Official Contest of Marvels II Discussion Thread

Ah man, Daredevil would've gone out against Vengeance anyway. If he had at least gone up against Moondragon or something, he could've used the all powerful man****e skills to win that one too. Daredevil just wasn't meant for this competition, he was meant for a competition of love. :(

Okay, sorry guys. It's been a hectic week (training for a new position at work adds about an hour and a half driving trip for me, and I've been sick).

About voting. We will always accept outside votes (otherwise there's little way for us to draw in potential players for the future, look at Trigger. She was our resident outside voter last season, and now she's doing... um.... 19%) however I do agree that a vote count would help. I'm thinking 100 non-spamming posts would be a good number. And as far as I'm concerned, let's get the rule going starting this week. And as for the 'voting in every thread' rule... yes, it is a rule that everyone must vote in every thread. I've been lenient on this rule in the past if it's been honest mistakes, or a one time deal, etc, but if ever an outside person did it, I'd rather the votes not be counted, or if a vote on one of the forgotten threads could break or make a tie, I'd prefer waiting for that last vote. That's the thought behind that.

And though we may have the rematch anyhow... you can go ahead and place Wallflower (HoM) in the advancement round. It'd take a lot of convincing for me to push Spidercide before her (though I love his character, it's sad when losing some of your favorate characters in such an annoying fashion).

One suggestion to help new outside voters, how about a very brief reminder of the rules with each voting update. Something small like "remember to read the debates fro each match and vote in all matches." Just so new voters know we're not doing it like Sparta's thread.

I don't see how a reminder would hurt, if Phaed is alright in adding it, I say it's a good idea.

Ok, I feel good about having a 100 post count...I don't hear any real objections; so, the motion is passed.

If someone only votes in one or two threads, then I don't mind not counting those votes. But, if one of the regulars votes in three threads, and for some reason forgot to vote in a fourth, I would rather be sympathetic to the error than make a rule stating we won't count their votes, no matter what.

Weren't you guys also toying with the idea of making some sort of small punishment if one of the contestants forgot to vote in one of the threads? You could make it so if I forgot to vote in Thread 4, taht my other votes would count, but in one of my next matches, I didn't get prep time (or something like that.

Hmm, I don't remember it, but then my memory isn't the best. Personally, I'm not one to punish mistakes. However, if it becomes a regular thing, then something would have to be done. Fortunately, I don't think anyone's had much of a problem with it.

Great idea

As there are a lot of Vs threads and nearly all of them require no reading these could do with some kind of small regular reminder.

For regular violators, something would have to happen. I don't think losing prep-time would be good since we're trying to pit together characters that have the same opportunities to see whose best. But possibly not allowing the person to vote the next week, or automatically lose any ties (which sounded better in my head, but I don't think I like that one anymore)...

The good thing is this will rarely happen. As JH says, I'm not one to really punish people. Most of the odd votes that come in is usually from a noob who might not understand what to do. But, I think we can install the following rules today:

To vote, you must have a post count of 100. (Which is pretty easy to achieve. Hippy probably goes through 100 posts in a couple days!)

If a voter only posts in one thread, their votes will not count. (This rule should eliminate everything we're talking about. Usually the random voter who strolls across this contest only votes in one thread, anyway. And, a regular voter wouldn't be so absent-minded to miss the three other threads.)

A reminder to voters that to vote you must read debates will be posted at the same time that Phaedrus45 posts the announcement that "voting may begin."

Can I get a second to all of these motions?

Ok, Stalin!:cmad:

Ok, the new rules have been added to the front page. If anyone has any problems with them, let me know. (You can even PM me and I'll keep it anonymous.) Again, if one person doesn't like the 100 post rule, it will be taken away. But, the "must vote in all threads" was a rule we originally had, but just haven't enforced. The ammendment just helps with people who stroll into the contest unaware of the rules without punishing the regulars for an accidental error.

Man, I love ebay, but I hate Media Mail. It seems to take forever to receive comics this way. (Although, I'm so cheap, many times I'll opt for it over Priority.)

I just got all six issues of Wanted today. Yesterday, I got issues 1-2, 4-8 of Son Of Satan and a bunch of early issues of Marvel Two-In-One, and the day before that 24 issues of All-Star Squadron.

Now, I'm trying to collect all of the issues of Marvel Comics Presents. I guess all the doubles of these comics I'll end up giving away as prizes down the road. Currently, I have a whole stack of repeats of Marvel Two-In-One and Defenders, Vol. 1 in my comic room. They aren't always in the best of condition...but, for those of you who like comics from the 70's and 80's, they are kind of neat to own.

I have the complete run of Marvel comics presents, i tell you it was a halluva a time getting those...so many $0.50 boxes.

Match-ups will be coming later today. Been real busy, and I have to drive to the airport now. I should have them ready in about 3-4 hours.

No, it wasn't a hassle at all...it was a legitimate question, and I was just getting online at that moment to leave the message, anyway.

Anyway, the first set of brackets are up, and I'm heading to work, where I'll get the second set of brackets posted. So, no debating until everything is up, please. Give me about another hour and a half.

Thanks for the patience, guys.

Tim
