Official Contest of Marvels II Discussion Thread

Let him get 45 more posts. Rules are rules, and if we break that for the first case, that just sets a bad precedent, IMO.

I say nay, we set a rule. No exceptions. We'll just have him signed up for next season.

ok, I let him know to get the 45 more posts, and then he can start voting each week.

ok, so I "got hold of" (posting how might get me banned...) the first 9 episodes of heroes, just watched the first one and it's pretty cool actually. How many episodes have aired so far?

If he's interested in the competition he might be interested in debating for someone who's dropped out. Probably not but could be worth checking.

I'm still keeping it open for him, as he does vote weekly. Right now, we're far enough along in the competition, I figure it's just best to not give those characters away to a third person. Heck, season 3 is only about 5 months off. (cough, cough)

After getting back into ebaying and ordering from Mile High Comics, (damn ebay. I quit for a year because it was so damn addictive) I'm back on the hunt for having entire runs.

Battlestar Galactica(Marvel): Only one more issue to go.
Animal Man: 6 issues to go.
Captain Atom: 4 issues to go.
Champions: 5 issues to go.
Checkmate (vol. 1): 1 issue to go.
Crisis on Infinite Earths: 2 issues to go.
Defenders(vol.1): 21 issues to go, including annuals.
LEGION: 19 issues to go, including annuals.
Man-Thing (vol. 2): 2 issues to go.
Marc Spector, Moon Knight: 5 issues to go.
Marvel Saga: Just the hard to find last issue, #25.
Marvel Superhero Secret Wars: 2 issues to go.
Marvel 2-in-1: 7 issues to go, including annual.
Ms. Marvel(vol. 1): 7 issues to go
Nick Fury, Agent of Shield: 14 issues to go.

I really need to figure out my comics past letter P. I have some holes to fill, but right now I've been focusing on A-P pretty much. I keep getting stuff I think I don't have, and then discover I already got it. Right now, Milehigh is having 40% off their already low prices; so, I got many nearmint old issues for only 60 cents.

Yes, I won a Man-Thing ebay auction! Vol. 2 is now complete. (In fact, I now have extras...I guess it's another prize to hold out for future contests, if a winner wants them.)

There is a really cool comic shop in Tacoma now. Lots of back issues, but not the best prices. Probably right at price guide for them all. What I hated was he had no bargain bins. Every damn comic shop should have a bargain bin, for God's sake!!!

BTW, Hippy, wait until you get to last Monday's episode. You think you like it now? You'll be addicted come episode #9.

Now you're playing with fire, I'm a complete spoiler ****e and I've managed to resist the urge with this show so far...to much temptation :csad:

Spoiler ****e? Well, at least it's not another man****e. Got enough of those around this season.

BTW, since tomorrow is Thanksgiving here in the USA, after voting concludes tomorrow, I might just get up the brackets early. So, keep your eyes open for an extra day of debating this week. And, thank God I have two matches. Nothing is worse than having nothing to argue about over the weekend.

If you want I could start an argument right now

Prince is lame and the bat dance is one of the lowpoints of modern culture :cwink:

What issues? Man-Thing is one of my faves but I only have the 90s mini and the movie prelude that was ooc and far better then that movie.

For being a 15 year comic fan... I think I've read maybe 5 issues with Man-Thing in them, and most of them were out of continuity (Mutant X, Amalgam, etc.). I think one was a reprint of Marvel Two-In-One. Just couldn't really get into the character I guess.

And to Hippy.... resist the temptation. The show's awsome, but much of the awsomeness would be less awsome if you looked ahead. Trust me, it's worth waiting. And yes... this past episode was amazing! Me and my Heroes buddy at work talked about it all day long. We annoyed everyone during lunch (and adopted another guy into the Heroes club).

And to Brodie... thanks. The sig came from the Spiderman: Kraven's Last Hunt storyline (and something else prior to that that I don't remember). I just got the Premiere Hardcover of it and read it for the first time. It was amazing. I'd say the only time in history that someone actually thoroughly defeated Spiderman and never lost his victory. Great story. It had some good follow up stories down the road as well (Torment and Child Within come to mind)

Although I would have put more effort in on both the Gamora (and Moondragon) matches if I thought I had a chance of losing them, I've got to admit that I was outdebated by Jewhobs in the Bedlam match.

I went through my Round 1 matches the other day putting down which ones I thought would win and lose. So far I'm at almost 0% prediction success. I'm winning matches with Ch'vayre and Gambit against arguably superior characters and losing with the characters I actually chose (even Maxam had it tough). Oh well, just another day in the COM. :csad: :yay:

The Moondragon defeat (which was quite a heavy one) was more annoying as she had half a bracket to herself (Gamora doesn't really matter as she's surrounded by some of my other good characters (Gamesmaster and Superskrull) and they would have had to knock each other out anyway) and could have caused carnage. Serves me right for being lazy and overconfident. :csad:

Well I am going to lose Annihlus to a battle for which I had very little time to debate. Then again, it was an uphill battle I felt from some comments I saw. In any case, I had him that high up in my list based on his showing in Annihlation not his FF4 showings.

No matter I still have few uber characters left.

I was sad that I didn't have time to make my list how I wanted, so I threw a few Spidey characters I liked up top, then the X-Men lists. So I have a bunch of characters I know a lot about, and not so many uber ones. I have some, but it's going to take me a lot of debating to get my characters far.

Aah so that's why I ended up with only Gambit, Husk and Marrow despite putting all the X-Men near the top :woot:

Yeah... someone must have done the same with the X-Men 2099, as I put all of them up high, and I only got Metalhead. I was bummed, as it's one of my all time favorate titles. Truthfully, I think if you debate well enough, Husk can make it far. She's an underrated character, and her AoA counterpart (which you have) has a LOT of potential. Look at her stuff in Generation Next and the new AoA mini. Just be creative.

Yeah she could do well (I'll check her draw). I would have liked to get my hands on some of the characters I know everything about like Cyke or Beast or even Iceman and Psylocke :( If the rules allowed trading it could have been interesting.

I'm happy with all my top characters although they seem to be doing pretty badly.

I charged Asgard where yuo guys where putting X-men which worked out pretty well. I am only bummed I missed out on Thor but as I had Hulk as number 1, I knew there was a big risk I would miss out on Thor.

By the way, JH, you have anything on Count Nefaria?

Well I had half the cosmics and a lot of other uber characters (of which I only got a couple:() before the X-Men. If I ever do this again, I'll put a bit more thinking into the list.
