Official Contest of Marvels II Discussion Thread

you know I find it Ironic that I got Wolverine the most flouted character out there, and I have to put him up against a herald of Galactus the first round I have him.

That's what we 'round here call "Zoken-luck."

That does seem to be a pattern, and for the record HYBRID WAS ROBBED!

I am happy about that, and I know that my pissing and moaning won't change anything... it just helps me feel better.

Scream survives another round! ZORT!

Ok, someone explain something to me. I'm kind of on a slight diet. Since I sit around all day at this computer at work, I don't get the best exercise. So, I decided to quit going to McDonald's or other fast food places during the week, eat less, and quit on desert items, like Candy Bars and cake. (I'm not overweight too much...just noticed I was starting to get a belly on me.) So, since I see chocolate and get hungry, I went to Costco and got a tub of Red Vines for work. They are supposedly "Fat Free." What does that mean diet-wise? Can I eat a few everyday and figure it would take care of my sweet-craving, or do they pretty much go straight to the gut, also?
I could bore you and go into depth here but the essence of what I would say is to ignore labels like "fat-free". Arsenic and filtered dog**** could be labelled as fat free but they would have no nutritional value and are plenty bad for you. :yay: You can drink 20 litres of pepsi without taking in any fat or several kilos of oven grease without taking in too many bad sugars. Anything can be labelled as being free of one particular "bad" ingredient while the negatives are hidden elsewhere.

These red vines are unlikely to contribute anything positive to your diet but will have negatives in other forms such as sugars instead of preferable complex carbohydrates as an energy source. As long as you have self control and limit yourself (and can satisfy your craving with only a small amount per day) it won't make that much difference. Just don't let the label influence your decision.

So any chance we can start the battles early this week instead of on Thursday night.

It would be great if you started them Wednesday night for me given that it will be Thursday morning when I see them.

Hey I just found out (from a friend) that the Templates Gideon uses for his power are actually people in a comatosed state. I demand a rematch!!!

I've never heard of this before. I know in the New Warriors issues he was taking their powers, and they weren't on a comatosed state.

And on an unrelated note: I just put up this big picture of Carrie Underwood in our living room with hearts around it and a note saying "Jew's Next Wife, Carrie Hobbit" (Substitute "Jew" for my first name, and "Hobbit" for my last).

I'm going to see how long it takes for my wife to notice :)

Awww...nothing says I love you right before Valentine's Day than trying to rile your wife with pictures of Carrie Underwood.

And, yeah, I have never heard about templates from comotose people before. I looked at some Gideon appearances, and didn't see anything about those people being comotose. There won't be a rematch, obviously...but, ask him where the information comes from. I'd like to find proof of it in case it get's brought up in Round 2.

Actually, I think there might be a four-day holiday for my kids this weekend. Isn't President's Day coming up? So, since I'll have my daughter at work on Thursday - Monday, possibly, Wednesday might just be my best chance to get brackets up. Sure, I'll post them a day early. I'm thinking the debates will be heating up quite a bit.

Also, JH, make sure you PM Primemover and let him know what's up with his new roster.

Finally, I finally bought some lightbulbs and were able to replace the comic room's burnt out lightbulb. So, I'm hoping to get the comics picked out and sent by Friday of this week to those who should be expecting them. They are going all over the world!!!!

Some schools do a four day weekend. The schools in my are are doing two three day weekends. Better check your area.

I'm gonna be pretty pissed if he was telling the truth. I'm not gonna see him till next week I'll ask him about it.

Since we had so many snow days (and power outage days) this season, the school has cancelled a few "student days," including this Friday. So, it's a three-day weekend, Sat.-Mon.. I'll still post the brackets Wednesday. That way, when I'm busy at work with my daughter on her Thursday off from preschool, they'll be up and ready.

I'm in computer class right now and we just got an announcement for a 12 pm dimssal :D. Hopefully my car isn't snowed in :(

LOCATION: MUIR ISLAND

Muir Island is a small, fictional island off of the northern coast of Scotland in the Marvel Comic Universe. It plays a prominent role in the X-Men comics and its related series.

History

Muir Island's significance stems from the fact that it is the home of Earth's largest and most comprehensive mutant research complex, located to the north of Scotland, founded by Dr. Moira MacTaggert. Originally, she created the facility to help her son, Kevin (a.k.a. Proteus), an extremely powerful and destructive mutant.
Muir Island's facility holds a wealth of knowledge on various mutants, their abilities, and other mutant-related issues and concerns (such as the Legacy Virus). It was also once the home base of the X-Men spin-off superhero team Excalibur.
The island has sometimes been used to imprison mutants for various reasons. Most notably, Spoor and Magneto.
The staff has included, at times, Rahne Sinclaire AKA Wolfsbane, Rory Campbell, Jamie Madrox and, seen in various comics, multiple un-named scientists.
The island and its research center have come under attack by many villains, including Magneto, the Acolytes, the Shadow King, Galactus, Phalanx, Black Air, The Mutant Liberation Front, Spiral, Legacy, Bastion and Proteus. The island's facilities were destroyed during the Muir Island Saga. Although rebuilt, the Muir Island Genetic Research Center was destroyed again in an attack byMystique and Sabretooth.

(THE LOCATION IS SET RIGHT BEFORE THE MUIR ISLAND SAGA.)

Question:
Do the Annihilation minis count as part of Annihilation and therefore not a part of this tourney, or are they seperate and their storyline's can be used?

They are considered a part of Annihilation as they all take place during that same story, thus, not usable here. The only exception is the Drax mini, which was a completely separate story, even though it led into the Prologue of Annihilation. The only characters in this tourney that were in the Drax mini were Drax and Paibok the Power Skrull... all other characters known in Annihilation are actually pre-Annihilation.

I got a great collection on ebay yesterday. (At least, I hope so. It sounds like most of the comics will be in pretty good condition.) 97 issues of Master of Kung Fu. After it arrives, I'll only be missing 9 issues to have a complete run. It cost me 78.00, plus about 20.00 for shipping; but, that's a pretty good deal for getting that collection, IMO. I looove ebay!!!

Also, just got back from Ghost Rider. I thought it was rather disappointing. The entire movie was just too cheesy, the script really not that good, and the bad guys seemed to be eliminated waaay too easy. It might be the biggest disappointment in a Marvel movie that I've seen in a theater yet. Let me know what you guys thought of it.

I saw it this morning and I thought it was kind of dissapointing, but okay. I thought som eof the effects were pretty good, but the story was blah. Like you, I wasn't a huge fan of the villains, but I did really like Blackheart's final transformation at the end. I agree that there was too much cheese, as it semeed to eat away at all the good serious parts of the movie. Overall, I give it a 6/10 which is about what I was expecting from it.

It's a shame, because MSJ does seem like a really great guy, but I am kind of concerned about him doing Preacher, since it is probably my most loved comic of all time. If what he says is true, and it will be basically a page-by-page translation of it, then I think it will still be okay. If it is more of a loose adaptation (like most comic movies) then I would probably prefer somebody else do it.

Man where's DarkHellRider, I'm gonna need to debate the hell outta this match and he has a tenedeny to start debating Monday.
