I need to get a new one, as it only goes up to the year 2004.) I had just gone through all my boxes and various locations that I've stowed comics in the house, and was afraid I lost the long box in the move after the seperation. Thankfully, I just skipped that box. But, what a box to miss.

Anyway, when I bought my weekly comics today (many of which didn't come in. It's been icy on the roads, so the rest won't be in until Friday), I filled in some holes. I had a really bad comic shop back in the entire 90's, and they would constantly miss comics each week, because they had a constant rotation of new employees. (I never realized I missed so many Elfquest comics.) Anyway, I now have my collection complete on:

Elfquest: New Blood, Elfquest: Two-Spear, Spider-Man (didn't realize I was missing one issue), Savage She-Hulk, and Secret Wars II.

Man, I still hate that I sold off my first collection. I had all the X-Men comics from 94 on, and most of the Marvel titles were complete from the 80-87. Plus, I had Fantastic Four from at least 100 to present-1987.

Why did you sell your first collection?

Decided I was too old for comics, wanted to buy a car, and decided my relationship was more important. The car ended up being a lemon which, when it finally was fixed, got into an accident and was totalled.

Lesson: Don't make rash decisions about your investments. And, your comic collection will last longer than many of your relationships. Man, it wa a beautiful collection. I sold it for $2,000, and today it would be worth so much more. This was right before the big comic boom.

1.Too old for comics = Blasphemy
2.Cars are good though when they stay in one piece
3.If your relationship was with your wife it might have been more important. Otherwise comics are generally > people.

I sympathise. I've paid way over the odds for a lot of my stuff as I bought on the back of the boom. Life can be hard for collectors. :csad:

I can understand that....my first collection was sold for the grand sum of $0 because my stepmother had decided to give them all away to her nephew without asking me which was really kind of her given that it was worth a bit.

At the time, I was not present....

I remember the "I'm too old for comics" stage I went through. I would buy them at the local grocery store and always comment that they were for my little brother. They ladies knew me there and just smiled, they new better. I'd deny being a comic fan at school, and eventually I gave most of them to my brother. I was sad to do it... but I was too old for them anyhow. Then one day I came upstairs to his room and he had cut them all up and had their covers hanging all over his room. I thought I was going to have a stroke.

I eventually got out the comics I kept (The whole Onslaught storyline that was recently finished, and a few issues from when I first began collecting), and I thought "Screw it" and I went down to a small book store that had opened down the street and just started buying the new issues and replacing the old ones. It was sometime toward the later issues of X-Men with Maggot, Marrow, and Cecelia Reyes, just before Kitty, Colossus, and Nightcrawler came back to the X-Men. I never looked back.

I'm really getting an itch to go back to the comic shop, as I haven't bought an actual comic in a good 7 or 8 months (I have to do the dirty deed that Hype looks down on to keep up to date on my comics... I can't afford it anymore). I've bought some trades here and there online, which is how I"m going to keep collecting as I can, but I miss my back issues.

Something I'm thinking about doing is seeing if I can find anyone who will print comics for me if I provide them. Then I'll take them and bind them myself into my own hardback trades, in whatever order I wish. That way I can have all my old X-Titles in readable order in volumes, and I can have some of my favorate old Spidey storylines in trade form, being that they aren't ever going to be released in trades (like Spiderman: The Child Within through the Death of Harry Osborn, and the Clone Saga). There was a company I found online that specialized in binding comics, but I didn't want to cut up my comics and they wouldn't take printed versions for copyright reasons (understandably). So I got online and it doesn't look too hard to do. I'm sure that this is probably just a faze and that I'll never do it (as I can't afford a colored printer and I don't think any would actually print them for me) but eh, it's fun to think about. I find myself always planning out future trades and laying out my comics in readable order of how I would want them. I'm so cool.

Well, I'm thinking we're not going to get any more votes. We seriously need Trigger or Powderman to pop back onto the net and break this tie.

Oh well, I'll wait about another hour before ending voting.

Thank God for Darthphere. Once he's done, I'll post results. Heck, I don't even care if I lose...rematches suck!!!

Lost Starfox but kept Zemo. I can live with it.

EDIT: Wow, totally forgot about Growing Man. Awesome.

I lost Wind dancer and Scorcher which to be honest i couldn't care less about but to lose against Squirrel girl really bothers me.

To lose against any of the GLA is an insult. Fortunately... my Caliban went against Flatman... the lamest of the lame.

And thank God for Darthphere... I so didn't want to rematch that Deadgirl/Mercury fight. I didn't even care if I lost... I just didn't want to rematch it.

Wow, there were a BUNCH of one sided matches this week... but it's giving us a bunch of really good matches for round 2. I'm specifically thinking of Her Vs Starlord and Wonderman Vs Super Skrull. Good stuff!

And on a completely unrelated note... I never realized that there was so much build up to the Infinity Gauntlet! I saw the Rebirth of Thanos trade advertised and thought I'd look into it, and there's some good build up there, but not only that, there's a good amount of Silver Surfer comics that take place between that trade and the Infinity Gauntlet... and they're all pretty good. I'll have to include those in my "to buy list when I start rebuilding my collection" list.

Okay, here's the game plan...Hellstormer, find a way for Moon Knight to beat Photon.... because I REALLY don't want to face him again in round 3 :(

Okay, got it.... Break!

Well, guess who has pretty much all of those key Silver Surfer comics in his collection that are duplicates? I even have duplicates of the 2 part Thanos miniseries that came before Infinity Gauntet.

I don't think you'll have to worry about that, JH....because Squirrel Girl will defeat Photon with no problem!

(Boy, I really had to push to have Squirrel Girl added to the competition, and didn't even get her on my roster. I had her listed high...but, not so high that I thought someone else would have her higher. Darn trying to figure other people out.)

Cool, now that'd be a great prize (especially the Thanos Quest comics). It doesn't look like I'm on track for any prizes thus far, but if I do, I'd be real interested in those if you're willing to put them up.

And Caliban is having Squirrel Soup!!!
