Official Contest of Marvels II Discussion Thread

Not much, but I'm sure I can find some good bios for you if you like.

I appreciate that but the bios on the net i have seen, I was just wondering if you had a few comic panels, thats all.

Thanks for the offer.

My top was a mixture of characters I like and uber characters. I didn't copy and paste a single complete list up until it was time to fill out the rest of it.

Last year I spent about three hours straight getting my list together. Unfortunately, this time I was spending about an hour a day on my mom's computer and was in the process of moving from my old apartment into my mom's house, while trying to get into a new job. I didn't have the time I wanted to spend on it. It's funny, if you look at my list... the first three spots are the spidey clones and spidey (Spiderman, Spidercide, and Kaine), and then it's all X-Characters most the way down to the bottom. There's quite a few other characters I wanted, like Nico and the Exiles that weren't even on the upper half of my list.

Oh, and if Phaed's alright with it, I'm totally up for trading next season (of course there'd be a time frame and a limit, but we'll discuss that when the time comes)

Well, the benefit of last time was that you didn't have to do the full list, just your preferred 30 or so. That really made it easier for me. Now it was mostly: But y'know, I might want to place that one there, just in case I still get him/her. It required a bit more tactical thinking this time. :p

There was also an idea going around that next season we'd shorten it by making it a team tournament. Basically, it'd be done the same way, but you'd take your list and pair up your people in teams of two. So then each match would be 2 on 2. It'd make for a shorter tourney, and a whole different level of debating. It was an idea that we played with for this season, but felt that it was too soon for it.

By the way... for the non-foreigners... HAPPY THANKSGIVING! I plan on being fat by the end of the day :)

I started off pasting the cosmics and the X-Men and then pushing up powerful characters and those I liked and pushing down everyone else. After about 130 characters the rest is all complete pasted lists.

That'd be very interesting.

Was the idea to be able to choose which of your characters gets paired up or would that be decided for you?

You'd be able to decide. That way you'd have to factor in if the people would work well together, if there's something in their past that can be taken advantage of. If they've worked together or not. If a villain could work well with a hero, etc. It could be too difficult, or not.

That'd be pretty awesome. I remember discussing that. It would be cool for next season.

Well, I'm off to the shower and then to go get fat. Talk to you guys tonight (or when I'm out of the shower.. whichever)

I love this idea. Whatever is decided, I think something different would be good to motivate people to come back next time. Using the DC universe, or a Marvel/DC combo or even allowing trading next time would shake things up a lot.

ETA see you later.

Sounds like the DTL to me

It'd come close, but the tagteam thing would make it less like the DTL.

I don't know what the DTL is :(

The Dream Team League. It was started by Johnny Blaze.

It was basically 5 man teams composed of a stock of 10 characters total for each participant that would do battle against each other.

The team would be composed of both Marvel and DC charcaters and would be ranked as Uber, Middle and regulars.

What issues? Man-Thing is one of my faves but I only have the 90s mini and the movie prelude that was ooc and far better then that movie.

Well, if you win a prize, I'll send you my extras. It will be all of Vol. 2 but the two issues I am getting new from the auction.

Awesome, Mach IV actually won. I'm sorry POWdER wasn't able to debate, but it was understandable considering the situation.

to be honest when I was doing my list I looked to characters that either had some weird power that was kind of vague and could be exploited (vengence's resistance to everything but magic saw me knock out a character who would normally dominate in a contest like this),characters that I figured other people would overlook (forge/x-23/agatha/enchantress/beta-ray bill), and ridiculously powerful characters (wiccan/cable/morlun/deathloc).

I think one of the key things though is that a lot of my characters are quite well known and as a result you don't have to debate them quite as hard, people are more likely to vote for a character they know than one they've never heard of. This is why I think I had such a hard debate with radioactive man. He's off the charts powerful but he's not a "name" character so convincing people that he is actually as powerful as he is is half the battle (somebody call the grammar police on that last sentence...:o)

Hippy - did you actually "choose" (ie intentionally place high up on your 512 list) all the characters you ended up with 'cause some of those guys you mentioned are right near the bottom of your 32 list. If so your tactics must have been very good, certainly a lot better than mine.

I think all of my characters were in my top 80 (except for demogoblin) I just got lucky and picked characters other people weren't going for I guess. Couldn't believe it when I got forge/cable/wiccan/beta-ray though. Talk about a dream come true! :)
