Official Contest of Marvels II Discussion Thread

Hey JH. My son and I rented a movie yesterday called Face The Giants. It's billed as a football movie, and my boy and I watch all these football movies that come out. But, you learn quickly that it's just as much about God and the impact he has in our lives, as it even relates to football. I really recommend seeing it. Out of many Christian movies I've seen, this is one of the best. Sure, the acting isn't anything Oscar calibur; but, it feels real, and there are a couple parts of the movie where you'll be fighting back the tears.

Cool, thanks for the recommendation. I love the topics, but typically Christian movies suck. Good to hear of a good one out there. I'll try to find it at the video store

And it's funny that the CoM is opening up conversation at my work place. There's two guys there who are into comic books. One of the guys was telling me how Havoc is his favorate character. I mentioned my match against him this week with Kaine and we got into a debate over who would win. I then mentioned some other matches I've had and we debated them. It was a lot of fun. I told him what site this is and he says he's been on it before just reading movie news but he might sign up next season and jump in. He's very knowledgable and has some good insight so I'm hoping he follows through.

For the record, this was not help in his debate, it was just knowledge of the character that the sites listed do not mention, which is the same thing as posting web sites.

You might want to include this rule on the first page of this thread, as there is no mention that another player cannot aid another with intel on a character not normally know about without them specifically asking for it.

Primemover, I need to ask you to remove your post above mine. You cannot help another debator with their debates, unless they ask and it's just an explanation of a certain power they are unsure of. I understand you don't totally know the rules yet; but, everyone must handle their characters on their own. (One other thing that's allowed is if there is lack on information on a character and you can link a site to help both parties out when requested.)

I took my son to Bridge To Teribithia yesterday. It was an absolutely packed house, and I must say it's the most falsely advertised movie I've ever seen. I was expecting a cheap LOTR/Narnia-type movie, as they showed in the preview. Luckily, I saw a review of the movie on Ebert & Roper, and they said don't expect what you saw in the preview; so, I was prepared. The fantasy sequences you see in the preview are probably only 10 minutes of the entire movie.

Now, it's a really, really good movie; but, it has an ending you won't be expecting. I'm thinking some families wouldn't have brought their kids if they knew what was coming; and, I did see one family that had to leave. If you have young kids, expect to possibly have a lengthy discussion with them after the movies over. Besides that, I recommend this movie to all of you on the Hype. This is just a well-made movie that will have you fighting back the tears.

For those interested, here is the upcoming list of remaining locations. A couple might be iffy; if they are too general, I'll drop them. I don't have enough locations to make it through the season, though. Any suggestions for the remaining rounds would be appreciated. We want to try to stay away from duplicating a previous location.

Plus, what about the final location for the final battle? Any suggestions??? Do we want to do a vote and vote for our favorite location, having it be the final one? (Since we still won't have an indication of who the final two will be, we can do a vote after Round 2; that way, nobody will know if they are going to have an advantage with a certain location over another.)

Round 2, Week 1 Muir Island
Round 2, Week 2 Negative Zone
Round 2, Week 3 Asgard
Round 2, Week 4 Genosha (After destruction)
Round 2, Week 5 Wakanda
Round 2, Week 6 The Raft
Round 2, Week 7 The Vault
Round 2, Week 8 Madripoor
Round 3, Week 1 Danger Room
Round 3, Week 2 Alcatraz
Round 3, Week 3 Limbo
Round 3, Week 4 Helicarrier
Round 4, Week 1 N-Zone - Not sure on this one. Might need more specifics
Round 4, Week 2 X-Mansion
Round 5, Week 1 Age Of Apocalpse - Not sure on this one. Might need more specifics
Round 6, Week 1 Savage Land

I'm seeing we are missing 3 locations. I think we end up having 9 rounds.

I noticed a little error in the brackets. It notes Random vs Mandarin (both Wieg's characters), even though Hisako beat Random pretty conclusively with a 12-4. Find your own post, Phaed, here.

Phaed was just correcting a blatant error since Random should never have lost to Hisako the second time.

The voters have voted, my friend. I just took that win for the lucky break it was.

hey, wasn't Hippy or someonE supposed to make gag awards after the first round? What ever happened with that?

Thanks. I made another error; and, previously I asked everyone to make sure the brackets were correct with their characters. Human error and all, I notice every once in a great while, figure gets put down wrong.

Wow, what is so different about it? I will admit that I have never read the book. My fiance has and she said she enjoyed it. We may go and see it eventually.:xmen:

Thanks for deleting, Prime. There is a brief mention in the very first post on this thread, BTW:

Only those who own characters may debate. (No help can be given by other people, in or out of the contest.) If a person has a question about your character or debate that seems pertinent, they can ask it. (i.e. If you mention a weapon or power your character is going to use, someone can question whether it's in that character's ability to have it.)

It probably could be expanded on more in that opening post; but, I believe we did expand on it after characters were given out and even after the contest began. It's just rare someone gets to join after the contest began; so, some things we've gone over doesn't necessarily get re-explained.

The reason why we don't give information about characters to other participants is because part of the purpose of this contest is to reward those who take the time to investigate the characters and really invest their time in the contest. (Many times, I'll find a way an opponent might beat me with the research I do, and all I can hope is that they don't find out the piece of information I did.) Like I said, though, if the person asks for an explanation of a certain power...or, if we cannot find any real information on a character, you can help out when asked.

Again, thanks for taking care of the post. I know everyone understands that there might be a few rules you might not realize we have.

My bad, I misinterpreted those rules to only cover the debates in the debate thread and not giving knowledge about a character in the discussion thread.

I will gladly keep my trap shut and my knowledge to myself from now on.

I finally had a chance to respond to your post. Once a kid learns to love the computer, you can't get them off. Anyway, I'll try to keep spoilers to an extreme minimum; because, it's really a movie you should see and experience before word gets out. In fact, I knew what was going to happen in the end, not the particulars, though; and, I heard a couple people talking about it in the lobby of the theater while I was getting my son a soda. Luckily, they kept the particulars quiet also.

The movie is about dealing with peers and being a kid who's just about to enter your teens. You have the usual issues that you'd expect with bullies and making friends. But, the fantasy aspects of the movie are how the two main characters forget about their problems by creating a fantasy world in the woods they play in. (The thing is that the fantasy usually corresponds with events in real life. After all, what is a fantasy story than just usual looking bullies.) This movie covers many things that effect kids...although, it's more about life as a kid when I was a kid. Kids today would have a few more challenges today than when the author of this book has to deal with things as a kid. You don't see them having to deal with drugs, weapons, or current problems. The same problems the "Little House on the Prairie" kids dealt with are shown in this movie, if you get my meaning.

Finally, I have to say I laughed my butt off with Heroes tonight when they showed the bus driver. I won't give it away to those who might not have watched it yet. Great cameo appearance!!! And, I was loving all the cliffhangers with each episode. It reminds me when I'd watch the old serial films that used to play on channel 9 when I was a kid before a main feature movie. The program was called "Evening at the Bijou" I think. They would structure the program just like in the old days, with news reels, a serial (like Batman), and 2 movies, I believe.

Again, it's not a problem, and I totally understand. Just so you know about when voting starts, it's suppose to be when I get to work around 8:00 AM Pacific Standard Time. But, we usually have last minute debates; so, I generally hold out until 12:00 pm PST. Once I put up "Voting May Begin," a person cannot do anymore debates with their match. Even when they vote, they cannot put in a last minute reason for voting for their character. But, at that point, you can make a sentence or two statement about why you voted for other matches if you want. (JH and I just felt like anymore statements about a participants own match during the voting was going against the rule in a slight way; so, we ammended that rule after the contest started.)

Yeah, I read over it the first time I looked throught he brackets. No big.

I actually went through all of my characters to see in which location they'd be fighting, and I never seem to get homefield advantage:
Black Panther (Asgard) :(
Fandral (The Raft) :(
Thor (Wakanda) :(
Reaper (Wakanda) :( (facing STORM!!!)

Can't I switch Panther and Thor?

Same here. I completely forgot he was going to be in the episode. So I was flying high after the scene. And the big ending twist, I honestly didn't see that coming. And I had been expecting something big for the whole episode. But it just never occurred to me with that character. :wow:

That really sucks.....I may have Vidar in weak 3 at least but unfortunately I will not have Baldur which is virtually invulnerable there.

We should've had the blue side of the moon again for my Moon Knight match, I would completely obliterate phton if that was the case. I may still be able to though. :)
